Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 419 - Chapter 419 Chapter 419 Gathering
Chapter 419: Chapter 419: Gathering Chapter 419: Chapter 419: Gathering Tristan didn’t answer the question but looked at Yebeni instead.
“Did you find the Deerhead Spirit’s Hostage?”
“The Spell guided me here, but once I arrived, it was disrupted. However, I suspect that the monster’s Hostage must be nearby.”
“If these annoying creatures hadn’t delayed me a bit, I might have already found it by now.”
“We must speed up!”
Without further hesitation, Tristan started searching carefully with his weapon in hand.
“No need for such trouble.”
Yebeni looked relaxed.
“It is true that these nuisances were interfering before.”
“It was killed within the range of the Array, and although there was interference after coming here, I just need to…”
As he spoke, Yebeni clapped his hands, and the surrounding plants converged at his feet, forming a strange pattern.
A slit opened between his eyebrows, and a drop of green liquid seeped out.
The liquid automatically floated to the center of the Array, then exploded into a puff of smoke with a bang. Guided by some force, the smoke shot straight towards a certain direction in the woods.
“It’s right there!”
Without any hesitation, Yebeni followed the direction, with Tristan close behind.
“Boom!”
An ancient tree was torn open.
Underneath the roots of the old tree, deep in the buried soil, a Dryad’s head was exposed.
Muttering incantations under his breath, something seemed to be wriggling in the soil, and the ground slowly loosened as if something was about to break through the surface.
The roots unfurled and a solitary head was pulled out from the depths of the earth.
Below this head were dense networks of roots and branches, and these entangled vines and limbs formed a vague human shape.
Part of it was connected to the old tree, while another part was embedded into the solitary head.
In the rootstock, one could even see a bright red substance resembling blood.
“Quite a clever fellow,” Yebeni said with a smile.
“The so-called Hostage must be a living thing. In the forest, a Deerhead Spirit generally chooses an inconspicuous animal or a traveler passing by chance.”
He let out a sigh.
“But this fellow used a Spell to create a half-dead, half-alive Hostage for itself.”
“If it weren’t for the interference of the Array, we wouldn’t have imagined in our wildest dreams that the Deerhead Spirit’s Hostage would be buried under a large tree.”
“And all that’s left is a nearly dead head.”
He reached out and pinched the head, which emitted a faint light, as if resisting the power in Yebeni’s hand.
Yebeni exerted a bit more force.
“Pff!”
The head caved in. Despite the plants surrounding it frantically pumping in Energy, its life was quickly cut off, dying completely.
“It’s over.”
“The timing should be just right.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than the interior of the tree seemed to be forcibly stuffed with a gigantic object. The cracked trunk swelled explosively and the corpse of a monster was squeezed out from within.
It was the Deerhead Spirit that the Gareth brothers had killed.
Yebeni walked into the pool of blood and pulled out a green dagger from his waist.
He cut off the Deerhead Spirit’s antlers and glanced at Tristan.
“By agreement, this belongs to me now.”
Tristan opened his mouth, but after giving it some thought, it seemed that the matter didn’t concern him much, so he nodded.
“Take it. I won’t tell Bedivere.”
“Heh, suit yourself,” said Yebeni indifferently.
Tristan took a deep breath, “Since that’s the case, let’s leave here first.”
He looked in the direction from whence he had come, the sounds of battle seemingly absent in the distance. It appeared that Gaheris and the others had also left.
…
“We were so close, we almost killed that thing!”
Gaheris chased after their target, lamenting that Roger was much stronger than Tristan, and the three of them worked in such perfect harmony, gradually worsening the Deerhead Spirit’s injuries.
Unfortunately, at the last moment, this overly cautious approach still gave the monster an opportunity to break away from the fight after a massive loss.
Unwilling to give up this chance, the Gareth brothers pursued relentlessly, and Roger, not having obtained the Hart Spirit’s Horn he desired, of course, refused to give up too.
In a chase where three pursued one, the Deerhead Spirit’s speed in fleeing through the forest was extremely fast, and it was adept at using the terrain for camouflage. Had Roger not continuously activated Hunter Vision, the creature would have likely already escaped.
Gradually, a hint of confusion appeared on Roger’s face, as he felt something familiar about the surrounding environment.
After crossing a mountain, a village came into sight.
“Why here?”
A few steps after bursting forth, the stench of blood carried by the wind wrinkled Roger’s brow.
Such a rich scent of blood meant that a terrible slaughter must have taken place in the village!
Sure enough, Roger, who was at the forefront, soon saw the bodies of Dryads, bound into bizarre shapes by green vines.
Sharp spikes pierced their bodies, as blood covered the entire area.
At this time, the Gareth brothers also caught up, and from a distance, they saw Yebeni and Tristan.
“Block him quick, he’s done for!”
Gaheris shouted loudly.
Tristan hesitated, but still steeled himself and charged forward. Despite the Ancient Breed looking miserable, in these moments of life and death, it was more dangerous than ever.
As for Yebeni, he seemed indifferent to the matter, quickly darting to one side.
“Boom!”
Before he could get close, Tristan was sent flying by a ferocious burst of energy, but his appearance helped Roger and the others to temporarily slow down the Deerhead Spirit’s speed.
Gaheris leapt into the air, his body flashing with blue lightning, and he roared as he channeled all his power into the spear in his hands.
“Go!”
With the force of thunder and lightning!
The blue spear pierced through the weak spot of the Deerhead Spirit’s wound, followed by Gaheris clenching his fist in agony.
“Explode!”
With a tremendous boom, the Deerhead Spirit’s wound was torn apart, its body riddled with gaping wounds as it staggered a few steps before its massive body collapsed to the ground!
“We finally caught it!”
Gaheris gasped weakly.
He looked at the Hart Spirit’s Horn in Yebeni’s hand.
“Set up the Array again; I need to find this Ancient Breed’s Hostage.”
Yebeni shrugged his shoulders.
“That’s not part of what we promised.”
“My power has been mostly depleted in the Array setup just now; there’s not enough left to complete a second one.”
Gaheris’s expression darkened immensely.
“Set up the Array, or return the Hart Spirit’s Horn to me!”
Gaheris could tolerate Yebeni being half-hearted, but Yebeni’s repeated desertions in the heat of battle ignited his fury!
“You promised me.”
Yebeni’s eyes narrowed into slits, a gleam shooting from the crevices.
“According to our previous agreement…”
“Bullshit, to hell with the agreement!”
Gareth couldn’t help but curse out loud.
“I take it back. Either set up the Array obediently now.”
“Or drop the item on the ground and get lost!”
He stepped forward, gripping the Battle Axe in his hand tightly.
