Descent of the Demon Master -
Chapter 1101. Confrontation (1)
Chapter 1101. Confrontation (1)
Looking into those cold yet arrogant eyes helped Han Se-Yeon realize something. And that was...
...This woman, Choi Yeon-Ha, was not a good person.
No, it was worse than that. The icy coldness in those eyes was infused with vindictiveness. Han Se-Yeon had no talent for evaluating a person's character based on their outer appearance, yet Choi Yeon-Ha's eyes were still icy enough to give her deathly chills. In other words...
Choi Yeon-Ha wasn't even trying to hide her hostility toward Han Se-Yeon!
Han Se-Yeon reflexively swallowed her saliva. Confronting Choi Yeon-Ha in a confined space with no one else around was incredibly pressuring. Those who hadn't experienced it would never imagine how intense it could be.
Han Se-Yeon subtly bit her lips.
‘So what? You might be famous, but that means nothing to me!'
She forced her unwilling lips to part.
“You’re a lot different from what I imagined.”
“Oh, really?” Choi Yeon-Ha spoke, her voice much gentler than what her expression might suggest. “In what way?”
“If you really want to know...” Han Se-Yeon didn't back down and stared straight at Choi Yeon-Ha. “You're shamefully petty, I guess?”
Choi Yeon-Ha grinned as if she had found something quite funny. “You saw right through me.”
“You aren’t going to deny it?”
“Why would I?”
With Choi Yeon-Ha counterattacking this way, it was Han Se-Yeon who ran out of things to say first.
After hesitating for a brief second or two, Han Se-Yeon put some strength into her midriff to stand taller and resume her attack.
“I didn’t think you’d do it.”
Choi Yeon-Ha cocked an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“You’re supposed to be a top star, after all.”
“Well, you saying that makes it more embarrassing for me to deny it.”
How shamelessly brazen!
Han Se-Yeon worked hard to suppress this sense of irritation and anger welling up in her chest. Losing her temper now would only make her the idiot in this exchange.
“I really did not expect someone supposedly as successful as you to be so petty toward a nobody like me.”
“Ah, so that’s what you thought...” Choi Yeon-Ha theatrically nodded away. As if she was a kindergarten teacher comforting a little child! “But, that’s odd. I don’t think I have done anything in particular, though? Why would you feel that way, I wonder?”
“Do you? I heard you were a good actress. But I guess that was an exaggeration.”
“Mm... If you feel that way. I guess I should put in more effort from now on in that case. Until I can satisfy your lofty expectation of me, that is.”
Han Se-Yeon started glaring a little just then. She didn’t like any of this.
She didn’t like this woman named Choi Yeon-Ha. And she did not like Choi Yeon-Ha’s relaxed attitude.
Most of all, she did not like how Choi Yeon-Ha was looking down on her as if the victor had been decided already!
And Han Se-Yeon also wanted to kick her own butt for thinking that it wasn’t wrong to view Choi Yeon-Ha as the victor.
“If I was in your shoes,” Han Se-Yeon quietly spoke. “I’d be more relaxed than you.”
That wasn’t true. Choi Yeon-Ha couldn’t be any more relaxed even if she tried. However, that was the only thing Han Se-Yeon could think of saying right now.
“Oh, you think so? That’s unfortunate, since I’m not you,” Choi Yeon-Ha grinned sharply, then cocked her head to the side. “What can I do? Since I’m not you? And I can only do things this way?”
Han Se-Yeon sighed deeply. “You know, I didn’t want to say this, but...”
“Oh, no. It’s fine. You can say anything you want to me. I can handle it.”
“It’s like you’re insecure about yourself. Are you?”
“Sorry?” Choi Yeon-Ha innocently tilted her head. It was as if she had no idea what Han Se-Yeon was talking about.
A meaningful smile spread on Han Se-Yeon’s lips. “I wouldn’t have worried about someone like me had I been in your shoes, you see?”
“Oh, is that so?”
“Yes, it is so,” Han Se-Yeon calmly nodded before driving another nail in. “But you being this petty and small-minded is making me worried, just a little bit. Maybe Jin-Ho’s current girlfriend is insecure with herself?”
“Why do you think that way? Do you think I’m shivering in fear of you snatching him away?”
“A little, yes. Well, I guess I’m overthinking it. A small misunderstanding, isn’t it?”
Choi Yeon-Ha laughed while covering her mouth. However, Han Se-Yeon remained still, her expression stiff, as she silently studied Choi Yeon-Ha’s response.
