Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 676 - Chapter 676 Chapter 571 The Path of Cultivation
Chapter 676: Chapter 571 The Path of Cultivation Chapter 676: Chapter 571 The Path of Cultivation Without complaint, Roger’s gaze was calm as he accepted everything unflinchingly.
He knew that the Sword Master Cold Crow must have had his motives to take him on as a student, but the opportunity was equally precious to Roger.
After entering the Fourth Tier, Roger could feel his progress significantly slowing down, and he often had the sensation of a headless fly crashing about.
This opportunity could help him quickly close the gap with other Cultivators, and with the right direction and the help of the Hunter’s Cabin, Roger believed he could accumulate experience rapidly and make a breakthrough.
“Meiryu once said something quite right, that the swordsmanship you wield is unremarkable, save for the last one,”
“In fact, even the last one is merely somewhat interesting.”
“You’ve mastered a medley of things–too diverse and disordered. Time is limited; we must concentrate our energies on the most critical matters.”
“I know you’re from the Western World and may have a much longer lifespan than Eastern Cultivators, but everything has its pros and cons.”
“If you don’t focus on one thing, you may still reach the Peak, but you will never be able to achieve the pinnacle in that one thing!”
“Like my teacher, the Tengu Divine Master.”
“He was once renowned as the most outstanding Onmyoji in a hundred years, you should know the Tengu Shrine has eight major legacies, each sufficient to cultivate to the realm of Divine Master.”
“He was proficient in six of them and sought to master the remaining two through sheer effort, to integrate the eight branches into one, reaching a realm that had never been attained by anyone in the past.”
“Achieving the fame of the Great Tengu.”
“But alas… he still failed!”
The Sword Master Cold Crow sighed.
“And at his Peak, he was defeated by my sword.”
“I have no other distractions, only a sword in my heart, only one philosophy.”
“No matter whether you were skilled in spells or bloodlines in the Western World, here you must forget what you have learned and focus solely on the sword in your hand.”
“And then follow that road to its end.”
“Release your Guardian Spirit.”
The Sword Master Cold Crow instructed.
Roger nodded, and the metallic Nekomata appeared beside him, its two tails swishing behind it, a third tail beginning to flicker into visibility.
“The Nekomata seems a bit different…”
“But it’s been a long time since I’ve seen such a Guardian Spirit.”
“Do you know why?”
The Sword Master Cold Crow asked softly. Not waiting for Roger’s response, he went on, “A long time ago, I knew a man with a Nekomata Guardian Spirit, a very powerful fellow.”
He chuckled softly, his wrinkled face relaxing as if he was reminiscing about the illustrious days of his past.
“There aren’t many I’ve met in my lifetime whom I could consider powerful, but he was one of them.”
“Unfortunately… he too, could not escape the fate that comes with having a Nekomata.”
“He went mad!”
He looked up at Roger, “You’ve already experienced that addictive surge of power, haven’t you?”
“That feeling like cheating, where you can endlessly expand your Spiritual Power through killing.”
Roger didn’t respond, but his expression said it all; he had believed the ability to Spirit Eat came from the Hunter’s Cabin, but now it seemed that it must be an innate power of the Nekomata Guardian Spirit.
“Is there a way to rid myself of that burden?” asked Roger.
“Of course not.”
The Sword Master Cold Crow shook his head, “Such an odd ability should not exist in this world. If it had no flaws, then the people of this world would have long been wiped out by the Nekomata.”
A mysterious glint flashed in the Sword Master Cold Crow’s eyes, making Roger feel that he must be hiding something.
“You’ve obtained a lot of lineage techniques from Kensumi, show me.”
Roger remained silent but leaped into the fray, swinging the Sword of Destiny, practicing each of the swordsmanship techniques he had learned.
“Sword Heart…”
“Don’t waste your talent, don’t devote your energy to learning this rubbish.”
“These sword techniques are useless?”
Roger challenged.
Many of the sword styles he learned had greatly broadened his horizons, and indeed, he had gleaned much from them.
Left to his own devices, he feared he would never be able to truly understand or master any Sword Seal.
“Practice prior to the Fourth Tier is about amassing strength, but once we enter the Fourth Tier, the accumulation of strength becomes less important; what matters is application.”
“With your current combat skills, even if your strength triples, against Meiryu who is restrained to the initial stages of the Fourth Tier, you’d still face certain death.”
“You must understand, under certain rules, the power we can master is finite. Once you reach that limit, you’ll find unless you step out of this world, your power will not improve by a single iota.”
“At the same stage, whomever has a deeper insight into power is the stronger!”
Roger was inwardly shaken.
This was very different from the notions he had been brought up with in the Western World. However, possibly, in the circles of higher level Transcendents within the Privy Council, there were also uses of power unknown to Roger.
“It’s useless to learn too much about those minor sword styles, it’s just superficial, the simplest of techniques, just enough to pass the time. What you need is to identify the core elements of your swordsmanship, the core of your philosophy.”
“Philosophy?”
A hint of bewilderment crossed Roger’s face.
He suddenly realized he might have deviated in his understanding and application of the Sword Seal.
