Chapter 162: We’re Rich
Chapter 162: We’re Rich
**BOOM!**
On the main planet, on a continent where the Mannaz lived without anything too flashy, the ground seemed to explode. A thick cloud of dust covered everything.
Up in the sky, a Dragoness flapped her wings with a cold stare. She didn’t move, but then a serpentine figure slipped out from her clothes.
Darian let out a huff, and his body lit up.
He started floating as his physical form turned ethereal. Quickly, he began to change... all his rainbow colors faded, and he turned completely black.
The black power took over him entirely. He felt a huge surge of strength coming from that body of his and smiled. Now, he didn’t need to fight just with daggers, using either black or white power. While Niara used one, he’d use the other, also transforming.
But they were really different. Niara was a melee fighter, a true war tank. Darian, thanks to his rings and his domain, would use black and white power in completely different ways.
In that instant, he felt like something inside him was catching fire. A near primal urge to let it all out took over.
The little black dragon opened its mouth... the world went dead silent like it was bracing for a disaster.
The dust on the ground started to clear.
There, a deep abyss appeared. Inside, there were several buildings and structures. Before, that place was just a flat, ordinary plain. Countless spatial runes and inscriptions had hidden the abyss. Anyone passing by would’ve felt nothing underneath. They’d just see a normal dirt path and walk right over it without noticing a thing.
That was precisely the heart of the Bloodkill Claw assassins.
Everything had been normal for them... until just a few seconds ago. That’s when, suddenly, all the runes hiding the place exploded violently, exposing them.
Now...
The entire sky above them turned pitch black. There wasn’t a single ray of sunlight left. A bone-chilling cold hit several thousand Mannaz from that clan.
Darian let that power pour out of his body.
Thanks to the draconic bloodline in that body, everything condensed and came out of his mouth like a legit dragon breath. But... he thought it was way too cringe to yell something like that.
The world above shook. It felt like the sky itself was crashing down on their heads.
"NO!!"
**RUMBLE!!**
An apocalyptic level of destruction hit, and the entire planet felt it.
"Wow!" Niara was breathless, completely euphoric.
In this setup, Darian could fight as the offensive side, responsible for long-range attacks for the duo, since he had way more firepower than her in that area. Meanwhile, Niara, with the white power, would focus on defense and abilities tied to the Primordial Dragon.
When they switched powers, with Darian taking the white power, he’d specialize in healing, purification, and all that. Niara would take the destructive, focused, single-target offensive side.
Now they were a perfectly synergized duo, able to adapt to whatever each fight needed.
As soon as everything went silent, Darian roared: "GO!"
On a nearby mountain, the twins and their Summoners snapped out of their stupor. All four of them were completely stunned after witnessing that power.
"Bro... that was terrifying... and awesome..." Lucy blurted out, clenching her fists. The twins’ drive to get stronger just kept skyrocketing.
They jumped, diving straight into the devastated abyss.
Their Summoners already had wings, but now they turned red and way bigger. It was a level C martial art that boosted their aerial potential.
That place had exposed buildings, but also areas built into the ground, on the sides, and even deeper underground. Those spots had been only partially destroyed, and many people were still alive.
The twins could sense all of them perfectly, since assassin karma was super dense; after all, there was never a shortage of people wanting to kill others, and there was always work for them.
Niara grabbed Darian, who went back to being solid and regained his glowing colors. That attack had cost him a ton of black power and was a huge waste... but it was good for testing his abilities.
It worked great for AoE damage, letting him wipe out weaker enemies in one shot and avoid an even bigger cost in energy or resources. But against stronger opponents, it was pretty useless.
Without wasting time, the few survivors were completely wiped out. Then the two of them headed for the most secret, deepest spot.
There, it was a forge, full of furnaces, anvils, and materials.