After laughing for a while, Choi Yeon-Ha abruptly stopped and glared at Han Se-Yeon. The icy coldness in her eyes grew even colder.
“It seems you’re mistaken about something here...”
“And what would that be?”
Choi Yeon-Ha smirked. “I’m not even remotely worried about you snatching Mister Jin-Ho away.”
“Wha—”
“You should know this better than me. Or maybe not? You don’t need me to explain in all the gory details why I’m doing this, now do you?”
Han Se-Yeon clamped her mouth shut.
Choi Yeon-Ha was “right.” Anyone who knew at least a little about her would think that. And it'd be even worse with those who had encountered her in person!
Han Se-Yeon might be holding her ground, but it was through sheer guts alone. Even now, simply standing before the confrontational Choi Yeon-Ha was making her legs tremble weakly.
To someone like Choi Yeon-Ha, things like reasons didn’t matter.
Han Se-Yeon barely managed to ask another question. “Then, why are you doing this?”
“Excuse me, it seems you’re still mistaken about something, so here’s the deal... The one who can’t figure out her situation isn’t me, but you.”
“Really?”
Choi Yeon-Ha smirked again. “Let's say you have a massive gold ingot sitting pretty in your house. But a cat burglar breaks into your house hoping to steal this gold. But it's too big to move, and the burglar is scared of getting caught, so she just loiters around for a bit before running away.”
Han Se-Yeon frowned. “What are you talking about?”
“Are you not going to report it to the cops?”
Han Se-Yeon clamped her mouth shut.
“Stealing isn’t the only crime, you see? Trying to touch the gold without permission is a crime, too. And loitering around with impure intentions is also a crime.” Choi Yeon-Ha growled, her tone suddenly changing. “You thought I wouldn’t act this way?”
She then snorted derisively, her icy glare looking straight into Han Se-Yeon’s eyes.
“You sure like to spout whatever nonsense you can think of, don’t you?”
“I’m sorry?”
Choi Yeon-Ha suddenly took a step toward Han Se-Yeon, causing the latter to almost stumble back reflexively. She stopped herself at the last second by planting her feet down.
“More relaxed? Gimme a goddamn break, okay?”
“...!”
“Listen here. I’m too much of a b*tch to say stuff like, ‘I don’t care, do whatever the hell you want. I’ll win in the end, anyway.’ Okay? You think you’re in some TV drama or something? Sh*t like that doesn’t happen in reality. If something pisses me off, I’m gonna do something about it.”
Han Se-Yeon was too taken aback by Choi Yeon-Ha’s sudden change in attitude to respond properly. Her face grew flushed while her eyelashes trembled out of control.
“How dare you not know your place and loiter around someone else's man? What was that? I'm insecure? Gimme a freaking break. Keep that up, and I might rip out all your hair, okay?”
“Oh, my god...!” Han Se-Yeon's jaw slowly fell. This was the “real” Choi Yeon-Ha?
Actually, she expected this to some extent.
A celebrity appearing on TV and silver screens was just an image, a facade. A celeb famous for being innocent and kind-hearted revealing their true nature after a scandal broke out happened so often that it wasn’t even seen as newsworthy these days.
Choi Yeon-Ha’s rotten personality was such an open secret online that it wasn’t even treated as a baseless rumor anymore. And it was certainly proven beyond reasonable doubt by what Han Se-Yeon had seen so far.
Even so, wasn’t this still too much?
‘How could she do this?’
After all, Choi Yeon-Ha was a public figure, wasn't she? Maybe it was a bit of an exaggeration to call a famous actress a public figure, but the naked truth was that someone as well-known as her needed to be even more cautious than actual public figures.
Scandals might not affect public figures all that much, but for celebrities like Choi Yeon-Ha? Scandals and poor public perception could easily destroy their career beyond salvage!
So, celebrities were usually careful and extra thoughtful with what they said and how they acted in public.
But now...!
Han Se-Yeon thought she was being robbed by a hooligan sister in some dark alleyway. Cold sweat automatically broke out on her back while looking into the terrifying, icy eyes of Choi Yeon-Ha.
“I-is it okay for you to say things like this?”
Choi Yeon-Ha scoffed. “Why wouldn't it be? You can yap on and on about whatever you want, but I gotta watch myself? Why? Sorry, little girl, but this unnie doesn't know how to do that. All kinds of far more impressive people than you tried to put a filter over my mouth for the last ten years, but guess what? They all failed, okay? So how are you gonna make me watch what I say?”
