Descendants of Gibbous
Chapter 67: Handshake of love

Chapter 67: Handshake of love

The very next morning, Damien, Yong, and Craig woke up to a dispute about who had to use the shower first—at 6AM. The fight escalated until their seniors in the next room—who had stopped them from fighting the night before—came and settled their rage-filled out cursing with fists.

It hadn’t even been 24 hours of him being at Gibforge and he was already seated in Professor Mei-ling’s office with the rest of the boys, ready to accept punishment since she was their Cardinal master. Thankfully, the woman had some heart in her so she didn’t expel them on the spot, but her punishment made the senior students laugh after she announced it and Damien wasn’t sure whether to be scared or happy.

"The handshake of love," she said.

Damien and his roommates were supposed to do it outside the school grounds during their lunch break, something Damien was okay with—as long as he didn’t get expelled that is. But he knew he had to settle whatever animosity was between him, Yong, and Craig soon or they’d end up fighting for real in their shared room and one if not all of them would get expelled.

The only problem with Damien’s peace settlement plan however was how he and the boys took different classes because they weren’t of the same tribe. Apparently, being in the same Cardinal house didn’t mean sharing the same classes. Each student, no matter what house they’d been placed in, had to take classes that matched their tribe, and the classrooms for every tribe were situated in the blocks facing the dorm rooms of the Cardinal that best described the tribe.

Thus, Damien and Eden shared the same classes, Yong had to go all the way to the Draconic dorm wherever they were, and such was the same fate for Ambrose who, unfortunately, had to take the same classes as Vestin and her half-brother since they were of the same tribe.

"Can you believe our luck? Our classes are right in front of our dorm," Eden mumbled to Damien after he’d come from Professor Mei’s office.

Their lessons started at exactly nine and by the time the clock struck nine o’clock and the large bell above the school began ringing to announce the start of lessons, Damien and Eden were already seated in class with other vampire students—thirty in total.

Their teacher was exactly what Damien’s mind thought the first time he heard Gibbous had vampires—a tall, pale, red-eyed woman with black lipstick and pearly white fangs that she didn’t retract despite clearly being powerful enough to do so. The sight of her teeth immediately calmed Damien’s insecurities about not being able to control his fangs yet.

If only that were the case with her personality too but no.

She was gloomy and dark. A bloody vampire to the core. And it didn’t help that she was the pain regression teacher. Damien had to find out the hard way why their requirements had an aloe vera-induced potion. The students had to literally cut open their flesh with their fangs and learn to heal their bodies faster.

Of course, Damien failed right on his first attempt. And embarrassingly enough, he was the only one who did.

Even Eden managed to heal the small wound on her finger after the first attempt despite her being the weakest ranked in the class. As for Damien, he had to visit the nurses’ supplementary office next to Fangpeak’s dorms to receive first aid from her tiny fairy assistants.

Damien wasn’t sure where Gibforge got these little flying humans, but they proved to be of great assistance in most of the school’s operations—although, they were mainly assistants.

Lunch break arrived soon and Damien was the first one in Fangpeak’s dorm to have his food since he had a handshake punishment to do. However, when he arrived outside the school grounds moments later for his punishment by the benches, he was surprised to find it surrounded by a group of students if not the entire school.

"I heard they’re first years."

"Boys! They’re boy’s I tell you!"

"Who’s it? Did you hear their names?"

"Man this memory will haunt them for life, I just know it."

Whispers echoed from the boys and girls surrounding the wooden benches as Damien squeezed past them towards the venue Professor Twiller had asked him, Yong, and Craig to come. To his surprise, he found almost all of Fangpeak’s students standing on the frontlines of the crowd forming a circle around Professor Mei-ling who was standing right next to one of the benches, checking her watch nonstop.

Some of them—the dragon shifters mostly—were even flying and levitating above ground just to get a clearer view of whatever was about to unfold.

Eden was among those on the front lines on the ground. When Damien tried squeezing past her, she grabbed his arm and pulled him to her, giggling excitedly.

"I was beginning to wonder if you’re one of the boring students or if you’re just too slow. I was about to call you," she said raising her oblong. "You were going to miss the first handshake of love in thirty years...or so the rumors say."

Damien’s gut groaned in protest at how excited Eden was. She was never one to get excited over boring things like she said, and he suddenly remembered how their seniors had snickered when Professor Mei suggested her punishment to the boys.

"Oh my goodness it’s Yong Kim!" A girl yelled in the crowd.

"Craig?!" Yet another voice echoed from the crowd as the two boys walked in the Professor’s direction.

"Ha! Serves him right," Eden snickered at the sight before her, making Damien’s gut churn one last time as he slipped his arm away from the princess.

"What are you—" Eden stopped when she noticed Damien’s expression. "Don’t tell me you’re part of this..." she trailed off when Damien simply gave her a weak smile and walked towards his roommates.

"Ah, there you are. I was beginning to think you’d chosen getting expelled over this simple punishment," Professor Mei mumbled at the boy.

"Damien Amaris?!" Alicia’s voice echoed from the crowd followed by a sharp laugh from her direction that sent a wave of uncontrollable giggles throughout the crowd.

"Somebody call the photography club, we can’t miss this historical event unfolding," came Donald’s voice.

Vice Principal Mei-ling wasn’t bothered at all by what the other students were saying. Instead, she focused on the three boys now surrounding her.

"Hold your hands together and form a circle around me," she instructed them.

The boys did just as they were told, a few snickers going off from the crowd after they joined hands forming a circle around the woman in their middle. Damien noticed how Craig and Yong’s faces were now beet red and for the first time in his life, he was grateful for having enough melanin to cover up his blushes.

"Good, now face each other and repeat after me. Since you’re roommates, it’ll have to go like this—I love you, roommate."

Damien choked on nonexistent spit, Craig let go of his roommate’s hands and backed away, cringing, and Yong...well, he just slapped his hands across his face and kneeled on the ground, groaning.

"Be quick, I have lunch to catch up to and if you make me wait any longer I’ll have no choice but to expel you guys," Professor Mei-ling spewed the words out in a sharp tone.

"How about we have a battle?" Craig offered, much to his roommate’s delight.

"Yeah! I’m down for that," Damien backed his idea in an instant.

"Me three," Yong offered and the three of them suddenly rounded the Professor as the crowd went silent, waiting for her thoughts on the matter.

She slightly pondered over it, scanned her eyes around at the boys, then she cleared her throat.
