Chapter 128: 0127 Study hard, make progress every day

"Does your father know how to drive?"

Lynch asked the question after hearing the girl’s words.

It would be best if Catherine’s father knew how to drive. Whether it’s a small car, a big car, or a truck, they are essentially similar apart from minor differences. If you can drive one type, you can quickly master driving other vehicles.

Bail Federal is not a country with a narrow territory. There is vast land here, and factories are far from city circles. When factory owners mark out their land, they often ask for more.

Most factories have large areas, and moving materials within the factory is almost impossible relying solely on manual labor. Most of them have dump trucks or forklifts for support transportation.

So many workers have the opportunity to come into contact with these things and can learn to drive them. Factory owners are happy to see this situation.

After all, hiring a separate driver requires additional expenses, but if the workers can drive themselves, they can save an extra salary.

Unfortunately, Catherine’s father cannot drive any vehicles. He’s just a simple workshop worker, one of those ordinary people who don’t want to deal with or worry about matters beyond his job.

"Is there any manual labor?" Catherine took another sip from her glass. "You can arrange a physical job for him; he’s best at that."

When talking about this kind of work, Catherine was straightforward without any pretense or hidden meaning. For these two young people, for a long time, manual labor was what they considered the most normal job. Even now, in Catherine’s world, ordinary people do manual labor just fine.

Lynch scratched his eyebrow, suddenly feeling a little itchy there. He pressed his lips together and thought for a moment, "Then let him work in the warehouse, dealing with all sorts of things every day."

"Great, that will do!"

A sudden silence occurred between the two, with neither speaking first. The atmosphere became somewhat bizarre and heavy.

After a few drinks, the girl finished the wine in her glass with one last sip. She carefully placed the glass on the coffee table without making too loud of a noise, then looked at Lynch, who also gazed at her.

Their eyes connected for a brief moment before the girl shrugged and averted her gaze. Her fingers interlocked awkwardly, then untangled and moved to her sides with the motion of her shoulders.

"What about me? How will you arrange me?" She looked around at the big house. When she and Lynch were together before, they fantasized about buying a big house if they ever made enough money.

That way, the whole family wouldn’t have to squeeze into a tiny space. They could give each child an individual big room, large enough for a bed, a desk, a bookcase, and a wardrobe.

They would have a completely separate large kitchen and an independent large dining room. The dining room would have a big TV, so they could watch a bit of TV while eating.

They would have many rooms, each with a separate bathroom, so the family wouldn’t need to jump around because someone wouldn’t get off the toilet.

If there could be a swimming pool in front of the house, that would be even better. When the weather is hot, they could swim with the kids. Swimming can make people joyful and finally give a purpose to those swimsuits bought long ago but never used.

Now this dream has become a reality, but the girl is no longer within the dream, causing her emotions to dip.

However, she is a strong girl and quickly adjusted her mindset. "I’ll say this upfront: you can let me be a maid, but I won’t wear those clothes..." She laughed slyly, "You know what I mean."

Lynch paused for a moment, then burst into laughter uncontrollably. This was the first time he laughed so freely since arriving in this world, just influenced by some pure emotion.

Before they separated, they once bought some magazines suitable only for adults. One issue was titled "Master and Servant." At that time, the "Lynch" couldn’t help wanting to buy those clothes for Catherine to try, but stopped due to the price.

Suddenly recalling the past memories from deep within brought a sense of nostalgia combined with eager longing. Their laughter intertwined but soon each gradually subsided.

Lynch used two or three fingers to hold the bottom of the cup, swirling it and playing with it. After about ten seconds, he spoke, "Do you remember our initial plan?"

Catherine nodded slightly. Some things are hard for people to forget, and this period is actually not long for the two young people.

After leaving school, they agreed that if either of them could find a stable job and save some money, perhaps the other could continue schooling.

They both actually had good grades, but lacked certain necessary conditions.

Lynch’s words made Catherine faintly realize something, and she began to feel a little hopeful.

On the third glance meeting Lynch’s eyes, the girl did not avert her gaze this time. She stared directly at Lynch.

Lynch chuckled lightly, "Go to school, and let’s chase our own dreams!"