Han Se-Yeon finally understood something. This woman couldn't be reasoned with or talked to like a normal person!
She urgently blurted out, “Does Jin-Ho know about this?”
“Know what?”
“That this is the real you! That your personality is like this!”
Choi Yeon-Ha scoffed again, this time even louder than before. “And here I was, thinking that the only thing unsightly about you was how you act, but no! Even your personality is unsightly, too. Little girl, it looks like people have been treating you like a sheltered princess until now. Since you don't seem to understand how adults operate!”
Han Se-Yeon bit down hard on her lip just then. Although it was not totally clear what Choi Yeon-Ha’s motives were for saying that, at least it sounded somewhat like ‘Looks like you’ve been pretending to be some kinda saint or whatever around other people, but don’t you think you’re out of your depth against me?’ to Han Se-Yeon’s ears.
And that observation had hit the nail on the head.
No matter how accomplished and excellent Han Se-Yeon was right now, she couldn’t rival Choi Yeon-Ha, after all!
Choi Yeon-Ha haughtily asked, “So? If Mister Jin-Ho doesn’t know, are you going to rat me out to him? Is that it?”
“You think I won’t?”
“Go ahead.”
“What?”
Choi Yeon-Ha sneered openly. “I’m telling you to do it. What’s the matter? Chickening out now that I’ve given you my permission?”
“You... You!”
Choi Yeon-Ha looked down on Han Se-Yeon as if the latter was an insignificant insect while crossing her arms before her chest. Then she stood tall and imposingly.
“Gimme a break. You think Mister Jin-Ho doesn't know? Are you sure you were his ex? How come someone claiming to be his ex doesn't know how he operates? Do you honestly think that guy can be fooled?”
Han Se-Yeon was left speechless, unable to argue back. Kang Jin-Ho being unaware of Choi Yeon-Ha’s personality made no sense when she thought about it. After all, facades and falsehoods didn’t work on him.
Choi Yeon-Ha continued her offensive. “Who doesn’t know what his girlfriend is really like? Of course he knows. I have to say, it's pretty uncommon to find morons like you who don’t know about the personalities of their exes.”
“What did you call me?”
“Moron.” Choi Yeon-Ha repeated herself while enunciating each syllable as clearly as possible before starting her next line of attack. “Morons like you are always around, aren’t they? A moron who thinks the world must revolve around them just because they were born with a pretty face. A moron who thinks she’s a queen since everyone’s been humoring her whenever she whined and acted out like a brat.”
“Are you done?!”
“Nope, not even close. So don't ever interrupt me again, little girl.”
Han Se-Yeon flinched at Choi Yeon-Ha’s cold and uncaring rebuke.
“I don't care if you act like a moron or a naive little brat somewhere else. It's not my job to give you life advice, anyway. Actually, no. Just go jump in a lake or something.”
“...”
“But I won't just sit back and let you wag your tail around my man. Hell no. This ain't the problem of you snatching him or not anymore. You looking at Mister Jin-Ho with your unsightly eyes displeases me. You using stupid excuses of being friends to call him out here displeases me, too. You sitting across from him in this place displeases me, and you breathing the same air as him pisses me off!”
“...?!”
How was someone like her even real?!
No, that wasn't quite true. People could and did think this way. In fact, many people would probably be harboring dark thoughts like Choi Yeon-Ha. However, how many sane people in this world would openly voice such thoughts in front of the person in question?
In various meanings of that word... wasn’t this rather remarkable?
“So, I’d prefer if you don't linger around Mister Jin-Ho from now on, okay? People should have ethics, okay? Sure, plenty of people break up but can't get over their relationships so they end up calling their exes in tears and whatnot. However! If you have a modicum of common sense, you shouldn’t do that with your ex after he has already found a new girlfriend. Wouldn’t you agree?”
Choi Yeon-Ha smiled brightly.
“That is why, Miss Han Se-Yeon?”
“...”
“I don’t usually explain myself any further if I don’t have to, but since you’re so dim-witted and can’t take people’s advice, allow me to summarize everything for you. So, listen closely, okay?”
Choi Yeon-Ha’s smile instantly disappeared, replaced by an icy glare cold enough to freeze human souls in an instant.
“If you don’t want to end up as a baldy after I rip your hair out, do not ever drool after my man. Got that? This is your last warning.”
Goosebumps broke out on Han Se-Yeon’s arms.
