Chapter 323: 164. School Trip (13)_2
"Thank you, Yuzao, but there’s no need."
"Why not?"
"I like to be alone."
"Okay then." Yuzao Haomei pursed her lips, stirring her miso soup without much appetite.
Ichiki Aoi had originally wanted to invite Kiyono Lin to go find Mayi but seeing Yuzao Haomei defeated so quickly, she immediately lost the courage to speak up.
Yesterday was the school’s scheduled group activities, but today they were free to do as they wished, without reason.
Ichiki Aoi and Yuzao Haomei were talking about last night’s ghost stories when someone came over.
"Good morning, Mr. Kiyono." The person sat down right next to Kiyono Lin.
’Right next to’ meant precisely that, though he managed not to make physical contact.
Ichiki Aoi watched as Kiyono Lin said with a disgusted face, "You smell like sweat, please stay away from me, Mr. Dubian."
"Exactly!" Yuzao Haomei exaggeratedly pinched her nose.
Ichiki Aoi discreetly sniffed; there was a slight smell of sweat, but no bad odor, and the thought that it came from the good-looking Mr. Dubian, she didn’t feel repulsed at all.
"Did you go for a run, Mr. Dubian?" she asked out of curiosity.
"Yeah, I have a habit of running in the morning," Dubian Che replied, sipping his miso soup.
"You even run during the school trip?"
"If I can keep up my running during a school trip, what can’t I do—I motivate myself like that."
"What can’t you do? Like, for instance, take a shower after you run," Kiyono Lin reminded him with a cold voice.
"I was afraid you’d be gone by the time I finish showering. Huh? How come this grilled fish isn’t as good as yesterday’s?" Dubian Che quickly ate up the grilled fish and said, "I’m going to Uji later, to visit the Wind Instrument Club at North Uji. You’re coming with me."
"I’m not going," Kiyono Lin said, nibbling on her fish cake.
"Why?"
"Why should I be asking you the question? I want to take a walk by myself, go see the Philosophy Path."
"Forget about it, come with me to North Uji."
"Why should I?"
"Chisako invited me to visit her school. It wouldn’t look good for me, a guy, to go see Chisako and Sahui alone. It can’t be avoided even if I bring a guy along; you’re the only girl who could accompany me, I beg you, Dora A Lin."
As the two of them took turns speaking, Ichiki Aoi and Yuzao Haomei had no chance to interject.
This was the first time they had seen someone talk to Mr. Kiyono like this.
Surely, the two of them didn’t interact much even during Wind Instrument Club times.
After taking a sip of her miso soup and placing the bowl down properly, Kiyono Lin leisurely said to Dubian Che, "I’ve heard that Uji has the most authentic matcha..."
"I’ll treat you!"
"Train fare..."
"It’s on me!"
Kiyono Lin nodded lightly, "Then I’ll take pity on you this once, seeing as you’re a member of my club. I’ll reluctantly accompany you."
"That’s settled then!" Dubian Che finished his meal, stood up with his tray, "Wait for me, I’m going to shower and change my clothes."
Watching him leave, Yuzao Haomei turned to Kiyono Lin: "What about the Philosophy Path?"
"Although matcha came from China, there’s a saying that the ’world’s matcha is in Island Country, and the matcha of Island Country is in Uji.’ I’d rather try what’s known to be the most authentic matcha than the Philosophy Path in autumn."
Ichiki Aoi didn’t quite catch on and followed up with a question, "Didn’t you say you liked being alone..."
"Yes, I like being alone, but that doesn’t mean I’m opposed to going with others."
Yuzao Haomei asked, puzzled, "What about the Philosophy Path in autumn?"
"I like cherry blossoms." Kiyono Lin decided not to eat the unsavory grilled fish, saving room for matcha.
Having heard that there are two famous matcha shops in Uji—’Nakamura Fugosuke’ and ’Ito Kyuemon’—which one should she go to?
After Dubian Che showered, he didn’t put on casual clothes but changed into the Goda High School uniform—a white shirt and a black suit jacket, without a tie and with the jacket unbuttoned.
"Let’s go."
"Yeah."
On the way to the train, Dubian Che noticed that Kiyono Lin was constantly looking at her phone, a habit she never had before.
"What are you looking at?"
"An app. Yuzao recommended it to me yesterday. You can search for good food on it, see restaurant rankings, read customer reviews, and even book a dining time."
Dubian Che wasn’t sure if he had misheard, but he felt that Kiyono was almost boasting when she mentioned the app.
"You don’t think I don’t know about this app, do you?" he asked cautiously.
Kiyono Lin’s expression turned cold, "You know about it?"
"I don’t. Dear Mr. Kiyono, please show me where to download it." Dubian Che took out his phone.
Unfortunately for him, Kiyono Lin never paid much attention to what people said, and the chill emanating from her grew colder.
They took the ’East-West Line’ first, then transferred to the ’Nara Line,’ and after a two-hour shake and rattle, they arrived at Uji City.
Compared to the Capital City, there were significantly fewer tourists in Uji.
This quaint little city, where mountains are visible everywhere, was particularly serene.
"It’s so quiet here," Dubian Che remarked after looking around.
"I much prefer this to crowded tourist spots," Kiyono Lin said with an air of appreciation.
The sky was a brilliant blue, and the clouds lazily drifted by.
Under the sleepy sunlight, the two walked down a lush, clean, and quiet street.
"How about we start with some matcha? I’ve agreed to meet Chisako at their school at noon."
"Sure." Kiyono Lin said, "Nakamura Fugosuke’s flagship store is nearby, let’s go there."
"Lead the way." Dubian Che gestured grandly with his hand.
They crossed a zebra crossing without traffic lights and entered a quaint alley; they proceeded into a traditional Japanese
