Defying the Rogue Alpha -
Chapter 128: Council
Chapter 128: Council
Lucas stopped in his tracks and turned to her, cupping her face gently with both hands. "You scared the hell out of me back there. But that was amazing!"
"Do you think the council will really try to take you down?" she asked finally.
"I don’t care about that. We are taking the fight to the monster, sweetie. You got absolutely nothing to worry about," Lucas growled. ’I’ve already seen the battlefield in my mind and I’ve painted it red.’
Ava, however, wasn’t swept away by the poetry of bloodlust. Not entirely. She reached out and placed a hand on his chest, where his heart beat like a war drum beneath her fingers. "Lucas... you cannot worry about me only," she said softly. "You have to worry about Zoe too. She’s part of this fight, like it or not. Let’s think things through, love. We can’t let her suffer for the wrong moves we make."
Lucas’s jaw ticked. He hated when she made sense. "I’m taking the Alpha King down, my little virgin," he muttered, the nickname still managing to make her blush despite the gravity of the conversation. "And I will make him watch as I burn everything he values to the ground. Every last bloody piece."
Ava’s heart swam with pride. Pride and just a touch of arousal. She wouldn’t say it out loud, not now, but there was something incredibly hot about watching her mate talk about total annihilation with such poetic passion.
"Come on. Let’s get you home," Lucas said, his mood softening as he laced his fingers with hers. That simple act—his massive hand enclosing hers so tenderly—somehow steadied her soul more than any war plan could.

Dennis hadn’t stepped foot in the fortress in over a decade. Now that he was here, he remembered what life had been like before he’d walked away from it all to become the rogue alpha.
Lucas had always been the brave one. The cocky one. Lucas had feared nothing. But the voice Dennis had heard on the phone wasn’t the Lucas he knew. That voice had trembled with fear—not for himself, but for Ava. That kind of fear... it changed a man.
As Dennis strode through the corridors of the fortress, he caught the stares. The gasps. The triple-takes. At first, he thought he had something on his shirt. Then he realized—oh. Right. The face.
He looked exactly like Lucas. Minus the permanent scowl.
The looks ranged from awe to confusion to maybe a few lusty sighs. He honestly couldn’t tell if they admired him for being a living clone of their infamous alpha... or if his rugged rogue aura was doing the heavy lifting.
Dennis stepped into Lucas’s office and froze. The place looked like a hurricane had dinner in there. Papers were shredded across the floor, chairs were upturned, the desk had a deep claw mark running across it, and the once-impressive shelf now lay in a mournful pile of broken wood.
"What the fuck happened here?" Dennis asked, eyebrows climbing high into his hairline.
Lucas didn’t even look up. He was slouched on the blood-red velvet sofa, one leg sprawled over the armrest, shirt half unbuttoned, chest rising and falling.
"I needed to break something," Lucas said flatly, holding up a half-shattered tumbler still sloshing with whiskey. "So I did."
Dennis surveyed the warzone. "What happened?"
Lucas finally lifted his gaze. His eyes were bloodshot and furious. "The High Council are scum. That’s what happened."
Dennis gave a low whistle, stepping over a destroyed table leg. "So... I’m guessing your little trip didn’t go so well?"
Lucas snorted and took another swig. "It didn’t go well at all, brother."
Dennis tilted his head, looking for a spot safe enough to plant himself that didn’t involve potential tetanus. He finally chose the very edge of an upturned chair and perched.
"What did they say?"
Lucas let out a humorless laugh and hurled the glass at the wall. "They think I’m more dangerous than the Alpha King with Ava’s powers."
Dennis scratched his jaw, trying not to wince at that. "Hmmm... I mean... you do have the reputation."
Lucas glared at him like he might be next on the destruction list.
"Not the point," Dennis backtracked quickly. "Just... context."
Lucas stood up suddenly. "Need I remind you that both Ava and Zoe are in danger?"
Dennis held up his hands in surrender. "I’m with you. I’m just saying, the council’s already afraid of your shadow. Toss in a supernatural mate with enough lunar power to spank the moon itself, and you’ve got their knickers in a twist."
Lucas stalked to the window, arms crossed, jaw grinding. "We can’t wait. We confront him—the Alpha King. He needs to know exactly which wolf he decided to poke."
"So we send him a message. Feel him out. Let him know both women are under our protection. Make it clear crossing that line will cost him dearly."
Lucas nodded slowly, the beginnings of a plan forming behind his stormy gaze.
Dennis crossed his arms. "But if he continues on his lunatic quest... you think we can take him?"
Lucas looked over his shoulder. "It means you have to train your rogues, Dennis."
Dennis stiffened slightly. "Yeah... that."
Lucas narrowed his eyes. "But the question is, will they fight for you?"
"I have to speak with them," Dennis said. "I cannot force them to fight. It has to be voluntary. But I know them well enough to know... they’ll fight for me."
There was no arrogance in his tone, just a quiet certainty. The kind that came from pain, from exile, from nights spent earning loyalty the hard way—bleeding beside those who had nothing left to believe in except the man who led them.
Lucas nodded, leaning back against the desk he hadn’t finished destroying. "I know my soldiers will lay down their lives for their Luna," he muttered. "I think they’re all more loyal to her than they are to me. They’d probably take a silver bullet for her just to see her smile."
"She is still not your Luna officially," Dennis added pointedly.
Lucas let out a slow breath. "That’s just a formality," he said. "She is Luna."
"Lucas," Dennis said, brows arching. "You never did like following tradition. But this? This matters. Do the right thing. Properly mate her. Hold the Luna ceremony. Stop pretending like it’s just a title."
Lucas didn’t speak for a moment. He stared out the shattered window, wind curling through the broken glass. Ava deserved better than this chaos. She deserved a crown.
He nodded finally. "You’re right."
Dennis blinked. "Say that again?"
