Descendants of Gibbous
Chapter 47: Euphoria

Chapter 47: Euphoria

"D rank vampire for Fangpeak!"

The stadium went mute after the fairy’s announcement. Damien had expected this kind of reaction, after all, everyone must have wanted to hear the Vampire Queen’s daughter’s rank so badly after Vestin’s B-rank aura value shocked them. However, they must’ve expected Eden’s aura to be just as shocking—only to be surprised in all the wrong ways when her aura value reflected a measly 95 on the pillar, with a dark blue color to reflect her D-rank.

Damien anxiously glanced at the princess. The poor girl’s eyes were opened wide, her view fixated directly on her aura value. She stared dumbfounded at the gem, not even blinking or showing any kind of reaction to her poor result.

’ I’ve never seen her looking so shocked,’ Damien thought to himself, only to scratch the thought the next moment when he saw her mouth corners curling up.

’Is she smiling in this situation? What kind of person would smile with this much pressure on them?’

But that wasn’t all that the princess did. She suddenly jumped, drawing everyone’s attention as she turned around mid-jumping.

"D-rank baby!" Eden yelled at the crowd, pumping her fist and punching the air aggressively, her fangs showing from how wide her grin was.

Damien couldn’t help but just blink at her. Either she was faking her happiness out of desperation or she was trying to hype herself up after not receiving any cheers from the crowds—but her antics worked either way.

Someone from the Fangpeak cardinal below the Phoenix statue suddenly squealed, a sound that came out sounding more like a wolf howl. They did it once, then again, and by the third time, the howls turned into three of four before the entire cardinal suddenly joined in the cheering. Even Ambrose whom Damien had thought had already gone suddenly appeared from behind the podium, pulling Eden into a hug and soon leading her to their assigned cardinal.

’Sly little bitch,’ Damien cursed at her back, remembering how she had warned him not to reveal that he knows the royal family.

"And now she’s going to be the prime target for bullies," Yong blubbered, sighing to himself as he watched the two girls walk away.

Aside from the Fangpeak cardinal house, the rest of the stadium was silent—pure discrimination against the weak that didn’t skip Damien’s notice. Not to mention Yong Kim’s sudden remark.

"What do you mean by that?" Damien asked him.

Ignoring the silent stadium as though it was another daily occurrence to her, the fairy continued with the ceremony.

As for the dragon shifter standing in front of Damien, he almost snapped his neck whilst flipping his head to look at Damien with one brow raised, a confused expression set on his face. "You know, I’ve been meaning to ask this for a long time now, but why do you keep asking about everything as if you don’t know how Gibbous works?"

’That’s because I’m still new here, genius.’

"Another D-rank wizard for Fangpeak!"

Damien stopped explaining himself as he raised his head to see who the second lowest-ranked student yet was. Unsurprisingly, it was the plump shy guy who had been in the same team with the innocent girl and her angry wolf guy.

"Another soon-to-be victim," Yong sighed once again.

Damien ignored him this time.

Not because he didn’t want to hear more about what Yong had to say, but because the reality of the situation he was in was now beginning to set. The boy had last checked his aura value at the palace. Ever since then, he had always procrastinated checking it on his oblong, oblivious to the challenge he would face in the future.

Now though, he regretted it all.

The shadow was right, his conviction was half-assed. If he had been a bit more power-hungry back then, he’d have checked his aura value daily—hoping to see improvement, wishing he got powerful soon so he could be able to stand amongst Gibbits his age and not feel inadequate. But he didn’t.

’Because I’m a fucking idiot.’

"Next student please."

Damien snapped himself back to reality and was shocked to see that the line had ended in the short while he was brooding to himself. Now it was just him and Yong standing amidst the stadium.

"See you on the other side," Yong nudged Damien’s arm, already making his way to the podium.

He placed his palm on the pillar and immediately after it reflected his name, the fairy gasped and began running her mouth.

"Yong Kim, everyone! The dragon lord’s son and brother to one of Gibbous’s X-rank heroes, Song Kim!"

Damien froze and blinked furiously.

’This guy’s brother is Song Kim?’

He couldn’t help but squint his eyes at the traitor.

’Hmm, they have the same playful smirk, and mischievous eyes too. But he looks more delicate compared to his muscular brother, just like a princess,’ Damien noted.

To his astonishment, the traitor made the pillar’s color turn a shiny silver that made the entire audience gasp in unified "oohs!"

"Yet another B-rank for the year to grace Fangpeak’s dorms!"

The crowd’s cheers immediately turned to roars—especially the screams coming from Fangpeak’s corner. For a cardinal house that had received two of the weakest students so far, their joy was a bit justified.

Exactly like how it happened with Vestin, fireworks were shot into the sky, but the Fangpeak students were a bit more dramatic. Mixed in with the fireworks were their elemental powers—flowers being the most prominent, and if Damien’s eyes were seeing correctly, he thought he noticed some blood mixed in there too.

’What the fuck?!’

Yong gladly accepted the student’s love, especially the ones coming from the ladies. He waved at them as if he were a celebrity—a grin plastered on his face as he made his way towards the Fangpeak cardinal—but not before mouthing at Damien:

"Your turn."

