Chapter 546: Chapter 506: LV10 (Two in One) Chapter 546: Chapter 506: LV10 (Two in One) Early morning.
The first ray of sunlight spilled over this quiet and peaceful small town.
Adeline got up early, having adjusted to her new daily routine recently; after breakfast, she dropped Jack off at school and headed to the Baytown police station.
The town had settled down a lot, and work, though busy, consisted mostly of trivial matters. She enjoyed her leisure time with a cup of coffee and dealt sporadically with Greg’s teasing.
Though she wouldn’t admit it verbally, Adeline’s nature was such that, had she truly despised it, she would have flatly rejected it long ago.
Busy with work all day, she returned home at dusk and was preparing dinner when suddenly, the doorbell rang.
“Just a moment!”
Adeline shouted back, turned off the gas, dried her hands, and hurried to the front door.
“Excuse me, sir, may I ask…”
Adeline paused, noticing something familiar about the tall man before her, but the obvious changes in him gave her pause.
But soon enough.
“It’s been a while. I thought there would be a surprise hug.”
Roger made a funny face. It was only in the presence of this woman that he could feel the warmth of ordinary life.
This allowed him to momentarily step out of the whirlpool of the Transcendent World.
“Roger! Is it really you!?”
Adeline hugged Roger with a look of astonishment on her face.
“My God, how long has it been, and how much you’ve changed!”
The first time he had seen Adeline, Roger had still been a slender youth, but after completing the Green Grass Trial, he had undergone significant changes.
Now, he was a true fourth-stage Transcendent, and even without demonstrating any power, the difference in his aura was unforgettable.
“It’s good to see you.”
Although Roger had covertly returned to Baytown during this period, for a variety of reasons, he couldn’t reveal himself to Adeline and only watched her from a distance.
Looking past Roger’s back, Adeline’s gaze fell on the empty lawn, a hint of loss appearing on her face.
“Amanda said she was attending an important training…”
“I visited her a few days ago. I think it won’t be long before she can return here.”
Roger interrupted Adeline’s words.
“That’s great news.”
With that, she inspected Roger up and down. “You and Amanda…”
Please, is it really okay to ask such a question to someone’s face?
“Uh… everything’s fine.”
Roger responded vaguely.
What’s with everyone lately, always asking that question?
“Come in, I’m preparing dinner.”
Adeline invited Roger in, “Your room is still vacant, go freshen up and come down for dinner.”
Come down for dinner.
Roger couldn’t remember the last time someone had said those words to him.
Lately, all he had experienced was endless battle, but stepping into this small town, into this house, he felt completely at ease.
But soon Roger reminded himself.
He wasn’t here for a real break.
After changing into more casual clothes and just opening his bedroom door, a sneaky little head popped out.
It was Jack.
Kids always grow up fast.
Just months apart and the little rascal had shot up a good bit, his eyes darting around mischievously, “Ahem…”
“Dear brother Roger.”
Upon being discovered by Roger, Jack stood up straight.
“Long time no see, didn’t you bring me a present this time?”
As he spoke, he peered furtively at the backpack behind Roger.
“Whatever you want, I’ll buy it for you.”
When he first arrived here, Roger lived off of the pocket money from Adeline, but now, although he couldn’t claim to be a millionaire, money in the real world…
“From the first day I met you, I knew that knowing you was the greatest happiness of Amanda’s life.”
“Enough already.”
Such flattery made even Roger cringe, but for a toy, Jack was all in.
“Buy me a ticket to Miss Katie’s concert.”
Strangely enough, the request surprised Roger.
Though he had been out of touch with real life for a while, Roger knew that Miss Katie was a somewhat famous teenage singer from the Bordeaux region.
Reportedly still in high school, her attractive appearance and sweet voice had won her a large student following.
But at Jack’s age…
“What do you want with a ticket to her concert?”
“At your age, even if you had a ticket, they wouldn’t let you in.”
Roger kindly pointed out.
“Of course, I know. The ticket isn’t for me.”
Jack seriously analyzed his strategy, “I plan to bribe Miss Jennifer with it, ahem…”
“Of course, she’s already 18, way too old.”
“But her little sister is just the right age, maybe she can introduce us.”
“I noticed her on the first day I transferred schools.”
Jack’s eyes glittered with excitement.
Uh…
Roger’s face fell flat.
The children in Armenia are growing up too fast; it hasn’t been long, yet the innocent young boy has left behind the age of playing with toys.
He began to understand there was a new kind of ‘toy’ that would follow him for life.
“Alright, then.”
Adeline’s voice calling from downstairs interrupted them, but Roger agreed nonetheless.
Before leaving, he patted Jack on the head, “If I may be so bold, what’s the name of the girl you have a crush on?”
