Daily life of a cultivation judge
Chapter 1212 - 1212: Two groups (1)

Yang Qing's left brow raised slightly at the remark. "Your founder's will?"

"Yes," Xia Cangfu answered with a slight nod. His eyes remained on his bamboo juice, though his gaze seemed distant, like he was seeing another world in that cup.

"How much do you know about him?" he suddenly asked, looking up. "Our founder, I mean," he added.

"Only what Xia Fang told me," Yang Qing replied, then gave a brief overview, summarizing the key points Xia Fang had shared about their ancestor.

"Some of the doubts you have..." Xia Cangfu continued, his eyes flashing with insight. "They were formed when you came here, right?"

Yang Qing nodded. "Yes."

"I'm guessing one of them is how he lost his cultivation realm?"

"Indeed it is," Yang Qing admitted, looking at Xia Cangfu.

Is that awe I see on him? he wondered, surprised by the unconcealed look of awe and admiration in Xia Cangfu's eyes.

In a different context, he could understand that expression. Given all their ancestor had accomplished, it made sense that his descendants would regard him with deep reverence.

But right now, they were talking about his crippled cultivation base. Awe shouldn't have been anywhere near the dominant emotions on Xia Cangfu's face, or if it was, it should have at least been marred by sadness, regret, or unwillingness.

The fruits of the what if... Like what he had seen with Xia Fang. But that wasn't the case with Xia Cangfu. He had only one overwhelming emotion dominating his expression, and it was awe.

Given what he had learned about Silver Breath Peak and the talent caliber of its members, Yang Qing already suspected that the story Xia Fang had told him about her ancestor had holes in it. Seeing Xia Cangfu's expression only confirmed it further.

Xia Cangfu took a small sip of his bamboo juice before continuing. "How much do you love exploring cultivation arts?" he asked, his eyes shining with unconcealed fascination.

"I love it a lot," Yang Qing replied, his eyes reflecting the same radiance.

"Our ancestor was the same. One could say, even more so," said Xia Cangfu. "Those who come to this peak usually fall into two categories," he added, raising two fingers.

"There is the first group. Those that fall under this category are those who join because their souls yearn for the journey it offers. An endless road of exploring the beauty and wonder in all things related to cultivation arts, whether it be a pill-refining technique, a talisman-drawing art, or general cultivation methods that hold no other value beyond making life easier.

Everything and anything about cultivation arts and techniques captivates them like a spell," Xia Cangfu explained, pausing briefly.

"Then there is the second group. The ones who join because of the stature this peak holds, and the advantages that come with it," he said, his gaze drifting to the pavilions and pagodas around them.

All of them had the same design and were made entirely of wood. They looked like replicas of one another, unassuming even, given that some had planks so worn down they looked ready to fall off. Whether it was the flying eaves above, the entrance doors, or the walls themselves, one could see and feel the imprint of time etched into them.

This was part of what gave them their charm, but it wasn't the whole of it. As uniform as they appeared, in both design and materials, and even in how time had weathered them, there was one thing that made each of them uniquely distinctive: their aura, which gave them distinction as humans had when it came to their fingerprints.

Yang Qing had sensed it from the moment he arrived, and it had only grown more apparent the longer he stayed. He didn't know exactly what lay within those buildings, but he could infer that it was likely their contents that gave each structure its unique presence.

For instance, one of the pagodas had a still, tranquil aura about it, while another, for lack of a better term, gave off the feeling of an inflamed, sweaty sensation, similar to what he felt during body refinement training.

Based on that sensation, Yang Qing suspected the latter pagoda likely housed body refinement techniques and arts, along with other related supplementary knowledge. The contents might have been so high in number and so vast and diverse in content that the sheer enormity of it all imprinted itself on the pagoda, giving it that distinctive "scent" he sensed.

Seeing Xia Cangfu glance in the direction of those buildings, Yang Qing couldn't help but stir slightly. Maybe.. just maybe, his curiosity about what lay inside them was about to be answered.

"Countless cultivation arts, spanning all schools and covering different eras, are stored in these buildings," Xia Cangfu began.

"The collection is so vast that only Silver Head Peak can match us in number. And even then, there are countless cultivation arts here that you won't find on Silver Head Peak, while the reverse is far rarer," he continued.

"As long as you become a member of this peak, whether you're a seasoned elder or a newly joined member, you receive free, unfiltered access to all its contents," Xia Cangfu said, sighing lightly as memories of his own first time here rose to the surface.

"All?" Yang Qing asked, his eyes widening slightly in disbelief.

"Yes, all," Xia Cangfu reiterated.

Yang Qing looked around at the wooden pavilions, pagodas, and courtyards stretching as far as the eye could see. He could hardly believe it.

His throat felt dry, his hands turned clammy, and his neck strained with how far he was craning it to take everything in.

For a moment, he was half-tempted to leave the Order altogether and throw his lot in with the Silver Crane Sect.

This peak already felt like a paradise made just for him, and now... knowing it came with unrestricted access to everything it held, he couldn't deny it.

He was tempted. Very tempted.
