Chapter 244: 135. Capital City! Capital City! (Complete)_3
Chisako swallowed nervously, even though the performance hadn’t even started, she felt as if she had already lost half the battle.
She stole a glance at Sahui, whose crystalline eyes were fixed unwaveringly on the stage, her breathing slightly rapid.
"Even Sahui gets nervous?" After thinking this, Chisako gave a wry smile. Nervousness was human nature, of course.
At that moment, the beautiful girl with the surname Kiyono waved her baton, and the deep, chilly music wove into a winter melody, flowing peacefully through the venue.
As Chisako was immersed, the hand she held with Sahui suddenly tightened, and with it, the instruments on stage abruptly fell silent.
With most people setting down their instruments, the guy who claimed to be a fan of Sahui stood up.
"Here it comes!" Chisako held her breath.
When the first note emanated from the black woodwind, it struck Chisako’s forehead like a heavy punch, a gentle tone shaking the air, piercing through her eardrums.
The Capital City Station was vast and high, and every time she stood there, Chisako felt the four thousand glass panes overhead as distant as the heavens. But now, as if the panes themselves were slowly descending to listen more closely to the wonderful sound.
The quiet notes, like whispered speech, were soon joined by the clarinet and brass, the scope of the music abruptly magnifying.
Each note shone dazzlingly, nurturing a melodious tune.
"Spring has arrived!" Although many had never heard this piece before, they immediately understood its essence.
Such impressive expressivity!
The lively melody, the gradually quickening rhythm, the pleasant notes, dancing on the stage.
Everyone truly excelled, but the audience’s eyes couldn’t stray from the standing woodwind player; his fingers moved so fast they dazzled, emitting irresistibly sweet sounds.
Chisako’s breathing became difficult; she clutched anxiously at the left side of her performance attire.
As the last note sounded, there was not a single footstep heard throughout the station.
After a moment of silence, an applause threatened to shatter the glass erupted, reverberating throughout the entire station building.
Chisako sighed deeply, only then realizing she had been holding her breath for quite a while.
"That’s the thug’s level," Sahui murmured to herself.
"It’s amazing!" Mukai Asaka, standing by, had a flushed face, looking nearly fanatic while watching the stage.
Conversely, the devout fan of the strong school, Chiba Reiko, contentedly cradled her cheeks, murmuring with languid satisfaction, "Ah, what a perfect day, Lian couldn’t ask for more."
Chisako looked at the Goda Wind Instrument Club, now preparing to leave the stage, "Is this our competitor in the national competition?"
"Chisako!" Noticing the defeat in her tone, Sahui cupped her face with both hands, "This is not the time to give up!"
"...Yes, I know," Chisako replied, unable to muster the same confidence as Sahui.
Sahui’s trumpet skills were strong enough to stand out among high school students nationwide, but not her; she couldn’t even match a third-year senior.
"Chisako," Sahui saw her friend’s mood and pressed their foreheads together, "We have three years, we can definitely surpass them!"
Her long hair fluttered in front of her; the soft touch through the fabric re-energized Chisako.
A surge welled up deep inside her, a tickling in her throat, unsure if it was joy or embarrassment, Chisako whispered yet firmly to Sahui:
"I will do my best in the competition!"
"Yes!" Sahui joyfully let go of Chisako, "One day we’ll use our strength to make that guy apologize for his frivolity!"
"I think he likes Sahui... for your chest, probably has nothing to do with skill," Chisako teased on purpose.
"I’m going to dislike you now!"
"Ah, sorry, sorry, I was wrong. I won’t joke like that anymore! Sahui, please forgive me!"
"Chisako!" Sahui called out with exasperation and helplessness.
In the time it took Chisako to go from despondency to exhilaration and begin to tease Sahui, Goda High School’s group reappeared in the audience, ready to watch Yumine Girls’ High School’s performance.
Chisako suddenly felt a stroke of luck; it was a good thing Yunbei wasn’t scheduled after Goda, or the pressure would be too great.
"Sahui," came a teasing voice from a distance.
Chisako fought back a smile, glancing at Sahui, who tried to maintain a cool facade. If it weren’t for the crowd and lack of extra space, she reckoned Sahui would have walked away.
"Sahui, it’s me, your first fan," the boy approached.
"Hey, that’s enough!" Chisako tried to sound fierce, but as she spoke, she realized her tone was uncontrollably amused.
Sahui shot her friend a reproachful look, then fixed her gaze on the boy, "Don’t think just because you’re better than me now, you can be arrogant!"
"Arrogant? How could I be!" the boy quickly denied, "I truly am your fan. Could you give me an autograph? It’s my biggest purpose for coming to Capital City!"
"You dare to bring that up!"
Sahui’s tone was fierce, almost making Chisako believe a fight was about to erupt.
"I just want an autograph." The boy wasn’t intimidated at all, insisting, "Just give me that, Sahui, and I’ll disappear right away!"
"Don’t be too much!" Chiba Reiko couldn’t stand it any longer, "How can a boy do such a thing!"
"Yeah, don’t you want to be Prime Minister? Actions like these will leave a mark on your future!" Chisako added to the chiding, hardly suppressing her laughter.
