Demon Hunter and His Cabin
Chapter 764 - Chapter 764 Chapter 614 Malice of the World (Dont Skip)_2

Chapter 764: Chapter 614: Malice of the World (Don’t Skip)_2 Chapter 764: Chapter 614: Malice of the World (Don’t Skip)_2 It wasn’t the sensation Roger had facing Higurashi Gushan and Sword Master Cold Crow.

It was odd, like seeing a person and a mountain.

The peak standing on the earth had no offensiveness, but it simply was something more powerful and majestic than a person.

“For Transcendent beings at this stage, there are many names, Undead, Unliving, and so on.”

“But if they can reach this step, it means they can basically break free from some of the original physical rules.”

“Such as life span…”

“However, this is also an irreversible step, once taken there’s no turning back.”

“The original world starts to squeeze and expel them, either hide in their own small world and never leave, becoming an eternal prisoner.”

“Or, they struggle against the world rules, resist its oppression, continually perfect themselves, and then become dominators of the world.”

Pride surfaced on the Mountain Woman’s face.

“Cough cough, so… you failed?”

Roger couldn’t help but ask.

“What do you know?”

The Mountain Woman’s eyebrows furrowed.

“The path upward is too difficult, it’s not something that can be explained in a few words, to change, one must fuse fragments from different worlds, but after the fusion, they are constantly squeezed by the original world rules.”

“At first, you don’t feel it, but the stronger the power, the more you fuse, the greater the oppression you suffer.”

“Too many people can’t reach the limit and are overwhelmed by the oppression of the world rules, causing their small worlds to collapse.”

“These collapsing small worlds, under the interweaving and influence of the world rules, will form weird cursed items and special areas.”

Upon hearing this, Roger’s heart stirred. Could this be the reason for Armenia and the European Continent’s Cursed Land and cursed items?

However, he always felt the matter wasn’t that simple; those bizarre places and cursed items couldn’t just be formed by one or two collapsing World Fragments.

Inferring backwards, the number of strong ones who reached this level was certainly not small, the further power progression became, the more difficult it was, also basically matching the pyramid-shaped standard of advancement.

According to what the Mountain Woman said, the number of Transcendent beings at the level she described, considering the existing Transcendent base, was simply impossible.

Even if the number of Transcendent beings in the Western World and organizations like the Privy Council hiding in other worlds were dozens of times that of Sunrise, it still seemed unlikely to reach the numbers the Mountain Woman spoke of.

Seemingly noticing Roger’s confusion, “The world you’ve seen is too small. Have you never encountered creatures from other worlds?”

“Those referred to as Descendants or Otherworldly Visitors and the like.”

“Each of them represents a vast world behind them. All the worlds are intertwined, and the base number of Transcendents will far exceed your imagination.”

Otherworldly Visitors…

Only now did Roger recall the briefly existing Foreign Spirit Assembly, similar organizations must exist in many other places across the European Continent or the rest of the world.

Rule exclusion…

Numerous chaotic clues interweaved together, and Roger vaguely grasped something but couldn’t immediately sort it out.

“I am not one of those wastes who shrink in their small worlds waiting to die!” the Mountain Woman snorted coldly.

“I once tried to resist and accumulated great power, but unfortunately, in the end, I fell short under the pressure of the world rules.”

“Small world collapsed, and after the collapse, even the slightest World Fragment, in order to maintain its existence, would self-seal, trapping its fusioner there forever.”

A hint of unwillingness flashed across her face.

It was clear, at her peak the Mountain Woman must have been incredibly powerful, at least beyond what the current Roger could imagine, yet even so, she still failed.

Some clues came together, and many previous puzzles were readily solved.

However, as old problems were resolved, new ones reappeared.

Cursed Land, those Transcendent Worlds intersecting with reality, these World Fragments surely did not appear out of thin air. Could there be omissions in the Mountain Woman’s narration?

According to her, the Transcendents at the level she spoke of who wanted to make further progress needed to make changes outside of the original rules.

And this change couldn’t be effected by themselves; they needed to seek out fragments from other worlds, to extract and fuse those rules.

The specific process and the benefits gained were beyond Roger’s knowledge.

But at least after completing this step, those Transcendents could truly be considered transcendent.

However, clearly, transcendence came at a cost.

One either stays locked within an integrated World Fragment, never to leave, minimizing the oppression from the world’s rules.

Or one could resist, making greater changes, more radical provocations, gaining more oppresion while growing in strength.

Obviously, this carries a great risk but the advantages are, needless to say, obvious.

However, Roger realized another problem.

That was the Elder of Shadows.

Through the corpse of the Elder of Shadows, Roger had seen images of him struggling against others, brief as they were, they left a deep impression on him.

Could the Elder of Shadows be a resister like the Mountain Woman mentioned?

Or a being of higher tier?

While contending with the compression of the world rules, were they also faced with unknown dangers?

Then, where did those fragments initially fused by the Transcendents come from?

It can’t be that countless worlds were disintegrating at the same time and then merging with other worlds.

Thinking of this problem, Roger also noticed something.

That was the Shadow World…

Be it the Mountain Woman, the Elder of Shadows, or the place he was currently in, none of it was the colorful micro-worlds they described.

It was simply a pure Land of Shadows.

Upon realizing this issue, Roger directly voiced his inquiry.

“I’m starting to fancy you, genuine fancy.”

The Mountain Woman clasped her hands, compressing a certain part of her body to resemble a mountain peak.

A name as befitting as her appearance.

“Though I do not know what you plan to do, at least you are much better than those mindless fools, and most importantly, you didn’t rashly attempt to attack me.”

“And the fact is, your attacks are useless against me now.”

She smiled candidly.

“This is a difference in tiers, only Transcendents of the same stage can harm each other.”

“Below that, even if your power could shatter a mountain, it would be meaningless.”

“Just as you mentioned, why did I and this world’s end both turn into shadows?”

“Because shadows are the fundamental reason for the interweaving of different worlds, or they could be understood as the only rule that exists in multiple worlds at the same time.”

“At least, it’s the only rule that we know of.”

“It is precisely because of the interweaving of the Shadow World that fragmentation and fusion occur between different worlds.”

“And it is the breaking of the Shadow World that ultimately causes the other worlds to blend, leading to everything now.”

“When a world is sealed and there are no changes in the rules, slowly, the sealed world gets assimilated by the Shadow World and ends up like it is today.”

A trace of scorn appeared on the Mountain Woman’s face.

“Those self-secluded individuals, after living through immense spans, inevitably face the outcome you see.”

“Assimilated, devoured, turned into nourishment for the world.”

“You see, even the core rules of this world are that cruel.”

Although the Mountain Woman was not making herself entirely clear, Roger could basically understand the meaning she was conveying.

World rules, Shadow Fragments, and Transcendents wanting to escape their fate created a cycle through mingling and fusion.

The World Fragments tangled by the shadow provided Transcendents the possibility to break free from the rules, but their demise resulted in the creation of more fragments of worlds.

In this process, it would expedite the empowerment of a majority of Transcendents, who would then follow the path of the Pioneers.

Either waiting to be assimilated or resisting only to face the same outcome.

The world was like a greedy predator, nurturing Transcendents, only to harvest them, among all these Transcendents, does one truly capable of escaping the world’s rules exist?

For a moment, Roger felt malice coming from the entire world.

Demon Hunters hunt monsters.

But to this world, all Transcendents are its prey.
