Chapter 787: Chapter 626: The Origin of Sword Master Cold Crow?
The spacious hall was in complete disarray, with snow-white fox tails fluttering about.
At this moment, Roger and Sword Master Funiu subdued their energy fluctuations to an extreme, standing stiffly in a corner, their gazes hesitating to even land on the woman who had walked in.
“Even with just a sliver of consciousness, you still instinctively put up a struggle.”
“How many times must we repeat this before you give up?”
She stretched out her slender palm, and on the edge of her cheek, a red pattern flashed briefly.
Roger was very familiar with this power; he had seen it on Higurashi Gushan before–it was the power of the Nekomata Guardian Spirit, the Way of the Asura.
His heartbeat had stopped, and blood no longer flowed; at this moment, there were no signs of life in Roger.
Of course, this alone wasn’t enough; now, an additional energy surged within Sword Master Funiu and him.
It was the ability of the Nine-tailed Fox.
Illusion.
“Look at what you’ve made of this place.”
A flicker of dissatisfaction crossed the woman’s face, and as she released her power, obscure energy lines appeared simultaneously deep beneath the ground beneath her feet and on the surrounding walls.
This energy converged above the dome, and suddenly, an invisible pressure enveloped the White Fox.
Uma displayed just the right amount of struggle; she lowered her body, pretending to be unable to withstand the pressure, and upon seeing her reaction, a satisfied smile spread across the woman’s face.
“That’s right, fulfill your duties well.”
But just then, she seemed to sense something amiss, her gaze casually sweeping across the space, her eyes tinted with confusion.
Boom!!
Just as she was about to scrutinize further, a loud noise erupted; the woman’s gaze snapped back, her figure flickered, and her expression turned very grave.
“What’s going on?”
“Why are there so many anomalies this time?”
“First energy shortages, then rebellions…”
Roger’s gaze caught only a dark shadow; the woman’s body shrunk down and transformed into a nimble black cat before vanishing into the passage.
It wasn’t until Uma’s voice echoed in his mind moments later that Roger began to reawaken the energy within his body, his heart squeezed, blood flowed, and Spiritual Power gradually returned.
“What’s going on?”
he inquired.
Uma’s struggle was not feigned; she struggled to rise from the ground, and while Roger and Sword Master Funiu noticed nothing out of the ordinary, it felt to her as though she were pressed under a massive rock.
“There’s something off about this building, strange energy affecting my current form,”
she glanced at Roger.
“The information I’m getting is incomplete, but it seems this isn’t the only place of its kind here.”
“It looks like there are problems elsewhere, too.”
A thought struck Roger, “Is there a way to covertly check it out?”
Secrets lay hidden all over this place, and Roger’s curiosity was not just out of mere interest; many pieces of information were getting interconnected, all tying back to him in some way.
“I’ll try.”
Uma’s form shrank as she jumped towards the distance, but as she neared the exit, an invisible barrier suddenly appeared in front of her, and with it, a powerful force collided with her.
“Bam!”
A flicker of pain crossed her face, and Uma was thrust back into her original form, reappearing at the center of the hall.
“I can’t, there’s energy here restricting my movements,”
she shook her head,
“If I leave this body, I won’t be able to control it anymore.”
Uma added another line in Roger’s mind,
“But I might have a way to try,” the Sword Master Funiu suddenly spoke up, standing off to the side.
“The bloodline of the Atlas Great Bear has a strong affinity with the earth, and I’ve checked; although there’s a strange power in this hall, it’s not targeted at us,”
“Also, there are no strong Prohibitions within the building.”
He glanced at Roger, “Perhaps this place never once thought, upon its construction, that anyone else could ever enter here.”
Roger nodded, indeed, even upon witnessing the Nekomata, he remained perplexed.
Sword Master Funiu’s explanation, on the other hand, was easier to understand; a King would construct castles and train armies to defend against external invasions,
But even the most timid and insignificant among them would rarely set traps where they lived.
Just as Sword Master Funiu had said, this place likely never considered the possibility of an outsider like Roger when it was built.
“We can move through the earth underneath us.”
Even with a temporary passage promised in a dozen or so days to leave, Sword Master Funiu was still not entirely at ease.
He had already resolved to relocate the entirety of the Funiu Sword Pavilion elsewhere with all his might upon their escape.
Therefore, knowing more information naturally allowed him to make corresponding preparations.
“Let’s go.”
Roger nodded, Sword Master Funiu stepped forward, his wide palm on Roger’s shoulder. The ground beneath them melted like water, and their figures merged into it, returning to normal after a short while.
Moving underground, blending their bodies with everything around them, as everything returned to normal before their eyes, Sword Master Funiu’s gaze toward Roger carried a thick sense of puzzlement.
“Strange, you have an affinity with the earth that surpasses most of the children of the Sword Pavilion, and blood does not lie; I almost thought you had the same bloodline origin as us.”
Roger chuckled, they were now seemingly in the middle-upper levels of the entire building, and not far from them, the sound of a massive rumble accompanied by the noise of fierce battle reached them.
