Chapter 41: 0041 Among us, an imposter has snuck in!

In just over three hours, after Lynch had some late-night snacks and lay in bed pretending to be weak, the doctor at the emergency center applied something unfamiliar to his face, making him look quite worn out.

When he was wheeled out of the emergency center, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, including the Director of the Federal Tax Bureau of Sabin City, who had stayed without leaving. Only at that moment did he feel a sense of relief.

As long as Lynch didn’t die, the issue wouldn’t escalate to an uncontrollable extent. In fact, whether it’s him or higher-ups or management departments, how could they be unaware of some of the issues at the lower levels?

As long as the problem doesn’t become unmanageable, those at the top tend to turn a blind eye, pretending not to know anything. Everyone understands that if everything at the frontline were to be done strictly by the book, probably nothing would get done.

Granting some leeway or even bending the rules isn’t considered excessive, as long as they can complete their work and tasks, anything goes.

Every year in the Bail Federal, there are no less than hundreds of conflicts caused by law enforcement boundaries; there used to be even more in the past, yet enforcement agencies have never shied away. Nor have we seen these agencies being caged by their superiors.

But if Lynch died, the matter would become problematic. Any effective and healthy mechanism inherently has a process to clean internally, clearing out the rotten parts, and the Federation Government is no exception.

The Bail Federal’s "Inspectorate" is precisely such a special department. Within it, there are many sub-departments, among the more famous are the "Duty Crime Investigation Bureau," the "Disciplinary Committee," and the "Anti-Infiltration Investigation Office."

Once public opinion starts boiling, some people from among them will quickly show up in Sabin City, initiating investigations around excessive law enforcement and possible duty crime activities, making Michael not the only unlucky one at that time.

A little investigation team leader cannot bear such a "weight"; someone must be dismissed alongside him, and that person is very likely to be a director-level figure who "knew and didn’t report."

Fortunately, Lynch woke up, which means things wouldn’t get too bad, except for the series of bills he’ll face next.

Lynch had a talk with the doctor, then facilitated a simple cooperation between them. The doctor’s actions here weren’t considered a major fault.

One must know, in the Bail Federal, medical institutions are all controlled by medical groups, in other words, hospitals are akin to malls under the guise of these capitalists wearing medical group skins.

They sell something called health; to gain health, one must pay money. Doctors and nurses are the salesmen. They work here not to save lives and wounds, although they often claim so.

From the very beginning, the purpose of learning these medical skills was to enter a hospital as a doctor or nurse and become part of the high-paying group.

Their essential job is also to create profits for the group, so why would a doctor refuse a risk-free cooperation to obtain a large commission?

Of course, this is precisely why any mention of medical reform by the President garners public support. With the exorbitant treatment costs and cold attitudes of hospitals, most people hope for change, but it is indeed very difficult to achieve.

It’s like asking those big capitalists not to earn money. They are not philanthropists; even philanthropists must first drain enough blood from the common folk before they can offer their crimson hearts to others. It’s practically impossible.

In the end, the news that Lynch was hospitalized following violent threats from Michael soon spread out. At the Police Station, Michael cooperating with the investigation didn’t expect Lynch to be so severely injured.

Some policemen hesitated but eventually made him cooperate, clapping handcuffs and shackles on him. This is the highest level of luxury in the Police Station, simultaneously implying Michael might be implicated in a first-degree murder case as a perpetrator if Lynch kicked the bucket overnight.

The series of changes didn’t alarm many citizens of Sabin City. Even when dawn breaks, they might not know that a guy named Lynch was beaten into the hospital by a tax bureau investigation team leader named Michael, who even got a risk notice issued.

Most people’s days were no different than usual, including young Michael.

After waking up in the morning and eating an unappetizing breakfast, he joined everyone in entering the prison "workshop." Sometimes everything in the Bail Federal seems puzzling.

Despite prisons should be state nature structures, there are numerous private prisons in the Bail Federal. The power of capital penetrates every crevice, even the prisons and inmates, in some people’s eyes, become factories extracting profits.

Fortunately, Sabin area’s prison is not a private prison. The number of inmates in this small city hasn’t reached a point where the Sabin City Hall finds it burdensome, so they can still afford these expenses for now.

The convicts detained here don’t just eat idle meals; they must work, though such work resembles more an outcome of an era-based policy.

The primary reason some considered why criminals continue to commit crimes post-release was their lack of skills, unable to quickly integrate into society and earn enough to support themselves, left with no other job skills, leading to a life returning to crime.

After years of discussion, a bill called "Prisoners’ Skills Training/Employment Guidance Act" finally passed, requiring each prisoner to master a skill to make a living during their sentence.

This bill gave birth to many new issues since its implementation, and to solve these new problems, more problems emerged, but these didn’t matter.

What mattered was young Michael sat honestly at a sewing machine, starting to sew as per his "mentor’s" requirements. This is the employment skill in Sabin area’s prison.

The model of old bringing new lets inmates master the skill of using sewing machines proficiently. If they are interested, they can self-learn related mechanical repair content. Once released, whether to become workers or something else, they’d have a skill.

Usually, new inmates would be arranged into the rookie group. The prison would arrange some veterans to guide them until they independently made a prison garment for themselves, marking their success.

By then, they could choose to bask in the sun, exercise, or work here. Every time they completed a garment per the requirements, they’d receive some monetary reward.

These rewards would be given to them in one go when they leave prison or used for prison expense consumption.

After sitting down, young Michael’s mentor hadn’t told him to start but rather looked toward the entrance, casually said, "There’s a newcomer today, they’ve put you all in the same group..."

Young Michael had no issues with it; he had begun adapting to life inside, it wasn’t as terrible as people said. He felt he could complete his sentence peacefully and quickly here without Michael’s help.

Before long, a few newcomers were brought into the workshop, all walking towards young Michael. They were all new; uniform learning progress wasn’t troublesome.

Just as everyone was getting ready to learn, a guy who had been staring at young Michael suddenly shouted, "Hey, I know you, your dad has a ’badge’!"

For a moment, the entire workshop went silent. Young Michael swallowed his saliva and suddenly felt the atmosphere was not quite right there; even his "mentor," who had been chatting and laughing with him these days, had a slightly different look in his eyes.
