Chapter 232: 131. Cultural Festival (4)
Dubian Che was in a bad mood and didn’t even bother to visit the Maid Café of Class 2-3. He went straight to the third floor, to where the freshmen were.
People around him whispered to each other; if it hadn’t been for the incident with the student council president and the fact that he had a girlfriend, someone would have surely confessed to him.
Differing from his usual deliberate lack of expression, in this movie, he would occasionally show a smile.
No one could resist Dubian Che’s smile and handsomeness.
As he passed by Class 1-1, he glanced inside. The classroom, transformed into a restaurant, bustled with customers and waiters.
He didn’t see Kiyono Lin.
The performance by the Wind Instrument Club had concluded, and he hadn’t seen her since she left the stage.
Back in Class 4, the first thing Dubian Che noticed was the bespectacled class president sitting at the door, in charge of selling tickets.
"Is there anything I can help with?" Dubian Che asked.
"Other than promotion, I don’t think so," the class president answered, somewhat uncertain.
Since the start of the Cultural Festival, the girls had completely taken over the power in Class 4. After all, whether it was makeup, scripting, or costumes, everything depended on them, and the boys, including the class president, could only follow orders.
"I see," Dubian Che nodded. "If there’s a chance, I’ll see if I can get some help with promotion from the Executive Committee."
The class president adjusted his glasses. "Someone from the news department came looking for you a moment ago."
Those two were seriously annoying, and so were the Discipline Committee members. After being burned once or twice, Dubian Che usually intentionally avoided them.
"Just say you didn’t see me."
The class president nodded. "Want to come in and watch? The script written by Tsuruga is pretty interesting."
"Sure," Dubian Che agreed, albeit he had told Jiutiao and the others that the script was no good, he still wanted to watch it.
"The entry fee is 100 yen."
"I have to pay too?"
"Of course," the class president adjusted his glasses again. "To make our sales look good, all classmates need to buy a ticket. Consider it a class fee."
Unlike most schools that didn’t allow students to profit from the Cultural Festival and required all earnings to be turned in, Goda High School not only didn’t take a penny from the students, but it even established an award for the group that earned the most money.
"Then I won’t watch it."
"...Mr. Dubian, can’t you show some team spirit?"
"You should be talking about yourself. As a member of Class 4, I work hard to raise our average score. Even without merit, there’s effort involved, yet you’re going to charge me to watch a play? Can’t you show some class warmth?"
"It’s the rule. Besides, our class has the highest average score in the whole grade. Only your personal ranking is always third in the grade. Do you know how embarrassing that is?"
"Ah?"
"You make it so that the other classes constantly call us ’eternal third’. It’s not even our fault."
"Those guys don’t know anything! What I’m doing is showing weakness to the enemy. A good man doesn’t fight with a woman, do you know about Uchiha Madara? Everyone thought he died at the Valley of the End at the hands of Thousand Hands Pillar, but what really happened? He not only survived, but he also gained the Zhujian Cell, and he even successfully came back to life!"
"You are third in the grade."
"I’m talking about Uchiha Madara and Thousand Hands Pillar."
"You are third in the grade."
"Why can’t you understand what I mean, class president! Don’t be concerned about the superficial wins and losses for now, the real victor..."
"Class president—" A girl’s voice, drawn out long, came from the front door of the classroom, interrupting Dubian Che, "Come and take over for a second. Takeda has to go to the restroom."
"Alright," the class president stood up, adjusting his glasses.
"Huh? Is that Mr. Dubian too? Then you help out~ Class president, you keep selling tickets, and don’t just sit there sillily, okay? It’s like the sign ’Automatic payment: tickets 100 yen’. Go draw in some customers!"
"...Alright," the class president sat back down, adjusting his glasses.
"Mr. Dubian, come over here!" the girl called.
Dubian Che walked over, and before stepping into the classroom, he said, "You aren’t trying to swindle me out of ticket money, are you?"
"What?" The girl looked at him with a puzzled expression.
"Nothing." Dubian Che looked around the classroom; the lecture desk had been turned into the stage, and there were seven or eight guests seated below.
The girl handed him a large tree mascot costume, "Mr. Dubian, when you go on stage later, could you please face away from the audience? Thank you for standing for ten minutes!"
"No problem," Dubian Che crawled into the mascot costume. "Even though the class president wants to charge me for a ticket, I am still a member of Class 4."
The girl giggled, her laughter tinged with shyness as she helped Dubian Che tidy up his tousled fringe.
Dubian Che was startled, but quickly said, "Thank you, Takahashi."
"Mr. Dubian’s skin is really nice. Do you use anything?"
"Meiji slathered some stuff on me, not sure what it is exactly. Do you want me to ask for you?"
Indeed, Jiutiao Meijie had applied something to his face—but that was only on her birthday, the one and only night Dubian Che stayed over. He wasn’t sure if it was makeup remover or some moisturizing skincare product.
"Ah," Takahashi hesitated, a flicker of indecision crossing her face. "No, that’s fine, thank you Mr. Dubian."
As the atmosphere turned awkward, the female class president, Ikeda Kazumi, shouted over, "Wenhui, did you find the person?"
"Yes, yes!" Takahashi Wenhui hurriedly waved her hand in response and then pointed to a spot on the stage for Dubian Che, "Mr. Dubian, you can just stand over there."
"No problem."
Dubian Che, now dressed as a tree, got onto the stage as inconspicuously as possible and obediently stood at the back, blending into the backdrop.
"Hey, isn’t that the star, Mr. Dubian!"
Unable to turn his head, Dubian Che glanced sideways and saw Kunii Shuichi disguised as a banana plant.
"When did you get here?"
"Since this morning." On the other side, the apple tree spoke up.
"Saito? When I came for my instrument, you guys couldn’t have been here already, could you?"
