Chapter 736: Chapter 601 Maple Forest Chapter 736: Chapter 601 Maple Forest “Let’s talk. Besides the things you’re unwilling to discuss, is there anything left for us to talk about?”
Uma slowly walked out of the room.
“Do you remember the thing I mentioned to you last time?” the Mountain Woman asked directly.
“I need you to do something for me.”
The smile on Uma’s face faded, “Didn’t you say you needed Roger’s strength to reach a certain level?”
“That’s only one aspect. The most important thing is the transformation in you,” the Mountain Woman pointed at Uma.
“You went to some peculiar place, similar to Shadow Fragments.”
Uma didn’t respond, but her demeanor said it all.
“Do you want to ask how I know about it?” The Mountain Woman continued on her own.
“You won’t tell me,” Uma scoffed coldly.
“That’s right, I won’t. But listen, what comes next is very important to both of us. As long as you’re willing to help me…”
Uma irritably covered her ears, knowing this action couldn’t stop the Mountain Woman’s voice from entering, she just wanted to express her feelings through her behavior.
“I can give you freedom.”
Uma was startled at first, but her expression quickly turned to intense anger, “The damn freedom, the last time you said that to me, I turned into a tumor on your ugly body!”
“You think I would still trust you?”
“What else?” the Mountain Woman sneered.
“Apart from trusting me, you think you can rely on your so-called master?”
“In this world, only I am the one who truly stands by your side unwaveringly.”
“You know well that the contract between you and that man can’t give you true freedom.”
Uma fell silent.
The Mountain Woman continued to speak.
“The place you went to, you must have sensed something special about it. If there’s a chance, I hope you can guide your master to the deepest and most central area of that region.”
“Uma, you know how to find it. The energy will guide you.”
“And then?”
Uma lifted her head.
“Then, then you don’t have to do anything.”
The Mountain Woman was expressionless.
“What about Roger?” After a long hesitation, Uma finally asked.
“Him?”
“I don’t know.”
…
When Roger and Yatagarasu Kensumi left, they didn’t attract anyone’s attention.
At first, Roger thought entering the Land of Eternal Darkness required a challenging journey, but he realized it wasn’t so after they embarked on their journey.
Together with Kensumi, they traveled to the city below Hankawa and were transported to Mingsha City through the Black Tower. What Yatagarasu Kensumi did next was an eye-opener for Roger.
After entering Mingsha City, Yatagarasu Kensumi rested for a day, and then, as the first ray of sunlight hit the top of the Black Tower the next day, he buried a Talisman at the central crossroad in the city’s true east.
Then, at regular intervals, Yatagarasu Kensumi changed position, following the path of the sun, burying corresponding items in various corners of the city.
He chose crossroads for the spots to place things which were curious and varied.
A wheel, a fan, unidentified hair and eyeballs, until the sun set, after meandering around, Yatagarasu Kensumi buried the last Talisman facing west, where the sun sets.
With that, all of the preparations were thoroughly completed.
Throughout this process, Roger did not interfere with Yatagarasu Kensumi. He could tell that this wasn’t a fixed, procedural task.
There were certainly things he did not know involved in it, and the items used were very strange, many of which were hard to associate with an Onmyoji Array.
“Here, where the vitality of numerous cities converges, is the entrance to the Land of Eternal Darkness. The expansion of the city and the gathering of its population all take this as the basis,” Yatagarasu Kensumi explained offhandedly.
“Next, we need to wait.”
After finishing the task at hand, Yatagarasu Kensumi seemed much more relaxed, “Twelve entrances, this is the current number, and the rate of increase has been faster in recent years.”
“The people from the Tengu Shrine might be feeling desperate by now. If it can’t be killed, then why not merge with it instead.”
Time passed slowly, and Yatagarasu Kensumi sat in the Black Tower.
Day and night alternated, and transformations happened in an instant. Meanwhile, at the various crossroads in the city where the interactions took place, the items Yatagarasu Kensumi planted during the day were activated by an unknown force.
Starting from the first Talisman in the east, all nodes were opened one after another. Roger could feel the changes in the city–initially, he could sense the surging vitality in the energy nodes, but this force quickly faded.
The whole city was asleep, and these changes went unnoticed.
As the ritual progressed, vitality receded, and darkness grew.
In the corners of the city, some forces began to stir.
It sounds slow, but from the first Talisman buried in the east to the last one buried in the west, the whole process took only a few breaths.
When everything ended, all the power converged at the top of the Black Tower.
Humming!
The energy vibrated, and in that moment, everything turned upside down!
This was not just a figure of speech, Roger watched in awe as the Black Tower, where he and Yatagarasu Kensumi were, turned upside down.
When all returned to silence, Roger frowned, already sensing the ominous energy outside the Black Tower.
Yatagarasu Kensumi opened his eyes and stood up.
“We’re in.”
“This is the Land of Eternal Darkness.”
“If we leave here, our vitality will amplify and be caught by things wandering within.”
“To find the Flower of Eternal Darkness and return, we’ll need to pass through here.”
He put on the hood of the robe draped over him, “Be cautious, this garment can cover our vitality. Try to avoid unnecessary battles as they will reveal our tracks.”
