Death… And Me
Chapter 3572: Useless

Chapter 3572: Useless

Further ahead, the twins arrived at a big room, coming out of the previous corridor. It was dark, and they had to use Rean’s Light Element to illuminate the surroundings. Just like before, broken traps and even runes could be seen, showing that formations were used to protect this place in the past.

*Zim!*

Suddenly, a blade came flying in the group’s direction. It flew at their waist height, aiming to split its target in two. Yet, Roan narrowed his eyes, closing his fists.

*Bang!*

He did a small jump and punched the blade on its surface!

*Dum!*

The blade penetrated the ground for a moment. Yet, many runes lit up on it, and it got itself out of the ground on its own before shooting in someone else’s direction. This time, it went after Kentucky.

Kentucky snorted, though. His feathers immediately turned into Feather Blades, and the scales behind hardened.

*Bang!*

Kentucky stopped the blade with his bare chest, and now he could see that it looked like those blades used on pendulum traps. Then, he flapped his wings and stepped back before raising his feet and striking the blade with his tallons.

*Bang!*

The blade once again penetrated the ground, but this time, it didn’t matter how much energy those runes on the blade used; the blade simply couldn’t come out of the ground as Kentucky kept pressing it. Surprisingly, that was the only blade there. No others appeared, so Kentucky didn’t move.

Rean approached the blade, taking a look at its runes. He smiled, touching a few of the runes on the blade, and then causing it to turn off. The blade lost its power, and Kentucky finally let it go. "Most of the runes operating this thing were already on the verge of breaking down. Even if Kentucky hadn’t stopped it, I doubt it would have been able to attack more than once or twice before stopping completely."

Roan checked around and saw several more openings on the walls like the one from which the blade came. Getting closer, the ball of light in his hand illuminated the insides of one of those openings, and he saw another blade there. Some runes were active on the blade, but because most of them had worn out over the years, just those few operating ones weren’t enough for the blade to work like it was designed.

He looked at the various other blades on the ground everywhere. Quite a lot of them were used in the past, so there weren’t many that hadn’t been activated yet. In the end, only one seemed to have runes good enough to work as intended, although very poorly.

"There seem to be a few ones that still work, but nothing really dangerous for us," Rean commented, checking the other openings.

Roan wasn’t as certain. "It’s not that they aren’t dangerous, but that they are too old. You saw the runes on that last one. If all Runes were working, how strong do you think it would be?"

Rean pondered a bit, checking the broken runes on the blade. "Well, much stronger indeed. Kentucky definitely wouldn’t be able to stop it with just the defense of his body alone. And considering there would be many more of them, it would be at least annoying to deal with."

Elsie took a deep breath. "If they would be annoying to the likes of you, then they were definitely a nightmare to anyone who tasted them for the first time in the past." She knew that probably there wasn’t a single expert in this entire excursion of several Universes who could match the twins’ members in a one-on-one. Of course, except Rifindio, but he wasn’t too weak either. Their annoying would be much more to anyone else.

*Ding!*

It was then that Elsie felt something from her Spatial Ring, and she quickly took a piece of stone out. "This!"

Before anyone could ask anything, Elsie darted ahead, ignoring everything. The twins’ group saw that, and they followed behind. There was no way Elsie could be faster than them in this place. She wasn’t already back outside the Golden Palace when cultivation wasn’t suppressed.

Elsie passed through the corridors, and different paths appeared one after another. Yet, she watched her stone, and the sensation she got from it told her which direction to take.

"Hey, calm down..." Rean appeared by her side, running leisurely while Elsie seemed to be going all out with her movements. "There might be more traps, and it is not guaranteed all of them are in bad shape like the one back there."

"Shut up!" Elsie ignored and continued to run like her life depended on it.

Rean turned to Roan and the others, and they just nodded. They said it before. If Elsie wanted to leave at some point during this exploration, she could leave. They wouldn’t stop her. Still, they didn’t know anything about this place, and she seemed to at least know where to go, so they followed her while keeping an eye out. If anything, Roan was more than happy that someone was idiot enough to take the front and brave the dangers ahead of them.

*Bzzzzz!*

Suddenly, a bunch of old runes lit up right under Elsie as she passed running over them. Light Element stored in those runes cracked, and a bolt of lightning came down from the ceiling.

It was too fast, and Elsie had no time to dodge.

*Kabrum!*

Elsie braced herself, but the lightning didn’t touch her in the end. She only felt the shockwave caused by a blast of Divine Origin Energy, and her body projection was thrown to the ground. Looking at where she was a moment ago, an Elemental Intent Sword hovered, its Bright Red Lightning acting as a Lightning Rod that absorbed the Lightning from the trap.

"WOW!" Rean was surprised. "The Major Law of Lightning, incredible! The guys who created this trap could even make the trap use Major Laws!"

Well, it was all meaningless. The trap, just like the ones before, had aged quite a lot, so it wasn’t as powerful as it could have been. Elsie understood it, but the lightning just now definitely had enough power to cause some damage to her, pretty bad ones perhaps.

Nonetheless, she ignored the danger and shot forward once again.

Rean didn’t try to stop her. Their group only followed, and they helped her avoid a few more traps that were still alive. It started to get pretty common to see things using Major Laws in this place.

Then, Elsie stopped in her tracks. They were in a corridor, and in front of them, a huge trench so deep they couldn’t see the bottom, even with Divine Sense, prevented them from going forward. They couldn’t fly, including Kentucky, and the other side of the trench was just too far to attempt to jump with such a huge gravity.

Roan didn’t need to see much to understand. "Someone activated this pitfall trap a long time ago. Look at the joints on the sides. There was a place to step before."

Elsie didn’t seem to care about that. However, she also didn’t try to cross the trench. Instead, she looked at the stone on her hand and felt it was telling her to go down. Whatever she was looking for was very close. Suddenly...

"USELESS OLD GEEZERRRRRR!!!"

She shouted downwards, fueling her voice with her Divine Energy.

The twins’ group looked at each other, confused. Was she looking for someone? Here?

Surprisingly, an answer really came out from that trench.

"FUCK YOU, ELSIE!!!" It felt more like an automatic response, though. "No, wait! Elsie? Is that you?!"

Elsie was ecstatic. She finally found what she was looking for. "It’s my master! He really survived!"

The twins’ group was even more surprised. I wasn’t like they hadn’t researched the opening of the Celestial Supreme Palace before coming. As far as the information goes, once it closes, anyone inside never comes back, and everyone believes they die. That’s especially true since the Soul Flames left by the experts who didn’t come out of the Golden Palace always extinguish. Yet, there did seem to be someone alive down there... and he was Elsie’s master? There was definitely more to that story!
