Chapter 41: Treat for the Protagonist!
Chapter 41: Treat for the Protagonist!
[ Reconnecting... ]
[ Hello, Host! Did you enjoy your night?! ]
[ Also, thanks for the scented candle waxes! I really appreciate it! ]
In the long street where a Witch’s shadow loomed alone, Mel’s eyes squinted at the System panel, her hands clutching the pink dress she wore in her <Human Form>.
Mel resisted all her urges to pout as the memory resurfaced. Not now. Lila was still waiting for dinner at home, and she would never greet her with a grumply face!
She confessed. She loved submitting to the Saintess’s whims, but it was more a matter of confusion than pride.
The Witch of Lust grumbled, her voice casual as if unoffended. "Someone seemed far too energetic."
[ Of course! After a slight nudge from the Host, this System is fully rehabilitated! ]
Mel’s thighs clasped together as a familiar heat swirled inside her tummy. "Well... well, I’m so glad someone was excited!"
How could she act like nothing happened when she kissed me so rawly?!
The Witch of Lust’s palms brushed against the cheek, as if her shame could be wiped off easily like stains on a window.
[ Hehe. I’m glad that the Host was as cute as always! Keep it up! ]
She squinted her eyes. "Hold on. Now that I think about it, shouldn’t you still be praying in this hour?"
Mel has heard the rumours about how the Saintess was extremely faithful to the goddess and shut herself off to pray. Yet after tonight, she couldn’t help but judge more and more.
[ Oh? Ah, praying! ]
[ No worries! I am praying while chatting with you! ]
A wry smile curled up on Mel’s face. "You mean... You used praying as an excuse to focus on being a System with me?"
[ Yep yep! Oh... ]
[ I mean, what are you talking about, Host? I am but a humble System, faithful to my duties to save the World! ]
If there were a table, Mel would slam it in full force.
Her voice carried a slight sense of disbelief. "Maria. My Partner... I know you’re lazy, but this is taking it a little too far."
[ ...praying is the most suitable form of laziness. I get to be productive, saving the World with you, after all!"
"It’s just... ugh..."
Mel’s mind swirled with an embarrassed confusion. On one hand, she was slightly repulsed by the Saintess’s utter ignorance of the Goddess in this kingdom, even if she knew very little about her through in-game materials.
On the other hand, she couldn’t help but feel pampered. The Saintess! Prioritising herself instead of the Goddess!
A bubbling warmth swirled in Mel’s chest, and just as she was about to retort pettily, she caught a glimpse of someone in front of her.
Mel raised her brows in a blend of surprise and amusement. Despite letting down the black ponytail, the Swordsmaster’s short hair fluttered gracefully in the gentle breeze, her blue eyes scanning around until they locked onto Mel’s stare.
Mel waved. "Here for a stroll, Miss Swordsmaster?"
Her eyes curved as she eyed Calina’s broadsword dangling at her waist. The hilt was adorned with golden carvings, the sheath gleaming with purity as it contained the razor-sharp edges from within.
She turned back to Calina, who merely frowned at her presence.
And so, the Witch of Lust, who merely terrorised the third exam with a shamelessly outrageous tactic, smiled. "Nothing personal?"
The Swordsmaster’s shoulders shook a little. She was not one with pride, not one to be angered by such a provocation.
But there was something in Mel’s smirk that almost made her wish to draw her blade, now.
She sighed, feeling tired of Mel’s antics. "Indeed. Nothing personal."
Calina sincerely meant it. Survival of the fittest, and she seemed to have brought too dull a tool for the battle last time.
A sharp chuckle pierced through her thoughts, like the arrow that pierced through her secondary sword to her chest during the last exam.
"It’s funny, hehe." Mel’s lips curled up to a satisfied smirk. "Your lips twitched a little when I teased you?"
Did she? The Swordsmaster quickly brought a finger to her mouth. She was trained to hold a neutral expression for her entire life.
Then, a clap made her gaze snap back up. "Just kidding!" The voice boomed across the street, as Mel grinned evilly.
A subtle irritation flared up in Calina’s chest as she furrowed her brows. "Ah. I see."
At this moment, Calina decides getting involved with Mel would only spell troubles.
As the protagonist, the Swordsmaster, and the Witchunter turned to leave, she was stopped again by the same cheerful voice.
"Hey. So, you were looking for something to eat, right?"
She stuttered in her steps, pettiness swelling as she walked away with her back turned against Mel.
She may have a slight trouble choosing her food, but she would never willingly follow an arsonist as long as she didn’t want her food burnt to charcoal.
Despite that, the persistent voice rang behind her. "Hello? Hello, Calina! Miss Calina? Swordsmaster Calina? Petty Calina, who couldn’t hold it in with a single taunt?"
Calina stopped in her steps, her eyes narrowing as they drifted back to Mel’s smug face. "Well. Lead me then."
The Swordsmaster gave up instantly. She couldn’t tell Mel she was overwhelmed by the food choices in the cities.
Mel’s smile widened as she relaxed. "Fantastic! I’ve just found a perfect spot!"
System. What’s the best place to eat the spiciest food available?
[ ...seriously, Host? ]
The Witch of Lust hummed inwardly. In her mind, Calina was, as the game’s title suggested, a Witchunter who had killed her countless favourite characters in the original timeline, including but not limited to her cute Lila!
Therefore? She was perfect for a venting tool for what just happened tonight. Even the most diligent of seducers needed a break every now and then!
[ ...bad girl, little Mel. ]
"Shut it," Mel muttered to the air, pouting. "Help me, or no?"
The screen flickered for a bit.
[ Of course! Just as a treat to our cute, pouting Mel, of course! ]
Mel nodded approvingly to herself before her expression softened for Calina.
She stretched out her hand. "Promise me you won’t be mad if the food is bad?"
Despite the protagonist’s role as the ’Witchunter’, Mel still liked Calina. This dinner was no exception to her plan of seduction, and Calina will fall under her no matter what.
Calina glanced deadpan at the hand, her mind numbling adrift as she took it as a handshake. "I promise. It is my request after all."
Taking one last glance at the ornamental blade, Mel giggled and tugged Calina’s hand to lead her down the road. "Then don’t let go of big sister’s hand!"
A muffled groan escaped Calina. "Seriously?"
"Oh. Please don’t shake it off! I might cry on the spot, you know?"
Calina’s expression remained deadpan as she was pulled forward. "You can cry for all I care."
Though wary of troubles at midnight, the Knight’s hand remained clasped around Mel’s to protect her.
As Mel mused at such a gentlemanly behaviour, her thoughts drifted back to Lila, who was likely waiting for her at home.
A small, uneasy chuckle slipped out. Unlike others, she planned only to drop off Calina to her most memorable dinner yet, before returning to Lila.
She should at least <telepath> Lila on the way. Can’t have her childhood friend worrying after all!
[ Host? ]
"Yes?"
[ Do try to be careful around Calina, alright? ]
"Understood!"
Her hand tightened around Calina’s, fully intending to ignore the System’s warning for tonight.
