Chapter 358 - 358: The Barest Minimum.

According to the reports of the mark on his arm, the shell is made of metal. It is a thick, highly durable metal that can heal itself. But the metal is not as hard as diamond, so he is sure that he can cut it.

The reason why someone as weak as him can breach the shell while the librarian and wayfarer can't is because each wayfarer has a defensive magnetic field around them that protects them from the winds of the planet and from each other's magnetic control.

So they can't do much against each other. As long as a wayfarer is alive, unless it is very weak, it will be able to resist another city with the help of its librarian.

As for breaking through the shell, he is not the only one in the squad who can do it. In fact, Command gave them a powerful tool to breach the shells of wayfarers. That powerful tool is acid.

Acid is a previously unknown thing in this world. But it is an old weapon that humans learned to harness a long time ago. They are not going to use bombs because the magnetic field of the Wayfarer will interfere with it as long as any part of it is metallic.

He looked at the wall and said, "We don't need bombs anywhere. Just one cup of highly concentrated acid, and we will eat our way through the shell."

Using acid is cheaper than using bombs. The acid can also be placed in a glass container on top of a missile and launched at the target.

He shook his head and said, "This mission is both difficult and easy. It all depends on what we encounter. But no matter what we encounter, Command will gain information from us."

"If this mission goes on for long enough or if we are lucky, we might encounter the primordial vampire, which will put an end to this mission. Anyway, Command will always win."

From the little he can tell, Command is already collecting data about both the Kunuts and the Vampires. It is obvious that if this mission to help the Kunuts kill other Kunuts goes well, when it is time for the Yggdrasil army to kill the Kunuts, it will be very easy to do so.

Not only is the mission carrying the Yggdrasil soldiers around the planet in search of the primordial vampire, but it has also brought them to the core of many wayfarers.

So at the very least, Command has gained a lot of information about the Kunuts. This much will be made clear when the soldiers deal very well with the Kunuts.

He doesn't think he is more intelligent than the librarian. So if he is right and he can already tell that Command already has enough information about the weakness of the Kunuts, the librarians must at least suspect as much.

He thought to himself, "Even if they don't, because they are a peaceful people, they should suspect something soon if this mission goes very well. If the librarians are as smart as they are said to be, then they too must be collecting data about us."

He wasn't concerned, though. It simply wasn't his place to be concerned about how to make an expedition successful. That is Command's job. His job is to listen to orders.

He has made up his mind to do his job and only his job. He doesn't plan to do more than that or show off his numerous abilities.

He especially doesn't want to show off his ability to absorb life force from a distance. It was what caused him to be targeted by a demigod last time and also what caused a lot of soldiers to have a problem with him.

That ability was so powerful that it caused both his enemies and fellow soldiers to hate him. Now that it can ignore the defense of a wayfarer and injure it past its shell, Life Siphon is bound to cause the Kunuts to take note of him and maybe target him.

His plan is to lay low and do the barest minimum as the leader and earn his merit points. If everything goes his way, there shouldn't be a problem doing just that.

After his meeting with the librarian, the mission started earnestly. The librarian joined with the wayfarer mentally, which caused its speed and power to increase.

Until it finds something, the soldiers were to hold on within the wayfarer doing nothing. It was an unpleasant experience.

Staying within a wayfarer meant that they were protected from the cold and the noise outside. But they weren't saved from the darkness.

The kunuts have eyes that can see in low-light conditions, so they were fine. They tried to accommodate the human's need for light, but the best they could provide were glowing stones.

Staying in the humid and dark bowels of a giant beast turned out not to be a pleasant experience for the soldiers. It didn't help that they were surrounded by potentially hostile entities. It put the soldiers on edge.

Kelvin tried to encourage them. He said, "According to the librarian, he knew somewhere that an infested wayfarer should be. We are going there right now, and it should take two weeks. We just have to wait for that amount of time, and we will have a fight on our hands."

No matter what he could have said to make them feel better, it probably wouldn't have worked as well as telling them exactly how long they had to endure the unpleasant situation.

Now that they knew that all they had to do was wait for two weeks, they didn't break down easily. They had something to look forward to. So the problem was solved temporarily.

Kelvin looked at the soldiers trying all sorts of things to preoccupy himself and said, "Things might go badly if we don't find what we are looking for in two weeks. These people are not soldiers at all. They are at most fighters. They don't have the discipline needed to be good soldiers."