As if in sync with Yong’s thoughts, the fairy suddenly called out at Damien:

"Please step forward my boy, you’re the last student this year."

A loud thud pulsated in Damien’s chest. Horrible mind-exhausting thoughts immediately started filling his mind as he made his way to the podium. What if he had the lowest rank amongst the students? What if the gem couldn’t read his aura from how weak he was? Hell, what if, like that woman from the portals, the gem detected a corrupt aura in his body?

"Place your palm on the tester, my dear," the tiny fairy commanded and Damien did just that.

Much to his relief, the gem came to life and flickered a white color just like it did with the rest of his peers. He breathed a sigh of relief, watching as the digits above came to life, highlighting that his aura was just good enough for a proper rank test—but this was only the beginning.

’What is it going to be?’ Damien thought to himself, scratching the back of his neck with his free hand.

To his horror, the gem flickered blue, making the boy’s heart almost escape his mouth. However, before he could cry out in embarrassment, the color suddenly turned to silver, making the crowd gasp in shock.

’Yes!’ Damien pumped his fist in joy—but it was short-lived.

The pillar’s color suddenly changed to black again, this time, making the crowd gasp and stand at the same time. Damien furrowed his brows, his face turning pale at the sight before him. He glanced at his aura value, only to see that it was behaving exactly the same as the color codes—a glitch fest frenzy as if it had been hacked.

Blue, gold, bronze, silver, black, clear, white, the pillar kept changing colors nonstop, making Damien groan loudly as the gasps from the crowd intensified with each color change.

’What’s going on? This isn’t how it happened with the others.’

The fairy had noticed too. She slowly looked up at the name reflected on the tower and read:

"Damien Amaris...Amaris..." Her eyes widened, then as if she just realized she mumbled to herself in a low voice:

"He’s the Numen’s son."

Damien watched her glitch for a moment as she slowly turned her head to face him. When she suddenly let out a gasp, he immediately knew things were about to get more complicated.

"Damien Amaris everyone! The former Numen’s son!"

The gasping crowd abruptly stopped, their eyes set on the boy getting his aura value tested. Damien could already tell what was on their minds, but before he could even be depressed, the fairy spoke again.

"Null?" Her voice echoed in the silent stadium.

Damien’s heart constricted. He turned in the direction she was facing—at his aura value—only to see two zeros displayed there.

"Null?" The fairy repeated, her voice echoing in the stadium as she glanced around at the other gems. "And all the cardinal house gems are alight? Surely that can’t be right."

Damien could almost feel his chest crack from how fast his heart was beating. It was violent, some sort of rapture going on inside his body that made him dizzy for a few good minutes.

The tiny fairy noticed the boy’s anxiety and sighed. She didn’t want to do this, but how could she leave him with no proper answer when his peers already had their ranks and aura values?

"Guess I’ll have to do it the old way," she empathized, already in Damien’s face. "Leave the pillar and turn around to face me."

At her order, a united wave of jealous-filled grumbles came from the boys filling the stadium. Damien was too depressed to care about them at the moment, but when the fairy placed her palm on his chest, he soon understood why they were groaning.

"Woah!"

Just like Yong had told him, the fairy’s touch sent a tingly sensation all over his body that made him giddy and hot. It was a euphoric sensation, one unlike nothing he had ever felt before—and it increased the more her hair glowed a shiny pink.

’Is she...growing in size?’

True to Damien’s realization, the fairy was indeed growing in size. And the more she grew, the more Damien felt like she was stripping him naked despite him still wearing his suit.

’Is this what it feels like to be high? Fuck, I shouldn’t have judged the boys, this feels good.’

No sooner did the thought cross Damien’s mind did the fairy began to moan as if in pain.

"I can’t...I can’t see through you," she cried.

"What’s going on?" Damien asked her, now feeling like a pervert all of a sudden.

She was in pain and he was busy enjoying the sensation she was giving him.

"Your aura...It’s..."

Before she could finish, she suddenly collapsed in the boy’s arms, making him grope her breast involuntarily when she fell front first in his hands

’Oh my goodness what have I done?’

The euphoric sensation immediately disappeared the moment the fairy’s hair stopped glowing, and Damien glanced around the stadium, hoping his sister would show up like she always did.

Yes, he had told her he wanted to take risks, but this was too much. It was beyond him and his puny aura.

FWOOSH!

Just then, a cold wind came from behind him, and the next moment the fairy’s weight was lifted off his hands by none other than Principal Twiller himself.

"Good job grabbing her before she fell on the hard ground," he commended the boy just when Vice Principal Mei-Ling suddenly appeared before Damien, her expression stoic and giving nothing away—an ice queen in her entirety.

"Your aura seems to be your natural nemesis doesn’t it?" She asked the boy, looking him directly in the eyes.

Damien stood frozen where he was, surprised to notice something he hadn’t outside the school walls.

’She has clock eyes?’

Before he could see everything clearly though she passed by him in her graceful gait as she made her way to the pillar.

"Now, help me help you determine your rank and the dorms you’ll be staying in, okay young Amaris?"
