Demon Hunter and His Cabin -
Chapter 286 - Chapter 286 Chapter 286 Statue
Chapter 286: Chapter 286 Statue Chapter 286: Chapter 286 Statue “Kant?”
Hearing this name, Roger was slightly startled as he assessed the man not far away.
Brown, short hair, around 40 years of age, with a strong build; the look in his eyes as he faced Roger was somewhat guarded.
“That’s a good name.”
As he spoke, he raised his right hand, which was cufflinked with a silver-white handcuff on his wrist.
“Can you help me take this off?”
“Who are you?”
The caution in the man’s eyes did not diminish, “When I was changing your clothes, I saw the scars on your body. With that many scars, you’re definitely not an ordinary person.”
“A fugitive or a pirate?”
Roger smiled bitterly, “Would you believe me if I said I was just a hunter?”
“A hunter?” The man clearly did not believe what Roger was saying.
He took a deep breath, “For the safety of my family, until I have completely figured out who you are, I’m afraid I can’t unlock the handcuffs on your hands.”
“Rest assured, Mr. Roger. We won’t deliberately make things difficult for you before we reach the next port. I hope you can understand my approach.”
“All right then.”
Roger appeared quite calm, the coincidence of the name sparked a moment of deja vu which caused a pause in his expression.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Kant.”
Roger lay back down on the bed, he closed his eyes, quietly restoring his mental fatigue.
The man named Kant did not expect Roger to be so composed; he opened his mouth as if to say something but only left some instructions before he left.
“I’ll bring you something to eat; get some rest.”
Roger did not make a sound. He heard the footsteps ascending the stairs, then the door closed tightly.
Glancing at the handcuff hanging on his wrist, Roger thought about it but did not break it off.
His physical condition now far exceeded that of a normal person; a simple handcuff naturally couldn’t restrain him.
However, his body was a mess at this time. The strong recovery ability brought by the demonic bull monster’s spinal fluid had healed the external wounds during his drifting.
But internally, the damage caused by Pale Blood still remained.
“What a mess.”
A sliver of light entered the room through the crack in the cabin window. Roger tried to perform a Temporary Migration, but whether it was because of the ship’s movement or the cooldown time of the Temporary Migration hadn’t expired,
there were no changes in the cabin. Helpless, Roger could only close his eyes and try to meditate.
Kant went to the kitchen, where his wife Holly was preparing lunch. Next to Holly, two children were playfully chattering about something.
His eldest daughter Maggie looked at Kant with curiosity, “Father, has that man woken up?”
It was evident that the prospect of rescuing a stranger at sea intrigued the eldest daughter greatly.
“Prepare some food, I’ll take it to him.”
Kant told his wife, then turned to look at his two children, “That man is dangerous. Do not go near that cabin.”
“He looks rather handsome.”
Maggie, around 16 and in the midst of her teenage years, became even more curious upon hearing her father’s words.
“More handsome than Rand from your school’s football team?”
Katie, the younger daughter, said with a laugh.
Maggie’s face flushed, and she turned back to glare fiercely at her sister, clearly having a special relationship with the young man named Rand.
“I’ve contacted my colleagues at the police station through satellite phone. They’re comparing photos; it won’t be long before we have news.”
Kant comforted his wife. No matter the reason, he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. However, it was still necessary to maintain the appropriate level of caution.
“Did that man really kill a shark?” Maggie asked curiously as she looked at the chunks of meat in the pot.
“How did he do it?”
“That was a shark!”
For girls Maggie’s age, there is a lack of sensitivity to danger; in their eyes, being able to kill a shark is quite cool.
But Kant was different, as a seasoned police officer, he knew better than anyone how difficult such a feat was.
“Go out and play,”
Kant said to the two children.
Once the children had left, Holly stirred the chunks of meat in the pot and glanced at her husband.
“Are you being too tense?”
“It’s rare for our family to have time to go out and play in the last few days of a vacation. Relax a little, don’t make the children feel stressed.”
Kant frowned but didn’t say a word.
Although the man named Roger seemed very cooperative and showed no signs of aggression, Kant couldn’t help but feel an instinctual tremor when facing him.
He knew what it was.
It was fear.
“I hope I’m just overthinking it.”
After speaking, he carried the prepared food away and headed toward the cabin below deck.
Meanwhile, on the deck, the two girls spread their arms, letting the sea breeze blow across their cheeks. The younger daughter, Katie, walked to the bow and patted the statue there.
It was a strange wooden statue, with its arms crossed and facing straight ahead. The green paint that had been applied to the surface of the statue was peeling off due to age, revealing mottled marks.
At a glance, it looked as though the entire face had been smashed.
The two girls played around for a while, then Maggie took out her phone, embraced her sister, and the two of them made faces with the bow in the background and captured the moment with a selfie.
While discussing the best angle for the photo, the two girls failed to notice that in the image, the face of the statue, which should have been turned away from them, was eerily showing half of its face.
The splintered wood grain looked like a scar slashed across the face with a knife!
Vacations are always pleasurable, and the family soon forgot about the incident of rescuing someone. They chatted and took pictures on the deck, enjoying the precious peace.
As night fell, the girls, worn out from playing, hugged each other and fell asleep in their room. The sea breeze was gentle, and the water rippled softly. In the swaying, Holly gave her husband a seductive gesture.
Under the moonlight, this woman, who was only moderately beautiful, seemed enchanting and irresistible. A flame ignited in Kant’s heart, making him yearn to embrace her immediately.
“The kids are still below!”
“They are already asleep.”
Holly moved into Kant’s arms voluntarily, but Kant hesitated for a moment before kissing his wife’s forehead.
“Not tonight.”
“There are other people on the ship.”
Kant remained vigilant.
Holly muttered her dissatisfaction as she left, even giving her husband a quick look over before she walked away.
Kant smiled helplessly, then he went over to check around the cabin where Roger was kept.
He planned to stay up all night.
All was quiet around him, and in the gentle sway of the waves, Kant’s eyelids grew heavier. Overcome by sleepiness, he unwittingly drifted off.
A cool breeze blew, and Kant was suddenly jolted awake in his slumber.
“I can’t believe I fell asleep.”
Kant stood up against the wall, but just then, he heard a strange noise coming from inside the cabin.
Startled, Kant pulled out his pistol and walked down towards the sound!
