Chapter 392: Chapter 392 Liam Sunshine

After the bright lights and endless applause, the night outside felt almost too quiet. Lilith’s heels clicked softly against the marble as she walked out of the grand hall, her eyelids heavy from a whole week of sleepless nights and the storm of the event. A cold breeze brushed past, but she didn’t shiver. She could feel him waiting.

The luxurious, dark car was parked at the entrance, its surface reflecting the soft golden lights. The moment she stepped out, Alexander stepped forward too, tall and sharp in his black suit, his eyes catching hers in the shadows like they always did.

Without a word, he opened the door for her. She lowered herself into the plush back seat, sighing as the warmth of the car wrapped around her like a blanket.

Alexander slipped into the driver’s seat, his profile sharp against the city lights that passed them by like a moving dream. His hand rested on the wheel, his other fingers tapping lightly–the only sign he was not as calm as he looked.

"You were amazing tonight," he said at last, his voice deeper, softer than the dark leather around them.

Lilith leaned her head back and looked at him through half-lidded eyes. A small, real smile tugged at her lips, the kind only he ever got to see. "Thanks to you," she murmured, her voice almost drowned by the hum of the engine.

But then she frowned a little, glancing out the tinted window. The familiar route to her home was nowhere in sight. The city lights gave way to quieter streets, darker roads lined with tall trees.

She didn’t ask. She never needed to. She just turned back to him, her eyes curious but calm.

Alexander noticed. He glanced at her with the ghost of a smile, one hand slipping off the wheel just long enough to rest warm and steady on her thigh. His touch was grounding and yet it made her heart jump all the same.

"You’re tired," he said, voice rich like velvet, threading into her bones. "You can sleep now."

Lilith scoffed lightly, yawning despite herself. "I can sleep at home."

A low chuckle rumbled in his chest. "No. Not tonight." His eyes stayed on the road but his thumb brushed slow circles against her leg, his touch almost possessive yet so careful. "We’re heading to my private estate."

She wanted to argue — some small, stubborn part of her always did but her eyelids were already growing heavy. He noticed that too. Alexander leaned over just enough to adjust her seat, pressing a hidden button until it reclined nearly flat.

"There," he murmured. "Take the blanket. There’s a pillow too. Sleep."

Lilith looked at him, at the tiny crease at the corner of his eye, at the way he softened only for her. "You’re driving. That’s not fair," she mumbled, her voice dissolving into a tired laugh as she grabbed the blanket from the side.

He only smirked, eyes flicking to her once more in the dim light. "Sleep, Lilith."

She gave in, curling her body slightly as she tugged the soft blanket around her shoulders. The warmth of the car mixed with the familiar scent that clung to the leather seats that subtle trace of him that always made her chest feel full.

"What are you doing here, Liam?" Hannah asked, trying to keep her voice light even though she could feel her heart thumping. She hadn’t expected him...not at this hour, not at her doorstep looking this tired but still so unfairly handsome under the porch light.

Liam leaned against the doorframe, that small crooked grin tugging at his lips. "Can’t I be here?" he teased back, his eyes softening a little when they met hers.

Hannah snorted, folding her arms. "Which boss shows up at an employee’s house at midnight, huh? You want my neighbours to think we’re having an affair?"

Liam just rolled his eyes, the corner of his mouth twitching as if he almost wanted to laugh. He stepped inside when she moved out of the way, carrying a breath of cold night air into her small but cozy living room.

"So?" Hannah asked, closing the door behind him. She watched him drop onto her old couch like the world had been sitting on his shoulders all day. "What happened this time?"

Liam rubbed his hand over his face, letting out a breath that sounded like it carried the weight of every problem in the world. "Company mess, board mess... and that Kai bastard," he muttered, his voice low and rough.

Hannah perched on the arm of the couch, her knee brushing his shoulder. "Kai? You mean Sienna’s brother?" she asked quietly.

"Yeah," Liam grumbled. He let his head fall back against the sofa, eyes tracing the cracks in her ceiling. "He’s getting bold. Trying to buy out smaller companies. I heard he’s teaming up with Brook now too — probably planning to bring down Carter."

In his mind, Liam’s thoughts drifted. After what Sienna did... I really didn’t think there was any loyalty left in this damn world. That sting, that betrayal, it still crawled up his throat sometimes when he least expected it. But then his eyes fell on Hannah....

She saw the exhaustion in his eyes. Without saying anything, she slipped off the armrest and stood. "Stay here," she said softly, her tone leaving no room for him to argue.

Liam watched her disappear into the kitchen, the clink of plates and the soft whoosh of the microwave filling the silence. He leaned forward, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor. She never left. Not even when I was unbearable. That thought made something tight in his chest ease just a bit.

When Hannah came back, she was holding a bowl of warm soup, steam curling into the air. "Eat this," she scolded lightly, placing it on the coffee table. "Before you start plotting how to kill billionaires in your head."

He barked out a tired laugh, the corner of his mouth tugging up. He looked at her–her messy hair, the soft worry in her eyes, the warmth that always seemed to wrap around him when he stepped into her space.