This suggestion immediately struck a chord with the girl. She did not hesitate at all and agreed right away.

Perhaps it was the alcohol, or maybe it was the sense of relief from obtaining a result she was somewhat satisfied with. The girl, having relaxed after the tension, felt a bit weary.

She wanted to go back, but Lynch didn’t agree. With a playful tone, he said, "You can choose a room, of course, my bed can fit two people."

Catherine didn’t refuse to stay over but rejected sharing a bed with Lynch, "You forgot, we broke up. If you want to do something, you can pursue me. If I have that thought, perhaps I’d chase you again..."

Lynch shook his wrist, "Dream on!"

During the time that followed, Lynch took the girl to another master bedroom and helped her settle in, teaching her how to use everything in the room, including the small items in the bathroom.

Afterward, Lynch took the initiative to leave. In fact, he could have stayed, the girl wouldn’t refuse, but he needed to show her some respect.

By the way, he called Mr. Fox and asked him to send over some women’s clothes.

Having lived together for so long, he knew Catherine’s clothing size.

Later on, each of them lay in bed but didn’t fall asleep immediately. They were both thinking about some things, without any clear inclination or purpose, just a scattered kind of thinking.

Until late at night, they gradually fell into a dreamlike state.

The next day, the former couple met in the dining room on the first floor. The maid had already prepared breakfast for them: some vegetables, a few buns, bacon, smoked ham, butter, and some milk.

However, Lynch’s milk was hot, while Catherine’s was slightly cold.

"I thought I needed to do it myself." Sitting at the dining table, Catherine looked at the busy maid with some curiosity, "How much do you pay her a month?"

"Four hundred and twenty bucks." Lynch answered casually while reading the newspaper and eating breakfast.

That price isn’t exactly high, but also not low. A competent maid can sometimes take on some tasks that a housekeeper would do, and their work performance is very good, more efficient than hiring two fools.

Catherine shook her head, "I suddenly regret it. Maybe becoming a maid is a good choice?"

Lynch looked up at her, then put down the newspaper, "In terms of wealth, starting work earlier does lead to earlier benefits, though sometimes situations are different."

"When your starting step is higher, you can quickly earn back the time and money ’lost’ during study, and there’s also a continual upward trend."

"Focus on preparing to study well. You don’t owe me anything. If you feel you do, why not work for me after graduation?"

Lynch picked the newspaper back up, his eyes returning to it, "Then I’ll make you feel the exploitation and oppression from capitalists!"

Catherine didn’t continue speaking and began to enjoy the sumptuous breakfast, while Lynch kept reading the newspaper.

The domestic situation had some issues or was perhaps reaching a turning point.

The state newspaper mentioned that some funds that had flowed into the Federation to avoid war were starting to withdraw, causing a certain degree of impact on local economic construction. Then it talked about some foreign merchants committing severe illegal acts in Bail Federal. From state newspapers to local ones, everyone was talking.

They even directly linked exploitation and oppression to foreign merchants, whereas earlier, both mainstream and non-mainstream newspapers tried to avoid naming and shaming, let alone discussing exploitation.

This is a rather complex and obscure topic that easily causes social controversy, a misstep could lead to big trouble.

But now, they seem fearless, all condemning certain foreign merchants for exploiting and oppressing Bail Federal workers, and for their crimes committed domestically, while completely avoiding mentioning the excessive actions of domestic merchants.

The direction is becoming clearer, seemingly some people didn’t reach a mutually satisfactory result in negotiations.

The "Trade Report" didn’t have much shocking content, just in the least noticeable column of the international section, it talked about the Bail Federal Free Trade Department’s latest embargo list.

Included were some Federation products related to industry that had become quite famous in recent years, which were placed on the embargo list, banned from overseas shipment.

These crazy people!

Lynch, being gentlemanly, elegant, and cultured, couldn’t help but extend greetings to the Bail Federal President and the entire President’s Cabinet and their families.

In his opinion, Bail Federal could easily escape the current predicament. Yet the thoughts of the Conservative Party were clearly different. They were unwilling to actively participate in international affairs, leading to a worsening domestic crisis.

This bunch of fools!
