Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 710 - Chapter 710 Chapter 588 Eternal Darkness
Chapter 710: Chapter 588 Eternal Darkness Chapter 710: Chapter 588 Eternal Darkness Standing atop the hill, Roger looked out far into the distance.
Desolate and decayed.
Surrounding him was silence so complete that not even a breath of wind stirred; the scenery in every direction seemed to repeat itself endlessly.
He harbored some speculations in his heart, but Roger could not discern why he had come to this place when suddenly, not far away, the land churned as if something was burrowing up from beneath.
Rumble, rumble.
Dull sounds rolled in from the sky, casting the surrounding environment into deeper gloom in an instant.
This description was odd, for the world had always been dim, lacking any apparent light source. Moments later, Roger realized that this sensory dimness did not originate from his five senses.
It was the perception of Spiritual Power that enveloped him.
The dark energy intensified, quickly precipitating changes in the surroundings.
“Is this the land of Everworld, or what they call Eternal Darkness?”
Roger retracted his Spiritual Power to form only a thin layer over his body and, like a mirage, mottled light and shadows began appearing all around him.
He saw towering skyscrapers; he saw crowds of people in all shapes and colors. Strangely, all of their facial features were blurred.
They were dressed in bright clothes, their forms twisted as if they were monsters.
This place reflected the ugly interiors of reality.
The light and shadows before him grew chaotic, the skyscrapers disappeared, countless deaths played out, accompanied by many corruptions.
Roger finally understood how the evil of Everworld could affect reality.
It must be here.
The ground shook, the dirt boiled like liquid, and a foul stench spread all around; Roger saw dismembered corpses crawling out of the soil, one of which was a poor soul who had been crushed by a truck not long ago.
And there was another, their belly split open with a centipede-like creature squeezing out.
And the woman who had just appeared in the distance; she originally had a fair face, and an elegant demeanour. But in solitude, the woman quietly parted the hair at the back of her head.
Hidden beneath her lush hair was a gaping mouth.
She carefully stuffed whatever food she could see into the large mouth at the back of her head, chewing and swallowing with satisfied laughter.
Do some people from the world of the living come to this place after death and transform into monsters under the influence of special powers?
The discoveries before him gave Roger a deeper understanding of Everworld and the world of the living.
How many of the wandering monsters were born from this world?
And how many are the result of a transformation from the Living Souls of the current world?
Could destroying the world of reality indirectly destroy this evil world? A wild thought suddenly crossed his mind, and Roger felt that there might be more behind the choices of Tengu Shrine.
What they called assimilation…
By now, the changes around him were nearing their end. Near the hill where Roger stood was a dense throng of bizarre creatures.
Most of them were in a state of chaos, obviously having forgotten all memories they held as humans.
Not knowing where it began, slaughter and devouring ensued.
The number of monsters rapidly decreased, but the strength of the survivors grew, and in the process of killing and assimilation, their forms underwent significant changes.
For more of the world’s unique powers had infiltrated them.
Chariot of Fire, Biyuan Monkey, Worm Insect Path, Hundred Eyes.
As the slaughter and devouring reached their climax, some of the monsters began to notice Roger’s presence.
They rushed at him one after another.
However, these newly formed things were only frightening in appearance; the strongest among them was merely at the Third Tier.
Roger did not even need to swing his sword; a mere release of Spiritual Power easily crushed them.
Having witnessed some of the rules by which this world operated, Roger planned to leave; without a specific reference, any random choice could bring severe consequences.
Was he drawing nearer or drifting further away?
This related to the life and death of Higurashi Chika.
And just as Roger was about to leave, something caught the corner of his eye as he glanced at it. In a pile of stacked monsters, he noticed a familiar face.
Startled, Roger flashed closer.
“Back off!”
He waved his hand casually, and as Spiritual Power burst forth, the monsters still madly clawing and biting instantly crumbled, revealing a figure being attacked by numerous monsters.
The person looked pitiful, their body torn to pieces, and what was once a handsome face was now only partially recognizable.
The left side of the face, along with the ear, had been bitten off by something, showing the flipped muscles and pale bones.
Feeling Roger’s presence, the other monsters dared not approach, while the figure lying on the ground looked dazed, eyes unfocused, like a lamb to the slaughter.
“Yuan Guanghai.”
Roger called out the man’s name, but the figure on the ground showed no response.
Roger found it strange; he had seen Yuan Guanghai die right before his eyes, his corpse even utilized by Sword Master Funiu, becoming a sort of tool to initiate the Spirit Skill.
With but a few brief exchanges between them, Roger could not fathom Yuan Guanghai’s despair upon knowing the truth; he chose to end it all with his own death, partly in the hope that Red Sparrow could survive.
Perhaps, on the other hand, it was also due to some shame and guilt in the depths of his heart.
A thought struck him, and Roger suddenly took out the green stone that Sword Master Funiu had given him.
In this place, the surface of the stone emitted a red glow, flowing like blood. Perhaps triggered by this, Yuan Guanghai, who had been as still as a wooden chicken, suddenly reacted.
