Devilish secretary -
Chapter 367 Broken trust
Chapter 367: Chapter 367 Broken trust
Ana pursed her lips, not satisfied with the answer. "She’s still just a secretary. An actress now, yes, but from an unknown family. And our son... he is—"
"Our son is complicated," Alan cut in smoothly. "And complicated men don’t need a princess. Sometimes, they need someone who can fight back."
Ana looked at him in silence.
Alan returned to his laptop, his tone neutral but final. "Watch her closely. She may not have status but she has presence. And in our world... that’s what people remember."
Ana let out a quiet breath, trying to mask her irritation behind a calm smile. She picked up her purse from the sofa armrest and adjusted her pearl earrings in the phone camera before turning back toward Alan, who was once again lost in his work.
"I’m going for shopping," she said casually, her voice laced with subtle meaning. "There’s a boutique in the southern district I’ve been meaning to visit for weeks."
Alan didn’t look up. "Take one of the drivers," he replied without thinking.
"I’ll drive myself today," Ana said, already walking toward the door. "Fresh air might clear my head."
Without waiting for a reply, she walked out of the room and down the marble-floored corridor, her heels tapping sharply with each step. The moment she stepped out into the sunlit driveway, her calm façade cracked a little. She wasn’t just going shopping.
She opened the driver-side door of her sleek black car, slid in, and started the engine with one press. The quiet purr of the engine filled the silence as she backed out from the Carter estate and steered onto the wide, empty road.
But Ana didn’t turn toward the mall.
Instead, she took a long road leading to the city outskirts—past the tall buildings, down the winding countryside lanes bordered with wild grass and tall trees. The scenery changed quickly. From concrete towers to nature’s calm embrace.
Her destination was unusual.
A large private estate built away from the public eye, where no one ventured without invitation. It was surrounded by dense woods, and yet people still found their way here because the man who lived here was not ordinary.
He had built a temple on his land, and though it wasn’t a public shrine, locals from nearby villages and even those from the city sometimes came to pray in secret. Rumors said he wasn’t just a powerful businessman but someone chosen, someone divine.
She drove in silence, her hands steady on the steering wheel. Her mind was clouded with thoughts of Lilith, of Sebastian, of the growing power struggle within the Carter name. If that girl truly became more than just a face on a screen... if she climbed too high...
Then Ana needed to understand what she was dealing with.
As she approached the edge of the estate, the trees parted, revealing a tall iron gate. Beyond it, the carved stone steps of the private temple stood in solemn silence, as if waiting.
Ana slowly brought the car to a stop.
After parking her car near the outer gravel path, Ana stepped out slowly. The wind was gentle here, cooler than in the city, and the air carried the earthy scent of the woods that surrounded the sacred grounds. Her heels crunched softly against the ground as she made her way past the temple, ignoring the arched steps entirely.
She wasn’t here to pray.
Her destination was further behind the shrine—a secluded wooden hall surrounded by ancient trees, built on a raised platform with wide windows and a sloped roof, where the master often meditated. It was a peaceful area, cut off from the noise of the world, and very few people were allowed to enter without permission.
She had come here a few times in the past. The master always welcomed her with warmth and offered guidance—kind, spiritual, and wise words that gave her a sense of power. Or so she had believed.
Today, however, her steps were careful and light. She didn’t want anyone to know she was here. Her instincts told her not to announce her arrival.
She moved along the stone path quietly, her hand trailing against the wooden railing, listening for sounds. There were no temple guards nearby, no visitors praying with folded hands, no wind chimes or birdsong—just silence.
Until she heard voices.
They were faint, but clear enough.
Male voices. From inside the meditation chamber.
Ana stopped in her tracks and leaned slightly closer to the half-open wooden door, her breath stilling.
"Master, Mr. Blake gave us fifty million to fool Mrs. Carter," came the first voice, laced with amusement. "And Mr. Brook also gave us ten million... hahah, looks like both of them have joined hands to destroy the Carter family!"
Another voice replied. One that sent a shock through Ana’s bones. She recognized it immediately.
The master’s voice.
"Hmm, yes... as long as the original master doesn’t find out what we’ve done, it’s fine."
Ana’s heart dropped.
Her mouth parted in disbelief, but no sound came out.
Her hands trembled at her sides, and for a long moment, her feet were glued to the ground. She felt something in her chest crumble—trust, maybe. Or the illusion of it.
The same master who spoke gently to her... who told her to let go of hate and seek light... was now sitting inside that quiet room, taking bribes from other to ruin her family.
Her jaw clenched tightly, rage slowly bubbling inside her, but she didn’t speak.
With careful, silent steps, she turned away from the door and walked back the way she came, her expression blank but her mind spinning.
The silence behind her remained.
Her heels faltered as she reached her car. With a sharp inhale, she reached into her handbag with stiff fingers and unlocked the door. The soft click sounded too loud in the silence.
She slipped into the driver’s seat slowly, her legs moving on instinct. As she pulled the door shut, a heavy stillness wrapped around her like a cold blanket. She placed both hands on the steering wheel, but for a moment, she didn’t move. She just sat there.
Staring ahead.
Processing.
That same master who told her Lilith wasn’t right for her son... had taken money to ruin their family.