That clan held the knowledge left behind by the Heaven’s Will, back when she was still a mortal who had learned the techniques of the God of Forging. The rune seals attached to the weapons of those assassins were insanely scary and valuable. Darian needed to get his hands on that.
They reached a storage room at the back of the forge. Inside, there were hundreds of daggers and blades for assassins, along with light armor. All of them carried the two types of rune seals these assassins were known for.
Darian stored everything away, then carefully searched every corner.
He found a sealed door, covered in defensive inscriptions.
*BANG!*
Niara blew it up with a punch, and they went inside. There, they found a dozen Jade Slips. Just one quick glance was enough to confirm it.
"This is it!" he said, excited. "But... it’s a lot of knowledge. It’s gonna take forever to study all this... and I don’t even know if I have the talent for it."
Time wasn’t something Darian could waste. He wasn’t a genius who picked things up easily, and the fact that he’d never been even remotely interested in forging meant that, even with a lot of effort, it wouldn’t be quick... or fun.
"Well, eventually I’ll find an ally who can use this. For now, these weapons will be enough," he said, storing everything.
In less than two hours, the whole place was completely cleaned out. Both people and treasures. Unlike at the Academy, here they could take everything they found.
It was a highly sought-after assassin clan. There were so many spatial rings full of resources, it would take months just to check and organize everything. On top of that, the clan had tons of ores and valuable items, both for training members and accumulated over time.
"We’re rich and won’t be short on resources for a while. You guys can leave now," Darian said casually to the twins, who waved excitedly.
Looting was definitely the best way to make a profit. It felt good to find clans that deserved to be wiped out sometimes, Darian thought to himself.
With that, they went back to the Academy. Then, they used the teleportation inscriptions one last time and returned to the planet that had served as their temporary shelter.
...
When they arrived on the planet, and later at the village, it was already the end of that day. Everyone was anxiously waiting for them.
Twelve days left.
That was all the time Darian had to do something alone, something no one in the history of this universe had ever managed.
Failure wasn’t an option. He’d have to go straight into the enemy’s home and find a way. Otherwise, the next time he returned to this universe, it would be his last. He’d become the top priority target of all the most powerful traitors.
In the village, all 70 who had been turned into Risen were awake.
Darian analyzed them for a moment.
Their bodies were 99% Yin, and it didn’t look like that was gonna change, no matter what he tried. The men were completely infertile, and their strength was unstable. Even the women weren’t doing much better, with so little Yang left in their bodies. To top it off, they all gave off a slightly oppressive presence to normal people.
In short, they were basically something close to a demon from the old legends. Darian had never seen a demon before, but thanks to that book, he knew they existed as a regular race in certain universes, just like humans.
Other than that, they were normal people... but yeah, no doubt it’d be impossible—or would take centuries of insane effort—for the Mannaz to ever accept them in society.
"You guys wanna try staying here? Or are you coming with me and the others somewhere else?" Darian asked directly, looking at everyone gathered.
One person quickly spoke up for the group: "Sir, our lives were saved..."
"Cut the whole ’repaying debt and blah blah blah’ crap," Darian cut him off flatly. "I just did what was convenient. Saving you instead of killing you benefits everyone, ’cause we’ll have more people to help beat the enemies. Decide for yourselves if you wanna fight here and maybe live a bit longer... or go to a place a thousand times more dangerous and probably die fast."
Everyone went silent for a few seconds, then stared into the celestial blue eyes of that Spiritual Guardian.
They all nodded genuinely, fully understanding his intentions.
Niara smiled. Sometimes Darian just couldn’t admit what he really thought and felt. But he was so obvious that all those Mannaz—people who had lived many decades, some even centuries—understood. Which made them even more satisfied.
Quickly, they started speaking up, one by one, looking at him as they said they wanted to go with him. They just wanted a chance to help save that universe.
"Great," Darian answered, not really caring, and turned around. "Lucy, Lucius, we gotta let our Summoners rest a bit. Tomorrow morning, we move out."
