Chapter 84: XTeam Basecamp (1)

Monday - 3.30 AM

Mel is awakened by the sound of a timer from her cellphone. She immediately got up and walked fast to the bathroom. In no time, she was ready to go.

This morning, she wore all-black training clothes and sneakers. Even though it’s already March, the air still feels cold in the morning. She also wore a thick coat and didn’t forget to bring her backpack for replacement clothes and other stuff.

After training at XTeam headquarters, she will head to her office. Today, she will discuss with Hiro and Amy about launching a digital bank.

In the short time Mel arrived at the lobby, she saw a familiar black SUV parked. It was still pitch black outside, and it was freezing. She tightened her coat and walked quickly to the car.

"Morning, Anton. How are you today?" Mel greeted as soon as she got into the car and sat beside Anton, who was driving, then offered him a fistbump.

Anton laughs, then does the same... "Morning, Mel. I’m fine. How about you? You look so fresh today."

"What time do you drive from basecamp?" she asks casually. Anton ignores her. Mel chuckled then continued... "Why do you look upset? Don’t tell me it’s because I asked you to pick me up?" Anton smirks. "Gosh Anton... you know, you deserve to pick me up in the middle of the night." Mel shakes her head lightly.

Anton glanced at her with his brow raised slightly. "Deserved? What do you mean?" He is confused.

"You don’t know the reason why this additional training exists?"

Anton shook his head.

She glared at him, then said in an icy tone... "This is because you are too fussy. You tell the commander, during my leave, I never practice."

Anton, shocked, glanced at her with a disbelieving-looking face.

It turned out that because of his naivety, he had to train with Mel three times a week within a month. Damn it!

If only he had known the effect would be like this, he would not have spoken to the commander.

He could only scold himself in his heart.

"Don’t worry, bro... I’m only punishing you today. Tomorrow and onwards you don’t have to pick me up. I can drive myself." Mel grinned.

"You really are a vengeful lady, huh!?" Anton said while smile.

"Of course... that is one of my many expertise."

Anton chuckled, then he ignored Mel, who had now yawned a few times. It seems she was still sleepy. He let her sleep.

After the car arrived at the freeway, Anton drove his car as fast as lightning. In no time, they arrived at a closed area, XTeam Headquarters.

The XTeam headquarters is located on the border between City J and City B, around Mount Bern. It’s about 45 minutes from Mel’s apartment.

They entered the base and headed straight to the simple 2-story building as camouflage. The office and other advanced facilities and command areas were actually beneath the mountain.

This basecamp is located at the foot of Mount Bern, hidden under the shade of trees.

So on the surface, people can only see a few ordinary building designs. Like other small cities, the highest building is only on the 2nd floor. This building is used as a dormitory for XTeam members and another for ordinary offices to receive guests.

This place also cannot be traced via any sophisticated satellite. It’s very well protected, and only XTeam members have access to this basecamp. Other people are not allowed to enter.

Top military officers, even the president, cannot enter without permission. And, even if they entered, they were only allowed to reach the front area, specifically for receiving important guests.

Being here is like being in a small town. Because this base is complete with all facilities usually available in a small town. There is an airplane landing, a small hospital, an advanced facility for the research center, an intelligent center, a barrack building for members, recreational facilities, and a very sophisticated extreme training ground.

For the training ground, there are four levels, starting from the lowest; Proficient, Master, Expert, and Hell. And Mel will do additional training in the expert training field.

After passing through several strict checkpoints, finally, the car stopped at a wide sports field, as wide as an international soccer field.

She feels good to be back here. She hasn’t been here for some time, around a few months, but even then, she only passed directly to the secret airport.

Mel checked her watch already at the 5 AM training ground.

It was still dark. Mel saw that some of the soldiers had started training. She didn’t recognize their faces. It looked like they were new soldiers.

"Anton, I didn’t see the members from teams one and two. Are they on a mission?"

"Yes. Commander and team one are currently at the border of K city."

Mel nodded slowly. A few days ago, she found a GHOST trail at the border of K town and gave the info to Alex. Looks like they’re tracking the information she provided.

"Mel, should we start?" Anton asks.

They warmed up then started training as per Alex’s arrangement.

At the low speed, they ran around the field 20 times, and then they disappeared, running fast to the mountains, which at that time was still pitch black. They used a small flashlight with a bright light that is attached to their chest, one of the gadgets made by Mel.

In the expert training ground, the path is not as tricky as hell training. But the route for this expert training ground is still challenging, they have to pass through rivers, steep mountains, and several kilometers of paths with no trails at all.

Right now, they only doing extra exercises, not actual training for exams, so they don’t bring a bag that weighs 25 kilos.

However, they should achieve their target time. Anton and Mel must run for 45 KM on this demanding track in less than 2 hours.
