Depraved Noble: Forced To Live The Debaucherous Life Of An Evil Noble! -
Chapter 243 - 243: Back Scratcher
Julie's eyes widened, her voice a stunned whisper. "You...massacred forty advanced mages?" She asked, her gaze flicking to the wands, then back to Cassius. "By yourself?"
Wanting to help her master prove his point, Skadi popped up from his embrace, her tail wagging as she stretched, her voice bright and earnest.
"It's true, Captain!" She chirped, her eyes sparkling. "I can smell the blood on those wands now that I can see them. They stink like a battlefield, guts, blood, all of it! He totally tore 'em apart! Master's the strongest" She snuggled back into his chest, her voice a happy murmur.
Hearing this, Aisha's knees wobbled, her voice faint as she staggered to the chair in front of the desk, sinking into it with a dazed look. "I...I need a minute." She muttered, her tail drooping as she rubbed her temples. "This is too much for my brain to process."
Julie, though equally baffled, felt a surge of hope, her voice steady but awed. "Cassius, if this is true, and I'm starting to believe it is this changes everything." She said, stepping closer to the desk. "We wouldn't need three hundred knights. You could handle the cult alone. But..." Her expression turned solemn, her voice soft with concern. "You're a noble. Nobles don't risk themselves in missions like this, they send soldiers. This is dangerous, life, threatening. Are you really willing to put yourself in harm's way?"
"Julie, I'm no psychopath." Cassius's smile softened, his fingers still tracing slow, soothing patterns on Skadi's back. "I don't get my kicks hacking people to bits. If I had my way, I'd stay right here in my mansion, surrounded by my gorgeous wives, my beautiful maids, pampered like a king."
"That's the life, warm beds, soft lips, family all around." He said as he thought about his family that he had built in this world. "Nothing beats that, believe me. But sometimes, a man's gotta step up."
"And right now, for the citizens of the Holyfield estate, for those kids being sacrificed to some lunatic cult, I'll do what needs doing. No question asked."
Julie's eyes brightened, her voice thick with admiration as she looked at him, her respect deepening. "That's...noble of you." She said, her tone earnest. "Most lords wouldn't care, let alone risk their lives. Thank you, Cassius, for—"
He cut her off, his gaze flicking to the window with a sly smile. "Don't get too sentimental, Captain..." He said, his fingers toying with Skadi's hair, drawing another soft whimper from her. "...as I've got my own reasons to join, too. You see, I've been tinkering with a few...toys lately, things I've crafted myself. And these fanatics seem like the perfect target to test them out." His smile widened, his eyes glinting with mischief. "Plus, the goddess up above, she's been pleased with my work and because of that she'snsent down a few blessings to sweeten the deal."
"...So, this little trip? It's the perfect chance to play with my new tricks and toys."
Julie's brows furrowed, her voice curious but wary.
"Goddess?" She asked, leaning forward. "What goddess? Have you joined some religion I don't know about? And what are these 'toys' you've made? You're a master craftsman, whatever you've built, it could tip the scales. Tell us."
Cassius's smile turned enigmatic, his voice brushing off the goddess comment like a fleeting thought. "Let's not get hung up on the divine, Julie." He said. "As for my toys? They're...special. Designed to wipe out enemies, especially when they're bunched up in big, messy groups."
"...Just think of it like having a hundred mages on your side, without needing a single one."
"A hundred mages?" Aisha's tail flicked, her voice sharp with intrigue as she leaned forward, her claws tapping the desk. "What are you talking about? What kind of weapon does that? Show us, Cassius!"
Seeing that she wanted to see his new toys really bad, he looked towards Lucious.
"Lucious, my dear butler." He said, his tone rich with anticipation. "Bring out the crate the supplies I've been working on. It's time to put them to use."
Lucius, ever the devoted butler, was known for his eagerness to fulfill his master's every whim, his loyalty a steel thread woven into his very being.
But for some r6 at the mention of the 'toys' Cassius had crafted, his composure cracked, his eyes widening with a fear that bordered on panic. He shuffled forward, his voice trembling as he leaned toward Cassius, his hands clasped as if in prayer.
"Young Master, please." He said, his tone a desperate plea. "You can't possibly mean those toys? The ones you made that seem straight out of some infernal abyss? They're...they're dangerous, sir! Absolutely perilous!" He swallowed hard, his face ashen. "I'd lay down my life for you in a heartbeat, you know that, but to fetch those horrific things? One wrong move, one tiny slip, and I'll be sent to the afterlife before I can even whisper a goodbye! Have mercy, Master!"
"Oh, Lucius, you scaredy, cat." Cassius scoffed, his lips curving into a smirk. "Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. It's not a big deal at all."
"I crafted each one myself, perfect and safe, unless you do something utterly boneheaded, like dropping the crate or smashing it into a wall...You're not that clumsy, are you?"
"That's exactly what I'm talking about, Young Master!" He protested, his face flushed with panic. "Knowing what those things can do, I'll be so nervous I might make a stupid mistake! My hands'll shake, I'll trip, and poof! I'll be wiped off the face of the planet! You can't do this to me, sir, I beg you!" His eyes darted to the door, as if calculating his chances of escape.
