Demon Hunter and His Cabin
Chapter 258 - Chapter 258 Chapter 258 Mysterious Fishing Village

Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Mysterious Fishing Village Chapter 258: Chapter 258: Mysterious Fishing Village “A monster?”

Roger’s heart skipped a beat, and he pulled with all his strength. The dilapidated fishing net couldn’t withstand his powerful force and was instantly torn apart. He rolled over onto the boat and swiftly drew his Steel Sword from his back.

“Don’t kill me!”

Seeing him draw his weapon, the small-statured Murloc didn’t attack but quickly backed away, curling into a ball, the greed on its face gone, watching Roger with a face full of terror.

Just then, a tall figure standing next to the little murloc rushed over and shielded it behind him.

He was as tall as an adult, his body no longer resembling a human’s. He was just gaping, unable to utter a word.

“What’s going on?”

The behavior of these two monsters mildly surprised Roger, but he remained on alert, and with his other hand, he dragged Henrik, who had been soaking in water, out.

“Bang!”

A foot stomped on Henrik’s chest, and he vomited a mouthful of seawater before opening his eyes groggily.

“Where are we?”

At first, Henrik’s gaze drifted, but soon he saw the monsters nearby.

“Murlocs?!”

“The smaller one can talk,” Roger added.

“That’s impossible!” Henrik said, surprised.

Murlocs are considered the lowest of monsters. Even at their evolutionary limit, it’s very difficult for them to gain intelligence close to that of a human, let alone speak.

“Where are we?”

Roger looked back, and the distant fishing village appeared and disappeared faintly resembling the one he had visited before.

But he didn’t ponder over it too much. Seaside fishing villages mostly look the same, so some resemblance was normal.

“So this is the village…”

The little murloc hiding behind widened its eyes, and its large eyes filled with tears.

Gurgle gurgle.

As it was speaking, a strange sound came from its stomach, clearly having not eaten for a long time.

“Could this be a Murloc village?”

Roger was somewhat puzzled, but Henrik pulled out his pistol and casually fired a shot at the edge of the wooden boat. The loud noise frightened the little murloc into trembling, but the tall figure in front of it protected the little murloc even more tightly.

“Who is he to you?” asked Henrik.

“He’s my father,” the murloc replied.

“Can’t speak?” Henrik looked curious.

“People in the village caught a strange illness; we began to grow scales on our bodies, and our teeth became sharp and pointed…”

“It started with the adults, and then little by little, everyone in the village changed into this state. Now, apart from a few children and elderly, none of the adults can speak anymore.”

The little murloc looked fearfully at Henrik.

“Some even gradually lost their sanity, becoming like monsters.”

Henrik and Roger exchanged glances, seeing the astonishment in each other’s eyes.

“Is there a curse or a spell that can turn ordinary people into monsters?” Roger asked.

Henrik nodded.

“There are, but to do that to an entire village…”

“It’s too hard, and there’s absolutely no need,” he continued.

He shifted the aim of his gun slightly, pointing it at the tall figure standing in front of the little murloc.

“I know you can understand us. Row the boat, take us back!”

The tall figure struggled for a moment, but considering the gun in Henrik’s hand and thinking about the power of the weapon just displayed, he could only nod in agreement.

The distance from here to the fishing village was not far, and they soon approached the shore.

The sandy beach was soft, but the surroundings were extremely dilapidated. The village was dead quiet, not a single person in sight.

Just as they entered the fishing village, suddenly a figure clad in hemp dashed out from behind a house, holding a gleaming fish spear, and thrust it toward Roger from behind.

“Ah!”

The little murloc let out a cry of alarm. Roger, of course, had already noticed the sneaking figure and spun around to kick the fish spear away; he then stepped forward and rammed his knee into the chest of the assailant.

“Bang!”

The steel spear flew from the attacker’s hands, and the figure was slammed against a nearby wall, revealing blue skin beneath the torn hemp clothes.

With a whoosh, many figures sprung out from the surroundings, all clad in different attire–some clothed, others bare-skinned–tall and short, fat and thin, men, women, both old and young.

Some were armed with sticks, others with fish spears, encircling the four of them, their faces etched with fierce caution.

“Don’t attack. He hasn’t hurt us!”

The little murloc shouted loudly.

“Strangers, spare my villagers and leave this place!”

“We can’t let them go. If those city folks find out that we’ve contracted this strange disease, they’ll send hunters to kill us all!”

Another voice said.

The crowd parted, and two elderly men, one taller than the other, appeared before Roger.

Compared to the others around them, their changes were subtle, with only their skin slightly bluish and the rest of their bodies showing few abnormalities.

“You mentioned the villagers are suffering from a strange disease, when did this happen?”

“Do people in New Moon City not know?”

Roger asked, slightly puzzled.

“It’s been a long time, but it’s been getting worse lately. Many in the village can’t even speak anymore.”

One of the tall elders, after seeing the person Roger had just kicked down struggling to get up, his expression softened a bit.

He sighed deeply, “Disaster is about to descend and as for New Moon City, the situation there might not be much better than here; the entire city is under martial law.”

“Entry is allowed but not exit. Months ago, there were rumors that the city’s inhabitants had also contracted a strange disease, with many transforming into monsters.”

“From day to night, people are attacked at any moment, carnage unfolds every second, and the city is filled with the smell of blood. No one dares to walk the streets anymore.”

“What are you saying?”

Henrik looked baffled, “People in New Moon City have contracted a strange disease and there are also monsters rampant?”

“How is that possible?”

Considering the time, it hadn’t been more than a day since he and Roger left New Moon City, and even if something drastic had happened, the news couldn’t have reached them yet.

Furthermore, what this elder was talking about seemed to have occurred at least several months ago.

But when he and Roger had left, New Moon City had been a model of order.

An anomaly in time?

“We have no reason to lie to you about this.”

The shorter elder scrutinized Roger and Henrik, “It looks like you two came from elsewhere.”

His gaze lingered on Roger for a moment, “You seem to be a local, have you just returned to your hometown recently?”

“If I were you, I’d leave this land as soon as possible.”

“The entire region is cursed.”

“It has been said over and over, that disaster is imminent.”

“I’ve said all I can. Now, can we let our villagers go?”

Henrik had never encountered such a situation before, he glanced at Roger and understood the meaning in his eyes.

“How far is it from here to New Moon City?”

The elder pointed towards a dirt path at the entrance of the village, “Follow this road north, and in just over a day, you’ll see New Moon City.”

“But I really wouldn’t recommend going there.”

“Because once you enter that city, you can never leave.”

Releasing the little murloc and his father, Roger and Henrik backed away, and the surrounding folk also remained vigilant.

But just as the two of them retreated to the entrance of the village, a guttural roar erupted, and the murloc who had attacked Roger suddenly turned frantic, toppling an elderly man to the ground.

His mouth opened wide, biting towards the other’s neck!
