Chapter 231: Chapter 231 Guarantee

Sister Li patted her hand, noticing she was still carrying items, and said with deep gratitude, "Sister-in-law Shen’s kindness is witnessed by us all. Just express your concern and let her know that many people like her; tell her not to despair."

Yang PeiMin nodded and entered the Cui family’s home.

The layout of Cui’s house was also a one-bedroom, one living room, just like Luo Dahua’s. However, her living room had an extra bed, where Mrs. Cui and her two grandsons slept. The house looked messy, but it wasn’t dirty, probably because someone had helped clean it up, though things were just left lying around.

There was still a faint strange smell in the air, unidentifiable. Yang PeiMin, who had just prepared a cup of Milk Essence, felt a wave of nausea.

She braced herself and entered Gao Hong’s room, where a Military Wife was with her, trying to get her to eat something. Gao Hong sat on the edge of the bed, head bowed, silent.

Yang PeiMin couldn’t see her expression but felt her despondency. On entering, she greeted them, "Sister-in-law Cui, I came to see you. Have you had breakfast?"

The Military Wife shook her head upon seeing her. "She says she can’t eat."

Yang PeiMin placed a small bag of brown sugar on the small table beside them, "I brought some brown sugar. Why not make a warm cup for your stomach? How can you not eat?"

Sister-in-law Liu, another Military Wife, quickly made her a cup of sugared water and handed it to Gao Hong. "Drink it quick. Sister-in-law Shen cares about you and brought this especially to see you. Don’t let down sister-in-law’s kind intentions."

Now Gao Hong reacted, shaking her head. Sister-in-law Liu looked at Yang PeiMin helplessly and shook her head, "This is how she’s been. She hasn’t eaten since last night. She will collapse if this continues. I’ve said all I can. Sister-in-law, please talk to her. I need to go back and check on my son."

After saying this, she placed the sugared water in Yang PeiMin’s hand and walked out.

Yang PeiMin looked at Gao Hong, who appeared half-dead, then at the sugared water in her hand. Suppressing her frustration, she picked up a chair and sat next to Gao Hong, handing her the drink, "Sister-in-law Cui, how are you feeling? Any discomfort? Think about your parents; how heartbroken they would be if they knew your condition. You’re being unfilial acting this way toward yourself. Look, I’ve even made you some sugared water using your cup; it would be such a waste not to drink it. It upsets me too."

Gao Hong just shook her head again.

Yang PeiMin firmly looked at her for two seconds; at least she was reacting, which meant she was listening. "I heard you tried to commit suicide. Sister Li has been looking everywhere for people to persuade you. I didn’t want to come at first. I don’t like people who think like you do, or respect them. Just for such a trivial matter, you want to die? This situation might lead people to gossip or avoid you. But if you die, do you think they will stop talking? Or will they use your example to teach others wrongly?"

"You might think, ’When I’m dead, I won’t hear it anyway,’ right? But what about your parents? Your husband? How would they bear the pain? Not only grieving for your loss but also enduring the judgment you’ve brought them. Did your parents owe you something? They brought you into this world and raised you with difficulty, haven’t enjoyed any blessings from you, yet your death would leave them white-haired, sending off their black-haired child. Plus, they would have to face people’s speculative remarks. How could they bear that? If you hadn’t thought about this aspect and acted impulsively, it might have been excusable. But now that you’ve been saved, think carefully. If you still think death solves everything, then I must say you’re incredibly selfish!"

Tears fell onto Gao Hong’s legs as she bowed her head.

Yang PeiMin saw her this way but felt she wasn’t beyond help, "Wash your face, get some sleep, and tomorrow is a new day. Life is full of bumps; if you can just get through them, it’ll be okay. We don’t live for others. Maybe in ten or twenty years, with your own children and spouse by your side, you’ll look back and think, ’That was nothing,’ and be glad you didn’t do anything foolish."

Now Gao Hong lifted her head, her face tear-stained, and asked hesitantly, "I’ve been married over two years, and there’s still no sign in my belly. Can I still have children?"

Yang PeiMin handed her a damp towel from beside her, wiped her face, and nodded, "You can have them as long as you’re physically fit. Even if there’s a problem, we have hospitals. It might just be that your time hasn’t come, or maybe it’s not your issue. If you’re really anxious about having a child, you both could get checked out at the hospital. Your spouse is in the military, our medical costs at the military hospital wouldn’t be a concern. If there’s no issue, relax. If there is, get treatment. There’s nothing serious. The world doesn’t have just one path; if one is blocked, don’t give up—just change your angle, and maybe you’ll find another way out."

Gao Hong suddenly stood up, knelt before her, startling Yang PeiMin, who hurriedly helped her up, only to hear her plead, "Sister-in-law, can you promise me, ask everyone not to spread rumors about me anymore? I know I was wrong. I won’t do it again. I really made a mistake. Please forgive me. I won’t seek death anymore. Sister-in-law, you are a good person, please help me."

Yang PeiMin pulled her up with all her might, but Gao Hong, though thin, was surprisingly strong and refused to stand, insisting on a promise.

"Sister-in-law, stand up and talk. This way is killing me! Please don’t scare me; I can’t handle it."

"If you don’t promise, I won’t get up... Sister-in-law, please pity me..."

Is she also learning to be stubborn from her mother-in-law?

"Stand up first. I’ll call Sister Li in, talk to her about this. You see, I just arrived; I’m also young and don’t fully grasp all social niceties yet. Stand up, and let’s discuss this properly."

Gao Hong started sobbing, but she just would not get up.

Yang PeiMin loudly called for Sister Li at the door.

Sister Li, hearing her urgent call, thought something was amiss and quickly rushed in, surprised to see Gao Hong on the ground.

Yang PeiMin hastily said, "Sister Li, Sister Gao wants me to promise that no one will gossip about her anymore, or she won’t stand up..." she made a tearful face.

Sister Li frowned, bending down to help raise Gao Hong to the bed alongside Yang PeiMin.

Gao Hong continued to cry.

Then Sister Li urged her, "What were you thinking? Tell me."
