Chapter 53: Draconic royals

It was Eden.

Damien almost clicked his tongue at her but stopped when he noticed the Vampire Queen appearing from the bank using a private door the boy had thought was meant for staff only.

"We meet again, young Amaris," the Queen addressed him, oblivious to the now frozen Ahara looking at her with that same fan girl twinkle in her eyes.

’Good. A distraction to get her mood in the right conditions.’

"Morning Your Highness," Damien tried bowing but Eden’s grip on his neck pulled him back.

"You’re not going anywhere," she forcibly whispered in his ear, faking a smile at her parents, who pretended not to notice their daughter forcibly gripping Damien’s shoulders.

The Queen and her husband moved on to greeting Ahara and Kingston, leaving the kids to handle themselves alone. Eden let go of Damien’s neck once she was sure he wouldn’t run, crossing her arms by the chest and glaring at him.

"You!"

"What?" Damien snapped at her, rubbing his now sore shoulders.

"You ditched me in the stadium after receiving your acceptance letter."

"Isn’t that what everyone was doing? Leaving the stadium to go back home?"

"You still could have just said your goodbyes before leaving," Eden retorted.

"I thought you had enough company already, I mean, there was that traitor dragon and the moody blonde—"

"You mean Amber?" Eden raised her brow.

"Yes, her. She looked uncomfortable with me being around her either way so..."

"So you decided to ditch me because you were afraid of her?" Eden taunted, her expression serious.

Damien rubbed the back of his neck in frustration. First, it was Ahara, now he had to face a moody Eden too? God forbid a guy try to have a peaceful shopping day.

"I’m sorry, okay. I didn’t think you’d be offended by that," he murmured.

"Well I am, and I think you have to pay for what you did."

That managed to grab Damien’s attention. He stopped rubbing the back of his neck and finally looked at her.

"What?"

"Hmm. You have no idea what I went through looking for you so we could go back home together."

"But you had Amber!"

"She disappeared before I could locate her too damnit! Besides, she doesn’t live in Vespera. The only times I see her are when she and her mother visit the palace for my training, but now that I got enrolled at Gibforge—which was my primary goal—she stopped coming and so did Ambrose," Eden faked a sniff.

"I couldn’t even contact her all this time because that ice-cold father of hers won’t just buy her an oblong damnit!"

Damien opened his mouth to speak, but decided against replying to her and swallowed his words.

"That’s why, you’re going to pay for leaving me with Yong in the stadium. You’re going to be shopping with me for the entire day today."

Damien blinked at her. That was it?

"Okay," he blurted out.

To his surprise, that did manage to settle the fuming princess. Damien couldn’t quite understand her yet but one thing always struck him no matter how he tried to justify her mannerisms—she acted like a child. An adolescent at that too.

Eden clung to his arm after he agreed to shop with her as if to prove his point, pulling him to where her mother and father were still conversing with the now-blushing Ahara. Seeing the Queen had gotten into her head so much that she didn’t notice she was fidgeting with Kingston’s finger whilst talking to her idol, although, she soon realized once Eden snapped her wandering mind back to reality.

"Mother!" The girl yelled, dragging Damien along until they were standing face to face with her parents. "Can I go shopping with them?"

The Queen glanced at her husband who covered half his face with his palm and gave her a suggestive expression. Damien was able to see it either way and he cringed.

’The hell?! Get a room, people!’

Turning back to Eden, the Queen managed to keep her composure and reply to her daughter. "Yes you can, but you’ll have to go with the guards to ensure a safe journey back home okay?"

"As long as they keep a clean distance away from us. I don’t want people thinking I’m useless in the streets," Eden replied.

"Then you got yourself a deal," the Queen turned her attention to Ahara and Kingston. "But it’s only void if these two are okay with it—"

"We are!" Ahara immediately interjected, a little too enthusiastic for someone who was quiet all this time. However, she soon collected herself when all eyes turned to look at her.

"Ahem! I mean, we’d be honored Your Highness," she corrected herself.

"Very well then. We’ll leave our daughter in your hands," Lord Clement finally spoke, snapping his fingers before four guards dressed in black suits and masks appeared behind him. "Make sure you follow the princess stealthily wherever she goes."

The guards nodded and hummed in unification, much to Clement’s delight. He suddenly hugged his wife, pulling her to him and making Damien remember the expression he saw him giving her.

’Ugh, I miss the boy I was a minute ago.’

"Well then, see you later," Clement waved at his daughter and rubbed Damien’s head, before turning on his heel with yet another set of guards.

But before the royal family of Fangpeak could descend the walkway to the designated portal zone, a loud horn suddenly sounded from somewhere within the tear-drop-shaped walls. Everyone who was walking around the bank immediately stopped, and the security guards who were sitting by the entrances stood and lowered their heads.

Damien didn’t know what was happening. He could only look at people’s reactions to at least tell if what was happening was a threat or not. Lord Clement pulled his wife closer to him, his eyes set on the staircase.

"It’s the royal family of the Draconic region," Eden whispered in Damien’s ear after she noticed his confusion. "Probably here to get money for Yong’s school stuff."

Before Damien could digest what the princess told him, they appeared from the stairs—three of them—a man as big as Lord Clement with a fancy fur coat that swept the ground as he walked, a woman dressed in a matching coat whose purple eyes reminded Damien so much of a serpent, and the traitor—Yong Kim, walking between them.

The horn blew one last time, making everyone but Fangpeak’s royal family bow their heads. Damien followed suit, but Eden stopped him from bowing and pulled him back to an upright pose, smugly smiling to his face.

"Don’t worry. You won’t be persecuted because you’re with me. I’m a fucking princess too you know."
