Chapter 148: 100. Masquerade Rhapsody (Part 3)_2

Dubian Che smiled apologetically at Kiyono Lizzi and followed along.

Kiyono Lizzi looked thoughtfully at the backs of the departing pair and murmured to herself after a while, "So handsome. No wonder."

On the way to the dock, the ground was covered with lantern-shaped lights, casting a bright yellow hue between the dancing tree shadows.

"Prepare a boat for me," Jiutiao Meijie commanded a servant standing by the dock.

"Okay."

Dubian Che asked, "What do you need a boat for?"

"To enjoy the night breeze."

"On Tokyo Bay?"

Dubian Che had thought that a servant would start a speedboat, but Jiutiao Meijie had instead requested a wooden boat.

And he was to row it alone!

Far from the dock, away from the party’s lights, Dubian Che loosened his grip on the oars and gazed at Jiutiao Meijie sitting opposite him, feeling the flow of the water with her hands.

Skyscrapers lined the coast ablaze with lights;

The suspension bridge—Rainbow Bridge, spanning the northern part of Tokyo Bay and connecting the Harbor District’s Shiba and Daiba—was filled with a flow of car lights;

Luxury cruise ships and tour boats slowly passed by.

Their small boat was hidden in the darkness, its existence only proven by a single lantern shining at the bow.

"Why have you stopped? Keep rowing."

"No."

"Refusing me?" Jiutiao Meijie scoffed, "Thinking that here you can..."

Dubian Che slid his fingers through her hair and his palm caressed her cheek as he softly interrupted her, "I want to devour you right now."

Jiutiao Meijie tilted her beautiful face up, her lips curving into a smile of scorn and challenge.

On the deserted Tokyo Bay, Dubian Che, who had initially intended to tease and scare her, felt his heart pound as soon as his hand touched her body.

"...That was my plan," he said, easing his breathing which had begun to grow ragged, "but I still need your permission."

"What do you want to do?" Jiutiao Meijie asked coyly.

"Considering the boat is small and big movements might cause it to tip over, I thought... I would kiss you."

Dubian Che lifted her tempting chin, involuntarily drawing his face a bit closer to hers. In the night, the lake light, and amidst the glow of the lantern, his desire-filled eyes looked down on her proud face.

"May I?" he asked in a voice slightly huskier than usual.

The waves slapped the boat and a passing cruise ship sounded its horn among these sounds, Jiutiao Meijie commanded, "...I permit it."

Dubian Che lost to the beauty, and to this damn, sweet, magic-filled atmosphere.

Jiutiao Meijie’s body went limp, leaning into his embrace.

The air above the sea harbored a sweet scent as the boat drifted along the current toward an unknown direction.

"...Meijie."

"...Mmm."

After a brief, meaningless exchange of words, they began to kiss for the second time.

As a cruise ship passed beneath the Rainbow Bridge and distant lights flickered on and off, Dubian Che released Jiutiao Meijie, panting lightly.

Their foreheads pressed together, seemingly the only support to prop up their enervated bodies.

"...Dubian."

"...Mmm."

"...You are mine."

"I am yours."

Naturally, their lips met for the third time.

Sweetness sank into Jiutiao Meijie’s heart, a sensation she had never experienced before.

She couldn’t think about anything anymore, unsure whether it was happiness or satisfaction. All she knew was that when she came back to her senses, her hands had unconsciously clung to Dubian Che’s back.

They straightened out their disheveled attire—her burgundy dress and his black skirt—and returned to shore.

The party was drawing to a close with guests continually bidding farewell to their host.

In the now-empty salon, servants were tidying up the remnants of the event, the space feeling a touch forlorn compared to the earlier flurry of flowing gowns.

Jiutiao Meijie sent Dubian Che back to his rental and left straight away.

Dubian Che, watching the receding car, placed his hand upon his face.

Upon entering his room, he took off his formal attire and hung it in the wardrobe without much thought of wearing it again.

After bathing and changing into shorts and a T-shirt, he slipped on sandals and felt immediately relaxed.

Dubian Che stretched his neck and took his keys to head out.

The little he ate at the party had been burnt off with dancing, rowing, and kissing; he was famished, his stomach practically stuck to his back.

At eleven o’clock at night, the residential area’s streets were empty.

Hands in his pockets, he ambled toward the lit convenience store.

"Welcome!"

Dubian Che picked up some oden, with the cashier unable to stop sneaking glances at him throughout the transaction.

After finishing his meal in the store’s dining area, Dubian Che left and casually tossed the container into the trash bin by the door.

"Meow!"

"Ah, sorry, sorry."

A stray cat that had been sleeping behind the trash can was startled and jumped away.

It was a large cat, a mix of white and orange, looking as if it wanted to leave but reluctantly kept its eyes on Dubian Che.

It probably was waiting for him to go so it could return to the side of the trash.

Dubian Che thought for a moment, returned to the store, and came back out with a watermelon the size of a head.

He knelt down by the trash, spread a bag on the ground, and broke the watermelon with a punch, taking for himself a slightly larger piece.

"Brother, this is an apology gift, pretty good, right?"

The cat, perhaps used to being fed by people or sensing Dubian Che was a kind soul, patted the watermelon with its paw a couple of times before settling down to eat.

Dubian Che chuckled, squatting beside it, and flicked a watermelon seed away with his finger.

"Do you know how much this watermelon cost? 2400 yen! Your brother had to carry an advertising sign on a hot day in Shinjuku commercial street for 2 hours!"

"What are you muttering about all by yourself?"

"Brother, no, sister, you can talk?!"

Of course, the cat with whiskers dyed watermelon-colored couldn’t talk and even turned away in annoyance at Dubian Che’s chatter, flicking its tail at him.
