Chapter 111: Boyfriend?

In the past few days, Mel has been busy with her work at the office, training at XTeam, and of course, spending time with her man.

Time flies so fast. Without her knowing, Grandpa’s birthday has arrived.

Today she will go to Grandpa’s birthday party with Alex. But before that, she has to go to XTeam basecamp for a sudden meeting.

Mel wakes up early in the morning because Alex will pick her up a few hours later. She didn’t want Alex to wait for her. After waking up, she immediately went to the bathroom to take a shower.

Just as Mel came out of the bathroom, she heard a knock on the door.

"Come in!"

The door opened, and Grandma entered with a small box in her hand. "Girl, this is a gift for you."

Mel received the box and opened it. Her eyes brighten when she sees a necklace with a beautiful diamond pendant. "Grandma, this necklace is gorgeous." She was surprised, "This is, pink diamond? Grandma, this is very expensive, and there is a pair of earrings too? Why are you wasting your money to buy this jewelry? You know that I don’t like wearing jewelry like this."

"For my only granddaughter, any expensive jewelry is nothing for Grandma," She said while stroking Mel’s hair.

Mel was speechless.

Grandma continued, "Wear these tonight. Let your dad know. You’ve grown a lot better without him." Grandma’s face looks serious.

"Yes, Grandma." She accepts that idea.

"Are you going with Alex?"

"Yes. Alex will be here in a bit. We’ll go somewhere first, then to Tanner Mansion."

"Wonderful. So now, you don’t have to worry about anything. Alex and Grandpa Tanner will look after you." Mel smiled at Grandma.

After they chat a little, Grandma left Mel alone to prepare herself.

At 9 AM, Mel received a message from Alex. He informed her that he was already in front of her house.

After saying goodbye to Grandma, she hurried to see him. It’s been quite a while since the last time she saw him. The last time they met was 2 weeks ago when Alex visited her Apartment.

"Hurry, get in!"

Mel nodded then immediately got into the car.

After a long silence, finally, Alex asks her... "Have you had breakfast?"

"Yes. You?"

"Same."

They keep silent again.

A while later, he asks her again... "How was your company?"

Mel glance at him before saying, "Nothing special, we are still busy with digital bank affairs. The launch time had to be postponed. Many things had to be prepared in more details." She told him about the current development of her company, something she used to do before she met Andrew.

Alex nods.

"Then are you ready to go on a mission? I mean, are you physically ready?"

"Yes, I’m ready. But before that, I want to duel with you."

Alex raised his eyebrows.

Mel smiled, seeing Alex looked confused. She laughed then said, "Brother, the others are not interested in sparring with me. They are not all out. Or, am I starting to be on par with them?" Mel asked innocently.

Alex chuckled.

"OK. I also want to see how much your training progresses. And, how about your mental health... Is it better, I mean psychologically?"

"Hmm, in the past few months, I haven’t cried in my sleep anymore. Last month, the psychologist said I don’t need another consultation." She glanced at Alex, who was seriously looking at the road ahead. "Thanks, Brother, for introducing a psychologist to me. It helps me a lot."

"No problem."

"Brother, I have a question."

"Say it"

"Can I tell someone about my identity as a member of XTeam?"

Alex glanced at her, then returned to focus again, looking ahead.

"Grandma?" He asked.

"No."

"Hmm, you can. But you can’t say the details. Because our division is very confidential. Only the top military officers and the president know XTeam." He glanced at her again, then continued his words, "You can say that you entered the military as an analyst or digital consultant. No need to say ’XTeam.’ Do you understand?"

"Yes, brother, I understand."

"Who is that person you want to tell?" He asked curiously.

Mel was speechless. She still wasn’t ready to tell Alex that she currently had a boyfriend. But? She must say to him now.

"Boyfriend?"

"Hmm, yeah, my boyfriend!" She finally admitted.

Instantly Mel heard the sound of tires creaking loudly, and then their car stopped rapidly. She felt her body slam forward. Immediately, her chest ached from being hit by Alex’s sturdy arm, which keeps her safe from hitting the dashboard.

She was shocked. She could only close her eyes.

"Little sister Melanie...!!" In a flash, Alex thought how could his little sister have a boyfriend and didn’t care to tell her big brother here beforehand.

Mel heard Alex call her name. Slowly she opened her eyes, she saw Alex’s worried face, close to her.

"B-brother, what happened?" Said Mel in shock after Alex’s suddenly hit the brakes.

After seeing that Mel is OK, he felt relieved. With a calm voice, he said, "Sorry, Little sister, just now, I saw a deer crossing the road."

Mel "...."

’You think I’m a five years old child? I didn’t see any deer!!’ She could only scold him in her heart.

"Does your chest hurt?" Alex asks again when their car starts moving.

"No," Mel lied. Because now, her chest ached, and her breathing was a little bit heavy, but she didn’t say it. She was afraid to make Alex worry and feel guilty.

All the way to the base, they didn’t speak anymore. Alex was deep in thought. Meanwhile, Mel is strengthening her heart to attend Grandpa’s birthday party. It’s at Tanner Mansion, so this would be the first time she would set foot in that house after she left eleven years ago.

Not long after, they entered the XTeam basecamp and headed to the simple two-story building. They went straight to the meeting room, which was located on the second floor.