"Enough whining, Lucius." Cassius interrupted, not even caring about his butler's protests. "Go fetch the crate, and don't make me ask again. You'll be fine, now scoot." He flicked his fingers toward the door, his gaze unrelenting.
Lucius let out a defeated sigh, his shoulders sagging as he turned, muttering under his breath. "Gods above, protect your humble servant." He whispered, his steps slow and reluctant as he shuffled toward the side door, his prayers a quiet murmur as he braced himself for the task.
Seeing him go, Julie, her brows furrowed, stepped closer to the desk, her voice cautious but insistent. "Cassius, what exactly is he bringing?" She asked, her eyes searching his. "Lucius looks like he's marching to his doom, and that's saying something, he'd jump into a dragon's maw for you without blinking. What are these 'toys' that have him so spooked?"
"You'll see, Captain." He murmured, his voice a teasing caress. "It's worth the wait, I promise."
His gaze then flicked to Aisha, who kept stealing glances at the wands scattered on the rug, her tail twitching with barely concealed curiosity.
"Speaking of patience..." He said, his tone playful. "You keep eyeing those wands, Aisha. What's on your mind? Thinking of snagging a few for yourself? I wouldn't blame you either way, since they're pretty little things."
"W-What? No way!" Aisha's cheeks blazed, her voice a flustered squeak "I wasn't...I mean, I'm not trying to take them or anything! I was just...curious, that's all!" Her blush deepened, her eyes darting away as she tried to salvage her dignity.
To prove her point, she reached into her coat, pulling out a slender, delicate wand that suited her petite frame, its surface etched with faint runes. She held it up proudly, her voice defiant but tinged with pride.
"See? I've got my own wand, thank you very much! I enchanted it myself, saved up for ages to buy it. It's got magic efficiency boosts, perfect balance, everything I need, so I don't need your boring wands at all!" She waved it playfully, like a child showing off a prized toy, her tail swishing with enthusiasm.
Cassius's smile widened, his eyes glinting with amusement as he leaned forward. "Is that so?" He said, his tone dripping with disappointment. "That's a shame, Aisha."
Without a word, he reached beneath his desk, opening a drawer with a soft creak, and pulled out another wand, sleek, similar to hers but with a subtle, powerful aura, its runes glowing faintly in the firelight. He held it up, twirling it between his fingers, his gaze locked on hers.
"You see, I was thinking of giving you this one. It belonged to the leader of that mage pack I took down, which I've been using it as a back scratcher, myself because of its perfect shape, nice and firm. And I thought it might suit you better than your little stick there." He tilted his head, his smile wicked. "But if you're so attached to your wand, I guess I'll keep scratching my back with this one." He moved to tuck it back into the drawer.
Seeing this, Aisha's eyes widened, her breath catching as she lunged forward, her voice a frantic shout. "Wait, stop!" She cried, grabbing his hand and the wand in one swift motion, her claws grazing his skin. She held it close, her eyes shimmering with awe as she stared at it, her voice a breathless whisper.
"Is this...a Vaelthorn wand?" She asked, her tone reverent. "Made from starwood, with mana, storage runes? It's, it's basically like mine, but...better! It can cast high, tier spells my wand can't even touch, and it holds mana reserves!"
Her tail swished furiously, her voice rising with excitement.
"I wanted one so bad, but the price was insane, triple of what I paid for mine! I couldn't afford it, so I settled, but...this, I can't believe you actually have it and are using it to scratch your back of all things! What a waste!" She clutched it like a child with a dream come true, her blush deepening as she realized she was still holding his hand.
"Look at you, all starry, eyed. Seems like you want it after all, hmm?" Cassius's chuckle was warm and teasing, his fingers brushing hers as he leaned closer, his voice a sultry murmur. "Should I let you have it, my adorable little mage? Do you really want it since I'm happily willing to let it go for you."
"I, I mean, if you really don't want it, I can take it from you." Aisha's face burned, her voice a flustered squeak as she yanked her hand back, clutching the wand to her chest. "And don't think that I really, really want it or anything! I just...I'd put it to better use, that's all! It's much better in my hands then yours, so I'm confiscating from you." She said before looking away, her coy smile betraying her joy as she hugged the wand, her voice softening.
Seeing this adorable sight, Julie's lips curved into a soft smile, her eyes warm as she watched Aisha's flustered delight. Even Skadi popped up, her tail wagging as she grinned at Aisha, her voice bright.
"You're so cute, blushin' like that, Aisha!" She chirped, her eyes sparkling. "Look like a little kitty cat, all happy with your new toy!" She giggled, leaning into Cassius's chest, her tail swishing against his lap.
Aisha's face blazed, her voice a shrill protest as she pointed at Skadi, her wand still clutched tightly.
"Shut up, mutt!" She snapped, her tail puffing out. "I'm not a kitty cat, and I'm not blushing! I'm just...appreciating a good wand, okay?"
She hugged it closer, her coy smile betraying her happiness as she glanced at Cassius, her eyes shimmering with gratitude...
