Chapter 474: Chapter 468: Merging into the Painting Chapter 474: Chapter 468: Merging into the Painting “Where are we going now?”
Having left the mountain area, the two changed into a new set of clothes and got into the car they had prepared beforehand.
From the looks of their attire, Roger could roughly guess where they were headed, “The suit matches the color of your hair well.”
Roger said with a smile.
“Louis Cavendish.”
Anna pretended not to see the teasing expression on Roger’s face. This was their second mission together. In the world of Little Red Riding Hood, her abilities were lacking, and most of the fighting was done by Roger.
This time, Anna felt she needed to perform well no matter what.
“He is a famous Polish painter, born into a family with a long history of painting, and his father and grandfather were even inducted into the European Century’s Hall of Fame for art,” she explained.
“Though young, he has shown artistic talents that even surpass his elders, merging different styles, with great painting skills and aesthetic taste. His future is boundless!”
Roger listened nonchalantly to Anna’s tale until, unable to hold back, he chuckled, “Do you really think it’s a good idea to praise another man in front of me?”
“I’m not finished yet.”
Anna lifted her head, “Apart from his distinguished family background and exceptional scholarship, this Louis is also a renowned handsome man in high society.”
“For various reasons, he even received an honorary knighthood from the Engelman Royal family, making him a genuine aristocrat.”
“In a moment, we’re going to attend a banquet he is hosting tonight, which is also a small-scale art mixer. He will display several of his recent paintings there and conduct an auction on the spot!”
Anna glanced at Roger, “However, this is an internal mixer, and you need an invitation to enter.”
“Dear Mr. Bedivere, now’s the time to show off your power and status.”
Anna checked the time pretentiously.
“Hmm, there’s still an hour until we arrive, we should have enough time.”
Roger, however, shook his head, “An invitation?”
“I haven’t needed one of those for a long time.”
The two bantered and laughed, making the time pass quickly as the car drove on, eventually arriving near a manor built on a hillside.
The air here was fresh, and the scenery beautiful — a great place for a holiday retreat.
The whole building’s decor also had a modern feel, which was refreshing for Roger, having dealt lately with nothing but old castles.
When Roger arrived at the entrance of the manor, he unexpectedly ran into another person, Kidd, the male sorcerer who had come to investigate with Amanda.
Seeing Roger, Kidd looked uncomfortable, wishing he could keep his distance from these two.
“Let’s go, we’ll enter together.”
Roger’s eyes gleamed with a strange light, and with the Axis Dharma Seal leading the way, ordinary guards and attendants stood no chance. The three of them entered the manor unobstructed.
It was the afternoon, and the formal banquet hadn’t yet started, nor had the host arrived, but the entire manor was immaculately maintained.
There were already many guests milling about. Roger might not pay attention to current affairs, but Amanda and Kidd at his side recognized several prominent figures often seen on television.
The entire manor was divided into several areas: a spacious lawn, a beautiful garden, and even a small hunting ground built along the mountainside.
Atop the manor was a square glass curtain wall with a helipad on top. The curtain wall had been specially treated. Inside was a large pool.
The temperature in Poland had dropped for the season, so naturally, no pool parties were underway. However, the glass curtain wall atop the roof absorbed some heat and perfectly dealt with light pollution, making the pool’s temperature comfortable.
Numerous attractive women in light clothing swam and played by the pool.
As a family with a legacy, the most prominent position in the first-floor hall showcased portraits of the family’s patriarchs through the generations.
Each portrait, painted by the person it depicted, showcased different styles and painting techniques. Roger had no interest in these, but while he observed the portraits, he noticed something odd.
Looking at Amanda busily searching for clues, Roger was tempted to remind her, but after giving it some thought, he felt that for the sake of his happiness that night, it was best not to disturb the sorceress caught up in her investigation.
Hmm… Perhaps solving mysteries could also be a form of enjoyment.
Besides the family statues in the first-floor hall, the adjacent corridors also displayed some artworks by the manor’s owner and his older relatives.
Elegantly dressed men and women meandered among them with wine glasses in hand, exchanging low murmurs and intermittent expressions of admiration.
“This is so boring.”
As a commoner, this was the kind of life Roger once aspired to, but now, accustomed to the thrills of the Transcendent World, this seemingly luxurious life was moving further away from him.
“To be honest, this party is less interesting than the brains of Water Ghosts.”
Amanda and Kidd went off to gather clues separately, leaving Roger to enjoy his leisure, casually sipping his drink in a quiet corner.
He declined the pool invitations from a few young and beautiful ladies. Although the girls were youthful and attractive, Roger felt it was better to keep his distance to avoid the possibility of them being incinerated by Amanda later that night.
