Chapter 204: 0202 Self-Deprecation and Hardship

Nell suddenly transitioned from an unemployed worker to a manager, a process he had never experienced before, which made him a bit anxious about whether he could handle it properly.

Lynch reassured him with a few words, using a challenging approach.

Nell, true to his name, wouldn’t mind having a collision if something tried to block him, and he promised he could complete the task.

Appointing Nell as manager was partly due to their familial ties which were enough for Lynch to trust Nell. This was no ordinary job; it was meant to discount construction expenses, a special company that was somewhat legal yet not entirely legal.

Of course, it was also involved in some less important construction projects. In the Federation, a construction company needs at least five years from laying materials to undertaking buildings with a total height exceeding ten meters.

According to regulations, after participating in a low-level construction project, one would then proceed to mid-level and middle-high-level buildings, and high-rise building permits required even more time.

Most enterprises wishing to enter the construction industry choose to acquire construction companies with certification, but Lynch’s goal wasn’t to build houses for the Federation or for himself.

When bidding, Federation construction companies leave enough profit margin and adhere to certain implicit industry rules. For example, during the budgeting for bids, they use higher material prices to set standards, but they won’t do this during actual construction.

These people control many secrets and information within the industry; sometimes, for a large construction project, they would prearrange establishing small material companies to legally execute contract fraud.

They skillfully confuse brands, numbers, and data to ultimately obtain more profit, which is legal because during inspection, the reference isn’t the brand of materials used but whether these buildings meet Federation standards and their contractual standards.

They artificially created numerous profit spaces, causing developers considerable suffering. The company Nell was about to helm served as a subcontractor.

Lynch, as the initiator, could secretly operate to allow Nell’s company to win bids, but they didn’t possess construction qualifications. At this point, companies with construction qualifications would approach and propose undertaking projects Nell couldn’t construct.

Of course, to show sincerity, they would also leave enough profit margin for Nell’s company, effectively saving Lynch a lot of costs.

Some people, to compress costs, would even arrange for their second company to undertake and subcontract further, and of course, there might be other situations involved, like Lynch giving the project to Mark’s company...

Sometimes, certain things can’t be avoided, such as legal benefits transfer.

"What you need to do is find some skilled workers. I’ll assign the main building work to others, and you and your future workers will only need to handle the road paving."

"Also, don’t find people you’re familiar with or those you have close relationships with. These individuals might become your trouble, though you can give it a try."

Lynch gave a final reminder, then let Asir also come to the social services office. After they registered the company, Asir took Nell for a while, at the very least letting him know what he should be doing and shouldn’t be doing.

Before leaving, Lynch left Nell three phone numbers; one was his home number, another was the office number, and the other was Asir’s office number.

Soon, Lynch’s car appeared at the club, and outside the club were parked two trucks. Some Blue Vests in blue overalls were moving things from the club into the trucks.

These items would be transported to the plot of land on the city outskirts owned by Lynch, as he had already sold this land here to Hart.

A wooden fence had been erected around the club, resembling a simple barricade made from uneven wide boards, but on these boards, many concept images and details about the land and the buildings to be constructed on it had been posted.

Hart was a savvy veteran, understanding the value and function of promotion. When Lynch got out of the car, he noticed some people seeming to inquire around what appeared to be Hart’s staff.

Lynch’s arrival quickly alerted Kane, who swiftly appeared before him.

"No one has any objections, right?" As they walked inside, Lynch asked.

The relocation of the club from near the city center to what could be called the suburbs inevitably had some people concerned, even if they might not have been around for long.

Kane shook his head, "No, the head coach fully supports and agrees with your decision, so those guys and gals have no reason to object."

He was well aware that, in the club, aside from the owner, it was the manager and the head coach, and with both standing by Lynch’s side, the non-professional athletes naturally had no opinions.

Many problems in sports clubs arise not from the athletes’ own thoughts but are usually instigated by management. It’s a tool for management to leverage athletes against club owners.

But when club owners and management stand together, such situations don’t occur.

The two moved through the club’s building to the sports field, where boys and girls were divided into two camps, engaging in their routine training.

Rugby wasn’t known as a civilized sport but was very entertaining and easier than other sports to stir passionate excitement.

Watching those guys in gear, vigorously running, colliding, the sweat they poured out turned everything different.

After watching for a while, the head coach noticed Lynch standing there and proactively came over, "Chairman..."

"Chairman?" Lynch laughed as he looked at Kane and then towards Moore, "The title is quite interesting!"

Moore didn’t seem embarrassed by his flattery; he had figured out the situation here. Regardless of whether Lynch could realize his value, just being able to maintain his current team and receive timely salary payments was satisfying enough.

If he could use Lynch’s influence to achieve his dreams, wouldn’t that be even better?

Moore didn’t consider flattery a humiliation; it was merely a harmless little "jest" to improve relations.

Moore nodded earnestly, "We are a professional sports club with not just one project, so naturally a board would be formed, and you would certainly be the chairman."

A single professional club and a specialized sports club operate in different ways; simply put, the former is a company, while the latter is a group company. However, both form a board at a certain scale to manage daily operations.

If it’s the former, the club chairman might be appointed by the owner or entrusted to professional managers, or the owner might hold the position themselves.

Though this isn’t very common, most professional club investors barely understand sports beyond the surface; they’re investing in a project, not passion.

But if it’s the latter, the majority of shareholders would themselves undertake the position. Should they prefer not to be tied down by numerous club affairs, the chairman could be honorary, but related powers wouldn’t diminish.

This prevents some executive directors and club management from completely sidelining the shareholders, though such incidents have happened.

If shareholders hold financial and some administrative authority, bypassing the board chairman below requires more work.

Moore’s flattery might be simple, but receiving flattery indeed is pleasing, especially when it comes from a strict and proud head coach, which enhances its value.

Lynch’s gaze returned to the sports field, "The pre-season tournament is starting next month; have we registered?"

This was Kane’s responsibility, and he nodded, "Our registration has been submitted to the State United Transport Association office."

The transition from amateur to professional amateur leagues is the only league with broadcasting rights organized by the United Transport Association. The pre-season isn’t much related to the official season results, but not entirely unrelated.

Getting good rankings in the pre-season might provide seed player status in the official season, allowing entry straight from the second round of the official season, which is advantageous in managing athletes’ stamina.

Lynch turned to Moore, "So, Mr. Head Coach, can we achieve a good rank in this pre-season?"

Moore’s expression was slightly odd, but he nodded firmly, "The guys are extremely hardworking. If they seriously implement tactical plans and maintain a spirited morale, I think it’s not difficult."

Moore wasn’t boasting; since he and Kane recruited these players, he discovered a problem.

These young men engaged in labor work were more diligent, humble, and obedient than those college football "stars."

Moore was most satisfied with not having romantic distractions for these guys.

In college campuses, football players were always seen as stars, with many girls proving their charm by sleeping with them; young guys struggled to control their hormones, leading to unstable team performance.

But not here. Everyone worked hard; their diligence moved Moore, making him think he could apply the same approach if coaching other teams in the future.
