Chapter 286: 151. Back to Tokyo_2
Watching Chisako’s reluctance to part ways, Dubian Che said helplessly, "I have no idea what to do with you. How about this? Think of me as your first boyfriend in Tokyo. Does that sit better with you? Can you accept that?"
"No way!"
Dubian Che finally couldn’t hold back and burst out laughing.
She had been immersed in the disappointment of the competition when he laughed earlier, but now, shocked by Dubian Che’s shamelessness and the power of the notebook, she momentarily set her loss aside and was completely taken in.
She gaped at Dubian Che stupidly until she remembered that Dubian Che had several girlfriends, which snapped her back to reality, and she shook her head vigorously.
"That won’t do! There’s no room for negotiation on this!"
"When you speak like that, it’s quite a blow to my heartfelt sincerity."
"A blow? You should reflect on yourself!"
"Ha ha ha, you actually took me seriously?"
"Eh?" Chisako blinked, "You’re tricking me again?!"
"Everything I said before the competition was true; I really think you and I are alike. But just now, I was indeed joking."
"Really or not?" Chisako doubted skeptically.
"If possible, I would still like to be a person who’s faithful."
"What about this notebook?"
"Of course, I’ll give it to you. There are plenty of ways I’d like to make you my girlfriend without resorting to threats."
Happy, Chisako hugged the notebook tightly. After hearing Dubian Che’s words, she snorted, "You’re quite confident, aren’t you? But I don’t think so. I only like Sahui."
"That’s how it is then." Dubian Che’s voice softened, a shallow smile on his lips.
"...I wouldn’t agree to you so easily!" Chisako joked along.
"Enough about that, I need to go." Dubian Che’s smile faded, "In the future, you may get unsatisfying results like today, feel so dejected you’d want to die, but remember, you have to believe in yourself. You can definitely achieve anything you set your mind to."
"I’m not you. I don’t have such talent." Her voice was so hoarse that it surprised even Chisako.
Were Dubian Che’s comforting words really that moving?
"I’ve said it before." Dubian Che reached out to pat the shoulder of the girl in front of him, fragile as a reed, "You and I are the same kind of person."
"You’re trying to trick me again." Chisako ignored his hand, gazing intently at the notebook in her hands.
"Chisako."
"What?" Chisako responded softly.
"The happiest thing about playing the oboe is meeting a friend like you. If I had gone to Capital City instead, we probably would have gotten along very well; maybe even Sahui wouldn’t have been as close to you as I am."
"No way."
"Right, if I had gone to Capital City, I wouldn’t have joined the Wind Instrument Club." Dubian Che lifted his wrist to check the time on his watch, "I’m off, goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Chisako watched Dubian Che turn away and disappear into the crowd.
Collecting her emotions, Chisako headed back to the Yunbei school bus.
Inside the bus, the mood was gloomy, everyone still wallowing in the regret and dissatisfaction of their loss.
Only Chisako’s mood had completely shifted from before.
Feeling everyone’s negative emotions, and with the texture of the notebook in hand, she couldn’t wait to get back to practice and then onto the next national contest.
Walking back to her seat, Sahui leaned against the window, her eyes lifeless and her usually enviable long black hair devoid of its gloss.
Chisako plopped down in her seat, stretching out her legs and letting out a big yawn, her shoe falling off again.
"I’m so tired today," she said.
Sahui let out a soft ’mm’, continuing to stare blankly at a fixed point.
"Guess what Dubian came to talk to me about?"
"Mm."
"He confessed to me, asked me to be his girlfriend. Said ever since he first saw me, he’s dreamed about me every day and can’t live without me. This guy is really unbearable, thinks he’s so handsome, a few sweet words, and all the girls will fall for him."
"What?" Sahui lifted her head, looking bewildered at Chisako.
Chisako rubbed her shoulders, letting out a comfortable sigh, "He even urged me to go to Tokyo, offering me ten thousand yen a month allowance, saying he’d take me to win nationals."
"How dare he?!" Sahui clenched her fists tightly, teeth gritted.
"I turned him down. I said I only like Sahui, that I want to be with Sahui forever."
"Chisako..." Sahui’s eyes sparkled.
She reached out both hands, cupping Chisako’s cheeks, her eyes brilliantly assertive as she vowed, "Next year, I will definitely not disappoint you."
"Yeah." Chisako responded tenderly, "I’ll work hard too."
Feeling Sahui’s hands warming up once more, Chisako suddenly realized: Wasn’t she doing the same thing Dubian Che had just done?
Spouting nonsense just to pull the person in front of her from their despair.
’Are we really the same kind of person?’ Chisako looked out the window, trying to find the school bus with the crow emblem.
Feeling a touch of loneliness before their next meeting—for the first time in her life, she felt this emotion.

"If I could become your captive."
"This summer will surely be even more fulfilling."
"Even if we can’t turn back time, don’t forget!"
On the Goda High school bus, Yuzao Haomei held a car microphone, dancing a lively, youthful dance, occasionally making a scissor gesture in front of her eyes, singing "summertime."
The snack tables in the bus were loaded with various snacks and drinks.
The others, some snacking, some tapping the beat and humming along softly, occasionally interrupted by a boy’s shout, followed by the laughter and scolding of the girls.
