Chapter 290 - Chapter 290 Chapter 290 Proxy President
Chapter 290: Chapter 290 Proxy President Chapter 290: Chapter 290 Proxy President “Thank God, we’re finally saved!”
As soon as she got on board, Holly embraced her husband and sobbed loudly; the experiences of the past few days had been like a nightmare to her.
While drifting on the life raft at sea, Holly had controlled her emotions so as not to let her child become too frightened.
Kant refrained from asking about what happened that night; some things could perhaps remain as if they never happened if not mentioned.
Roger didn’t know much about cruise ships, but the yacht they were on was luxuriously decorated and, judging by the crew’s conversations, it seemed not to be open to the public.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is a private yacht, and most of its areas are off-limits. For the next few days, you can only stay in the lower level,”
a burly sailor explained to the group, “You may use the facilities in the common area at will, but the ship’s course is set, and we won’t be stopping on the way.”
The sailor seemed a bit apologetic, “You can only disembark once we reach our destination.”
“There will be rescue personnel to handle the relevant procedures for you at that point.”
“Thank you so much!”
Kant kept nodding his head; his worldview had been shattered by the experiences of the past few days, and he was starting to doubt the reality of this world.
“Could you provide us with some clothes?”
When they boarded the life raft, they had discarded many non-essentials to make room for more food and fresh water on the boat.
After the monster died that night, the wooden structure of the entire ship broke apart completely, and the heavy metal plunged into the water.
After several warnings, everyone went to the lower-level area of the yacht. Although it was the lower level, the space here couldn’t compare to the small boat Kant had been on before.
Besides the dining area and rest quarters, there were even entertainment facilities. Roger obtained a satellite phone and then, separating from the others, returned to his own room.
By his estimation, it had been seven days since he left New Moon City. He had no idea how far the situation in Bordeaux had progressed during this time.
He dialed Henrik’s number, and after a few rings, the call connected.
“Hey, old friend, what’s up with you calling me?”
Henrik’s voice was flippant but familiar through the phone. Before Roger could respond, Henrik continued, “How have you been? Running all over the world lately?”
Roger quickly realized something and kept quiet. Sure enough, Henrik then babbled on about a bunch of nonsense.
After a while, when it seemed to get quieter around him, Henrik’s voice became more hushed through the phone, “Is that you?”
“Henrik.”
“Thank God, you’re still alive!”
Henrik’s voice could not hide his relief, “It’s been so long, where have you gone?”
“I thought something had happened to you.”
“I’m at sea right now, to be honest, I’m not sure of my exact location. How are things over at New Moon City?”
Next, Roger recounted his experience from that day, omitting some of the details to make the story seem plausible.
“Abraham has escaped!”
Henrik’s words carried a tone of frustration, “After leaving that estate, I received a call from Mr. Sean as soon as I returned to Bordeaux City.”
“After we agreed on a strategy, we entered New Moon City as quickly as possible. By that time, the city had already started to become unsettled, with several beams of light shooting up into the sky.”
“It seems like they planned to release something terrible.”
“The black fog!”
Roger thought of everything he had seen in the laboratory.
Henrik nodded, “The pathway you and Dickinson entered into New Moon City was partially destroyed, which affected the integrity of the entire ceremony, buying us crucial time.”
“The entity released by Blake and his people didn’t pass through the portal into reality, but many in New Moon City were still affected.”
“Most died on the spot, while a small number transformed physically into non-human monsters, and they became highly aggressive.”
“Mr. Sean and I found Blake and his group. After a fierce battle, everyone was killed, and Blake was captured.”
“But just then, Abraham suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Mr. Sean engaged him in combat, with Abraham clearly having the upper hand, but he seemed to have no desire to prolong the fight.”
“After bursting into the main hall and seemingly taking something, Mr. Sean chased after him. The two moved so quickly that by the time I caught up, all that was left was a heavily injured Sean.”
“He told me Abraham had hidden a passage, and he escaped New Moon City through that passage. I don’t know what they talked about, but Mr. Xian actually took the initiative to inquire about you.”
Hearing this, Roger’s heart skipped a beat. His identity was a big secret, and if Abraham had set him up before fleeing, Roger would likely face a lot of trouble upon his return to Bordeaux.
“What did he ask?” Roger was curious.
“Your origins, your strength…”
Henrik, however, was not surprised, “You’ve disrupted Abraham’s ceremony, maybe he badmouthed you on purpose.”
But he still cautioned Roger, “Don’t return to Bordeaux for the time being. After the Abraham incident, the whole Hunters Sub-guild needs a cleanup.”
Henrik sighed, “No one knows how many people in the guild were once attached to Abraham. Under these circumstances, as soon as you come back, that guy will know immediately!”
“We’ve found a clue; that guy is probably still in Armenia.”
“Even Mr. Sean was seriously injured; you cannot expect to have that kind of luck a second time. That guy is a real madman, willing to do anything to achieve his goals.”
“Have you contacted anyone else besides me?”
“No.” Roger shook his head. Contacting Henrik was a well-considered decision.
“That’s good.” Henrik breathed a sigh of relief.
“I will keep your secret.”
“Stay in touch.”
“How are Amanda and Adeline doing?”
Just before hanging up, Roger suddenly asked.
“Adeline is all normal, she belongs to a different world from us; nothing that’s happened here has affected her.”
“As for Amanda…”
“I just contacted her not long ago, and she mentioned that, due to the New Moon City incident, their original Awakening Ceremony was forced to halt, from what she implied…”
“Ms. Margaret seems to be preparing to take everyone away from Bordeaux to conduct the Awakening Ceremony elsewhere.”
“They are leaving Bordeaux?”
“Where to?”
Henrik shook his head.
“I’m not sure about the specifics. After a while, when she’s completed the Awakening Ceremony, maybe you can ask her yourself.”
Henrik let out a wry laugh, “If she still wants to see you, that is.”
“Sorceresses can sometimes become aloof after their Awakening.”
“Tsk tsk.”
“You idiot, you had so many opportunities but never made a move…”
Just then, a delicate female voice came through the phone, “Mr. President… Your documents.”
The voice was getting closer, sickeningly sweet.
Henrik laughed heartily, his laughter full of self-satisfaction.
“Ellensa, how many times have I said, I’m only the acting president right now, make sure to get it right next time!”
“Slap.”
A sound, neither too heavy nor too light, rang out.
From the crispness and the feedback, Roger could guess where Henrik had just slapped.
“If you get it wrong again next time, I’ll have to punish you…”
Roger could imagine Henrik’s smug face at that moment.
He bewilderedly moved the phone away from his ear.
“What’s going on?”
