Chapter 316: 162. School Trip (11)
"Bathing?"
Mayi Asuka shook her head gently, the sash of her yukata tied around her waist, "I want to take Che’s scent back with me."
After seeing off Mayi Asuka, Dubian Che took a cola from the mini-fridge and spilled it on the tatami of the Japanese-style room.
He called the front desk.
"Yes, I accidentally spilled something. Could you please help me change it? If there are any extra charges, just add them to the room bill."
The person on the phone replied with a gentle Capital City accent, promising to send someone to change it immediately.
Dubian Che disliked being present when staff changed things, so he decided to go out for a walk.
After a quick shower in the en-suite bathroom, he changed into his casual clothes, grabbed "The Little Prince," left the windows wide open, and left the room.
Stepping out of East Mountain Villa and onto the cobblestone path, he merged with the bustling crowd.
After declining a few attempts at conversation, he entered a quiet and elegant coffee shop, ordered a cup, and sat by the window to read. Occasionally, he stared off into the distance at the lively ancient street, daydreaming.
He had gone over the book three times before returning.
The next morning, Dubian Che attempted to smooth down his stubborn hair with his hands as he entered the spacious tatami dining room.
Everyone sat on the tatami, enjoying a fragrant breakfast.
Seating was casual, most were the group members he would be moving with today.
"Good morning, Kiyono."
"Good morning," Kiyono Lin responded indifferently, picking up some vegetable salad into her bowl without giving Dubian Che a glance.
Just thinking about how Dubian Che had watched pay-per-view movies last night in his room, and then talked to her while doing that kind of thing, she momentarily didn’t want to deal with him.
"Didn’t sleep well last night? Did you dream about me?"
"What are you saying?!" Across from Kiyono Lin, Yuzao Haomei’s pretty face was filled with displeasure as she looked at him.
"If you aren’t going to use your ears, you could donate them to someone who needs them," Dubian Che replied, mimicking Kiyono Lin’s tone.
"Dubian Che," Kiyono Lin lifted her head.
"Sorry, we can talk later, I’m starving," Dubian Che sat down about three people’s distance away from them.
Breakfast consisted of vegetable salad, grilled willow leaf fish, cold pork dishes, and miso soup made with daikon and fried tofu.
Dubian Che sipped the miso soup, found it tasty, took another small sip, then picked up some meat from the grilled willow leaf fish.
"Senior, where did you go last night?" As he was eating, he overheard Ichiki Aoi’s voice.
"...Went shopping," came Mayi Asuka’s indifferent reply.
"Alone?"
"...Yeah."
"Why didn’t you call me? I wanted to go out with Kiyono yesterday, too, and even went looking for you, senior!"
"...I wanted some time alone."
"Senior, we are planning to go to..."
Grilled willow leaf fish was very springy to the taste; Dubian Che ate two bites one after the other before turning his chopsticks towards the other dishes.
At that moment, he absolutely, absolutely must not look at Kiyono Lin!
After breakfast, Dubian Che went back to his room to take another shower.
He felt like he had been bathing too many times lately—tonight, he’d have to bathe at least twice more; he wondered if excessive bathing was harmful.
When he came out, there were barely any students left at East Mountain Villa.
As he passed by the entrance with his hands in his pockets, a group of girls suddenly called out to him.
"Mr. Dubian—"
Dubian Che turned his head, looking over the four female students in front of him. He had seen them and remembered their names but had never spoken to them.
"Is something the matter?" he asked, removing his hands from his pockets to avoid seeming too arrogant.
"I like you!"
"..."
"And I like you too!" said the second girl, an average-looking girl with a round face.
"You..."
"I do too! I really, really like you, Mr. Dubian!" the third one, a girl with short hair.
"No, wait..."
"Mr. Dubian, you were so cool at the Cultural Festival! And at the sports festival! Mr. Dubian, I’ve fallen in love with you!" the fourth one, a lively girl with a sizable bust.
Dubian Che looked at the four of them, "Now... what am I supposed to say?"
"Ah haha haha! Mr. Dubian, you big dummy!" The girls linked arms, looking like they had successfully played a prank, and laughed as they ran off into the distance.
Dubian Che adjusted the position of the black dive watch on his wrist and continued walking along Sannian Slope.
The Japanese wooden houses were quaintly low, with tile roofs and ancient townhouse architecture reminiscent of insect cage windows.
Geishas, their faces painted a stark white, bustled hurriedly in short steps on the cobblestone path as they rushed to their next appointment.
Capital City, modeled after the Tang Dynasty cities of Luoyang and Chang’an, had endured a thousand years of weathering and held an air of "blue-and-white porcelain," with a taste of ’the cyan-blue of the misty rain, and I am waiting for you.’
Having some time to spare, Dubian Che stopped to join the queue at an ice-cream store to try the matcha-flavored ice cream.
In front of him were an array of people: Chinese and Korean tourists in kimonos and even a white couple, with a group of Goda High School girls in uniforms at the very front.
After purchasing their ice cream, they made confessions to him as they passed by, as if taking turns giving him a high five.
"Mr. Dubian, I like you~"
"Oh."
"Mr. Dubian, I like you the most!"
"Thank you."
"Like like like!"
"Got it, got it."
"Please go out with me."
"Let’s not."
Just like before, after confessing, the four girls quickly slipped away.
The Chinese, Koreans, and the white couple in front of him turned with bewildered expressions to look at Dubian Che, who was left behind.
A Chinese woman around twenty-eight years old, wearing a cherry blossom-colored kimono with her hair done up, looking like a beautiful young wife, finished buying her ice cream and said to Dubian Che in her freshly learned Japanese:
"Du, Mr. Dubian, like."
"Oh oh oh, I like you too, and just to let you know, my name is Dubian, written with characters for ’crossing’ and ’edge.’"
"You speak Chinese!" The lovely Madam looked at him surprised.
