Death… And Me -
Chapter 3588: FINE!
Chapter 3588: FINE!
"Shut up and feed the damn platforms!" Roan shouted, and everyone sprung into action.
The platforms shone brighter, and the giant sphere’s gray energy increased. It felt weird, though. They could tell that not all energy was used in its movement, only part of it. They couldn’t help but wonder what was the rest of the energy used for. Nonetheless, the speed increased three times, and the group began to run from the wave... or so it looked like a first.
"Shonror, you fucker! Are you holding back now?" Sesahi shouted at the Spirit on another platform. Shonror’s platform shield wasn’t as bright as the others, showing he wasn’t putting as much energy inside.
Shonror snorted. "So what? You will come after me?" Indeed, he did try to hold back to save energy at that moment. He still couldn’t bring himself to trust the rest, so he preferred to at least guarantee he had the energy to spend if things went south and he had to run on his own. "Besides, we are fast enough, so just shut up and continue."
Sesahi wasn’t that nice. "Ha! Keep dreaming!" not only Sesahi but her entire group reduced the amount of Divine Energy they sent into their platforms. They all matched the amount Shonror did.
On the other hand, Shonror’s group followed suit, and they, too, reduced the amount they poured inside. Sesahi and Shonror might be kind of leaders of their groups, but they weren’t their bosses. The others definitely wouldn’t sacrifice themselves for those two. They also came here to look for a way to break through into the Celestial Realm, after all.
Meconth and the twins’ groups cursed. The sphere was now just twice as fast, and the wave began to catch them. "If you idiots continue with this bullshit, we will all die. Look, the wave is coming!"
Yet, neither Sesahi nor Shonror’s group relented. They didn’t want to be the ones spending more energy than the other.
Seeing that their words didn’t help, Roan passed the order to his own group. "Alright, all of you, stop as well. Just feed the bare minimum to the platforms."
"What?!" Rean and the others got confused. "If we do that, the wave will catch us in no time."
Roan knew that. "It will catch us regardless. Since that will happen, we might as well save our energies. Kentucky, prepare to fly."
"You are kidding, right?" Kentucky wanted to cry. "Gravity is still too high! Even if I flap my wings with all my strength, I won’t be able to keep us in the air for long. I will have to use all my Divine Energy just to keep us airborne. I should be able to fly faster than the wave, though."
"You there!" Shonror shouted at the twins’ group. "Who said you could stop feeding the platforms? Resume your work immediately, or I swear the first thing I do when this wave catches up to us is kill you all."
"Hahaha!" Roan laughed out loud. Even he couldn’t help but find it ridiculous. "Then why wait? Come, come! I’m right here! Why don’t you give it a try and kill me now? I’m very much eager to see you attempt that." Since the other part had no intention to help, Roan had no intention to spare that spirit’s life either.
"You!" Shonror felt like doing exactly that right now.
Meconth’s group, without another choice, saw themselves forced to reduce the amount of Divine Energy they poured into the platform. Now, the platform was back to its normal speed, and it wouldn’t take more than a minute for that enormous wave of molten metal to reach them. "Prepare to abandon ship. Caio, I’ll be counting on you to create a path for us on the Molten Metal’s surface. The rest of us will protect you from the heat and Yang Energy."
Caio, also a Spirit but this time from Universe F949, nodded. He seemed to have an ability that would allow them to walk over the molten ocean, although he didn’t tell anyone what it was.
Everyone braced themselves for the moment they would all jump out of the platforms and have to fend for themselves in the midst of the molten ocean. So much for a team effort, which was obviously what this place was meant for...
Yet, things didn’t play as everyone initally thought.
"Fuck it!" With the wave getting closer, Shonror decided he might as well jump ship now to give himself extra time. He completely stopped supplying Divine Energy to the platform and attacked the shield.
Sure enough, the almost ten thousand degrees heat quickly crashed against his core, and the Yang Energy assaulted him without mercy. Shonror obviously used his Divine Energy to protect himself against both issues, trying to run right after. However...
*Bang!*
His core slammed into an invisible wall, preventing him from leaving the platform at all. He wasn’t the only one. The others, including the twins’ group, noticed the same thing.
The barrier that protected them from the elements and yang energy was gone, but the invisible barrier that no one knew existed before was there. No, that wasn’t correct. The invisible barrier wasn’t preventing them from leaving the platforms. Instead, it was preventing them from leaving the range of the giant sphere! They could even change platforms at the moment if they felt like it, but they couldn’t get away from the sphere itself.
"We can’t leave, damn it!" Shonror cursed. The invisible barrier wasn’t there before. Why did it have to appear now?
Of course, anyone could guess why. It was the energy they provided to the sphere that created it. Now they know where the extra energy it kept inside was being used for. If they want it to disappear, they will have to wait for the sphere’s energy to run out. Unfortunately, it was brimming from all the energy they gave it so far, and it definitely wouldn’t go empty for at least a few hours. Breaking it was out of the question. They tried, but they weren’t anywhere near strong enough to even scratch the sphere. That made everyone even angrier. Why doesn’t the fucking sphere simply use all that energy to make them move faster?
Since everyone stopped to provide energy to the platforms, the sphere came to a halt, and now the giant wave would catch them in fifteen seconds at most.
"Quick, back to the platforms!" Shonror shouted, and he returned to his own. There was no way he could survive if they didn’t do that.
Everyone did the same... but no one did anything. Every single expert there looked straight at Shonror.
"What are you waiting for?! Feed the fucking platforms!"
"No one will do shit!" Meconth snorted. "At least not until you show us you have no intention of holding back anymore. No one here will work to keep your bitch ass alive."
Even now, Shonror didn’t want to use his energy. But he looked at the wave and the adamant expression on everyone’s faces. Could it be the others had some way to survive? Well, he definitely didn’t if he couldn’t run. "FUCK! FINE!"
