Defying the Rogue Alpha
Chapter 95: Rage

Chapter 95: Rage

Sarah paced in her bedroom for what felt like the hundredth time. She had been trying to see him for days now and not once had Lucas responded. No messages, no summons.

She tossed her long, perfectly styled hair over her shoulder, nostrils flaring. What the fuck was wrong with him?

Was he still pining over that stupid bitch?

The thought made her stomach churn with rage. Ava was gone. Lucas should be moving on, preferably into her bed where he belonged.

Sarah let out an exaggerated sigh and stomped towards the door.

When she reached Dorian’s office, she didn’t bother knocking. She shoved the door open, making an entrance as dramatic as she could manage.

Dorian looked up from his desk with a scowl, dark circles under his eyes. The man looked rough, his usually pristine suit wrinkled, his hands resting on an almost-empty glass of whiskey.

"I have been trying to see the Alpha for days now," she began, crossing her arms. "He has been ignoring me. You need to do something!"

Dorian inhaled sharply. "I lost my son, Sarah. Not once have you said anything to me about it. The first thing out of your mouth is that you need my help?"

She opened her mouth, then closed it, as if maybe she should show an ounce of sympathy. But then she shrugged. "I am sorry for your loss," she said, the words hollow. "But remember, you still have to make me Luna."

Dorian let out a slow, incredulous laugh, shaking his head. "Sarah." He leaned forward. "At no point in time did I ever say you were going to become Luna."

Sarah’s eyes widened. "Excuse me?"

"The only thing we both wanted," Dorian continued, "was Ava gone."

He swirled his whiskey lazily, watching the liquid move. "Lucas doesn’t need a Luna," he added. "He just needs sluts like you to keep his bed warm."

Sarah’s stomach dropped.

Her hands clenched into fists.

For a second, just a second, she thought she had misheard him. But the smug look on Dorian’s face told her that she had heard just fine.

Rage boiled inside her.

"What the fuck did you just say?" she hissed.

Dorian smiled.

"You heard me."

"You will make sure I become Luna," she snapped. "Or I will reveal everything you have done."

Dorian’s expression darkened instantly.

He shot up from his chair so fast she took an involuntary step back.

"You mean," he said, "everything we have done."

His eyes flashed dangerously. "Don’t forget, Sarah," he snarled. "We are both in this. One cannot go down without the other. You cannot threaten me." His lip curled. "You will burn."

Sarah glared at him for a long, simmering moment, but her mind was already working, already calculating. If Dorian wasn’t going to help her, she would take matters into her own hands.

Without another word, she turned on her heel and stormed out.

Lucas had just stepped out of his office when he saw her.

Sarah plastered on her most seductive smile.

"Alpha," she purred.

Lucas turned to her. "Sarah," he said smoothly, his eyes scanning her up and down. "How have you been?"

Sarah’s chest swelled with satisfaction.

"I’m fine now," she said sweetly. "I sent you a couple of messages about coming to spend the night with you."

Lucas tilted his head as if he was just now remembering. "Ah. Right. I was hoping to fix that for this weekend," Lucas said, offering her a small smile. "Things have just been a bit hectic, you know?"

Sarah brightened. This was good. He was busy, but not rejecting her.

"But this weekend," Lucas continued smoothly. "I am all yours."

Sarah glowed. She reached out, brushing her fingers over his arm. "Splendid."

Lucas’s lips curled into a smile.

A completely fake, bullshit smile.

Sarah didn’t notice.

She was too busy fantasizing about what this weekend would look like. About all the ways she would remind him why she was so much better than Ava.

Dennis and Missy stood at the main gate, their expressions carved from stone, their eyes sharp as daggers as they glared at the approaching gammas. Dennis’s arms were crossed over his broad chest, his entire stance radiating intimidation. He didn’t even need to speak. His sheer presence alone was enough to send most men running for cover.

But these were Lucas’s gammas. And if they were here, then that meant only one thing, Lucas knows she was here too. He knows his mate had strayed into Dennis’s lands.

The same woman who had been doing things to Dennis that he couldn’t quite understand, things that made his blood boil and his thoughts scatter. He was a warrior, a Raventhorn. He didn’t do complicated emotions. But ever since she entered his life, his head had been a fucking mess.

Missy had a simple explanation for it. "It’s the magic of her powers," she had said. "She’s drawing the most dominant male around to her."

Dennis had laughed in her face. What kind of bullshit was that?

He’d never heard of anything so ridiculous in his life.

And yet... What if it was true?

Did the same thing happen with Lucas? How many other powerful wolves had she bewitched like this? Was she just walking around, unknowingly collecting a fan club of enchanted men who would fight to the death for her?

How many men were on her tail?

He was not some lovesick puppy. He was not some helpless fool caught in the throes of magic or fate or whatever-the-hell-else Missy wanted to call it. He was Dennis fucking Raventhorn, and he was not going to let some tiny, brown eyed woman turn him inside out.

And yet. He could not stop thinking about that night.

The night he had helped her through her heat.

The way her scent had filled the air, intoxicating and heavy, drowning out all logic, all sense. The way her body had trembled, the delicious sounds that had fallen from her lips, her fingers clutching at her hidden flesh.

He had only meant to help her.

To be a prop, a stabilizing force.

But he had wanted so much more.

He had wanted to wreck her. To claim her. To take that magic of hers and fuck it right out of her body until there was nothing left but him.

And now, even here, standing at the gates with potential battle looming, he could feel his cock twitching in his pants at the memory.

Pathetic. He needed to get a grip.

Movement in the distance pulled him from his thoughts.

Nolan stepped forward, stopping a few feet away from the gate. The rest of the gammas hung back, their hands resting at their sides, tense but non-threatening.

Dennis knew Nolan well enough. The man was a good soldier, staunchly loyal to Lucas, always playing by the book.

"Nolan," Dennis greeted.

Nolan inclined his head slightly, just enough to acknowledge Dennis’s dominance but not enough to betray his own loyalty. "Dennis," he returned.

"Long time no see," Dennis added.

Nolan exhaled. "I wish it was under better circumstances." His voice was grim, steady.

Dennis’s eyes flicked over his shoulder, scanning the gammas. "I see you’re leading the charge today. Where’s Kade?"
