Chapter 169: 107. Cram School (2)

On the second day of cram school, Dubian Che woke up earlier than usual; it was only 5:30 AM.

The air conditioning was quite strong inside, and the other three boys were tightly wrapped in their blankets.

Dubian Che quietly left the room, stretching lazily as he came out onto the flat ground of the cram school. There were a few wooden tables and chairs here, covered with dew.

The air was chilly in the early morning, and Dubian Che took a deep breath; the clean air instantly filled his lungs, and closing his eyes, he felt as though he was back in his hometown in the countryside.

If it weren’t for the Wind Instrument Club, he would probably be in the village, going up the mountains and down the rivers, fishing, and hunting.

After doing a few chest expansion exercises and stretching his legs, he ran towards the forest.

The rising sun shone through the dense tree branches, forming columns of light in the forest, and the chirping of various birds could be heard in the distance.

After running for a full fifteen minutes, Dubian Che heard the sound of flowing stream water and didn’t stop until he reached the riverside.

It was a wide riverbank; the stream was clear to the bottom, and the bed was covered with pebbles.

Dubian Che scooped up some water and splashed it on his face.

The river water was so cool it was almost cold, given that it was still before six in the morning.

After washing his face several times, Dubian Che looked up and found himself staring eye to eye with the big fellow across the river.

"Good morning."

The black bear glanced at him, ignored him, and continued to lower its head to drink water from the stream.

Dubian Che naturally stood up and slowly stepped away from the riverbank.

This time, he was more cautious; even though he believed he had Healing Medicine and a fruit knife and that he could manage with the black bear, he still chose the man-made path and did not run wildly through the forest anymore.

He had only walked back a few steps when he saw a big red sign on the roadside that read, "Caution! Bear Crossing!"

"..."

He jogged back to the cram school and, hearing the sound of instruments not far from the cram school, finally felt at ease.

As long as there were people around, he was confident he could run faster, so the bear wouldn’t catch him.

Just kidding.

Without revealing the system, he would still choose to help if he could.

Dubian Che slowed his pace and walked towards the sound of the instruments.

The bass was steady, the melody precise and emotional; the notes were like the splashes of water under the sun, sparkling and dazzling.

Dubian Che immediately guessed who was practicing there.

Even with the same instrument, each person produced a completely different sound. In the Wind Instrument Club’s tenor horn section, the only one who could produce such a beautiful tone was Mayi Asuka.

He lifted his left wrist to check the time: just after six ten, still quite a while before the eight o’clock start of training.

Early morning practice, that was indeed Mayi Asuka’s style.

A few steps forward, the dense and lush forest thinned out, opening up the view.

The golden tenor horn reflected dazzling light under the rising sun, and the girl holding it stood there, her silky black hair cascading down her back, her raised arms slim and fair.

Simply beautiful.

Dubian Che imagined this scene:

A young musician, favored by the muse of music, Aphrodite, specifically came from Olympus to encourage and inspire him on a forest clearing one morning.

The melody slowly tapered off, Mayi Asuka’s rosy lips lifted from the mouthpiece, and she turned her head to look at Dubian Che standing aside.

"Good morning, Che," Mayi Asuka slowly bloomed into a smile.

If Ichiki Aoi or other members of the Wind Instrument Club were here, they would doubtlessly believe they had encountered a goddess.

"Good morning, Asuka," Dubian Che stepped forward, "Impressive, you’ve improved a lot."

"Yes, I’ve been working hard lately. Look."

Just as Dubian Che thought Mayi Asuka was going to play again, she pinched the narrower part of the tenor horn with her right thumb and forefinger, sliding it up and down.

"Che, look, this is ’weikou’." The rising sun cast a holy light on the girl’s gesture.

"..."

"I bought a disk for 1980 yen and learned a lot from it. Also, this is..."

"Senior, I’m going to take a bath, see you later." Before Mayi Asuka’s lips could touch the tenor horn again, Dubian Che walked quickly to the main hall.

Retraction of his previous thoughts.

It wasn’t the favor of the muse Dubian Che had received, but the affection of Aphrodite—the goddess of love and beauty, and also the goddess of desire.

By the time Dubian Che had showered and was eating in the cafeteria, many members of the Wind Instrument Club were already there, chatting and laughing.

He carried his breakfast and sat opposite Xiaoquan Aonai.

"Good morning, Teacher."

"Good morning," Xiaoquan Aonai glanced at Dubian Che’s still damp hair from the heat, "Did you take a bath?"

"Yes. Went out for a run and worked up a sweat.

"Dubian, you’re the most self-disciplined person I’ve seen."

"I am indeed very self-disciplined." Dubian Che’s "self-discipline" was very clearly written in the system bar.

Xiaoquan Aonai laughed at his response, was about to say something, but when she saw Kiyono Lin carrying her tray planning to eat alone in the corner, she called her over.

"Good morning, Teacher," murmured Kiyono Lin, looking half asleep as she sat down next to Dubian Che.

"Good morning, Kiyono," Xiaoquan Aonai nodded.

Dubian looked at Kiyono who had already started eating: "What about me?"

Kiyono Lin lifted her half-closed eyes, glanced at him, and then focused back on her bowl.

"Hey, ignoring me is going too far."

Xiaoquan Aonai laughed and said, "You must be on good terms to be this casual with each other; seems like you two get along well."

"Teacher," Kiyono Lin countered, "Besides being very close, ignoring someone can also be a casual way to handle things if the relationship is very poor."

"So you mean our relationship is very poor because you’re ignoring me?"
