Demon Hunter and His Cabin
Chapter 654 - Chapter 654 Chapter 560 The Eyes Behind

Chapter 654: Chapter 560 The Eyes Behind… Chapter 654: Chapter 560 The Eyes Behind… The centipedes rolling on the ground were about as thick as a thumb, their bodies covered in bright red carapaces, and dense legs stretched out.

They surged out from the man’s body all at once, most of them curling into a ball, their carapaces rubbing against the gravel on the ground, making a clacking sound.

This sudden change, however, didn’t cause Roger to panic. It was just that the bright red bodies twisted together, and the numerous legs were hardly pleasant for an onlooker to see.

“Bang!”

Roger stepped back, and his Spiritual Power suddenly burst forth, creating an invisible wall that the swarming centipedes hit.

Some of them, because of their fierce momentum and the Intimidation from the Spiritual Power, burst open with a snapping sound upon collision, their juices splattered all over the ground.

As these centipedes died, green smoke rose from their bodies. A cold wind blew by, dispersing the pervasive smoke, and Yuuki Nao walked up from behind.

“What’s going on?”

“How did the city become like this?”

Although protected by the Onmyoji Array, every city had its share of demon nuisances, an unavoidable issue.

Some Monsters living in Everworld were intangible by nature, spawned from the darker aspects of humanity and feeding off evil thoughts to grow.

And human nature…

Was the most unpredictable thing.

If the entire city had fallen, Yatagarasu Kensumi would also share in the blame.

By the time Yuuki Nao approached, Roger had already cleared the centipedes from the ground, their corpses and viscous liquid forming a thick layer.

Roger held his breath; he had no desire to inhale any odors emanating from the remains.

Just then, Roger’s gaze sharpened. Behind the mass of corpses, at the spot where the man he had seen earlier had propped himself, there appeared to be a fist-sized black hole.

Roger was just about to go forward for a closer look when suddenly, a sharp sound of slicing wind approached, and several figures descended from the sky.

“Who are you?”

The speaker was a not-so-tall man with protruding Arm Bones and a rugged face.

“Where did these guys come from?” Roger frowned, recalling that when he came out of the tower, he had checked the surroundings and, although only briefly, he wouldn’t have missed several human figures.

However, he did not answer, shifting to reveal Yuuki Nao stuck behind him.

In an instant, Roger could clearly see a spark of intensity flare in the eyes of the men before him.

That was the reaction most men had upon seeing a beautiful woman.

Only, the gazes of these few were overly greedy and offensive.

“A woman?”

“Be careful, everyone!”

The leading man suddenly said, and from his reaction alone, Roger could not tell if he was genuinely cautious or just taking the opportunity to assert himself.

The man’s gaze swept from Yuuki Nao’s cheek downwards, but quickly he noticed a symbol on the woman’s chest, and his expression subtly changed.

“You’re from Sword Pavilion?!”

There was no joy in his voice, nor the respect Roger had seen towards Sword Pavilion elsewhere.

“What happened here? Where are the other people in the city?” Yuuki Nao asked sternly.

“Envoy from Sword Pavilion, recently, certain areas of the city have suffered Monster attacks, but the problem is not too serious, we’ve only sealed off this area.”

“If you walk a distance away from here, you’ll see the real city,” the man said, pointing towards a direction behind him, but from where Roger stood, he could only see the endless sands and the edges of buildings rising and falling.

“Take me to see Ishii Mitsugu!” Yuuki Nao demanded curtly.

“This is…” the leader looked at Yuuki Nao with a probing tone.

“Call me Ice Butterfly,” Yuuki Nao replied.

Roger thought for a moment, “White Wolf.”

“Honored guests, please follow me,” said the man, who appeared to finally find his bearings, his tone a bit more respectful, though his actions were casual, far less refined than the factions they’d previously encountered.

Yuuki Nao started walking forward, but Roger did not move, instead turning to look at the spot that had caught his attention before.

If he remembered correctly, the position corresponding to the fist-sized hole above should be the buttocks of the man who had knelt on the ground.

“Did these creatures drill up from underground?” Roger couldn’t imagine the agony the man must have endured before his death.

Just as he was about to step forward, a burly body blocked his path.

“White Wolf, the way is over there,” the man said with a faux smile, and Roger noted that while his face was respectful, his eyes showed a hint of mockery.

Noticing the Spiritual Power Fluctuation from the other person, Roger suddenly understood something; the man, though unattractive, had reached the peak of the Third Tier.

Comparable to the power Roger was currently displaying, in this unstable world, strength was indeed the foundation of everything.

Roger raised an eyebrow, “Are you stopping me?”

His voice was calm, but the man facing him felt his heart contract sharply, and soon his face was full of smiles, “How could I?”

“What you’re seeing are just the eggs deposited by the Monster inside the human body. Besides having a strong Corrosion quality, these things also smell bad, and more importantly, once stained, they’re impossible to clean off, even with special spices.”

“I was just worried you might… end up smelling like death if you stayed too long,” the man said.
