"Kiyono, are you scared?" Jiutiao Meijie taunted.

"Afraid that I, with only half your time at school, will take the top spot in the final exams?"

’You’re so vain. Clearly, she’s worried about me,’ Dubian Che silently countered on Kiyono Lin’s behalf.

"Let’s talk when you actually get first place," Kiyono Lin responded, not quite to Dubian Che’s satisfaction.

Jiutiao Meijie didn’t want to dwell on such a boring topic and changed the subject, "Your mother asked me to pick you up. Let’s go."

"I have club activities. I will go over later," Kiyono Lin flipped another page.

"Suit yourself." Jiutiao Meijie was just going through the motions and turned to leave right after speaking.

"Do I have to go too?" Dubian Che asked her.

"Of course," Jiutiao Meijie looked back with a glance that seemed to pierce through him, "Would you prefer to stay here with her? Or stay in a music classroom filled with women?"

"Look at what you’re suggesting!" Dubian Che complained, displeased, and took the initiative to help her with the door, "I was just confirming whether I needed to go. Are you jealous or something?"

"Really? You’d better behave yourself."

"Meijie, have you ever read ’The Great Gatsby’? There’s a line in there, ’Every person believes at least one of their virtues to be fundamental,’ and for me, that’s honesty. My love for you is deeper than the Kishima Trench."

"I seem to remember the Kishima Trench is the second deepest trench in the Island Country, right? Who’s the first then?"

"Stop yanking my tie! I’m going to suffocate! Let me finish. The first is my parents, of course!"
