Chapter 191: A Moron.
Chapter 191: A Moron.
Jaguar, leader of the infamous Daggers gang, is a vicious man who earned his moniker from his bionic jaws and the way he uses them to bite into the heads of his enemies. A monster masquerading as a thirty-something year old white man with a chiseled body and pale blonde hair.
The moment he stepped out of the car, Finn’s entire body tensed up, his eyes widening. Staring at the screen projected on his OAM, he studied the monster a few more times as if trying to ensure he wasn’t mistaken.
[Jake: He really showed up...]
The boss of a gang wasn’t someone who could easily be tracked. Being the target of both the authorities and rival gangs, their schedules are usually kept a secret and changed regularly, making it very difficult to anticipate when and where they’ll show up.
Finn found a way to do it, however. That’s why he was here today, on the fifth floor of Noir Room, one of the many clubs that fall under the Dagger’s influence.
Shrinking the screen and pinning it to the corner of his vision, the boy reached into the inner pocket of his jacket and pulled out a simple handgun. There was nothing special about this one—just an average model that can be used by almost anyone. Still, a gun was a gun, and so long as it’s aimed at the right spot, it could still kill almost anyone.
Though he would have preferred to use the Blue Night for this, Finn had finally accepted that he wouldn’t be able to get it back from the accursed tomato head. At least not any time soon. He had already delayed the matter for far too long and didn’t want to push it back any more than this. He had to kill the bastard, and he had to do it now, otherwise-
The miniature screen suddenly vanished, and before question why it happened, everything in his field of vision turned white. The bright flash sent a jolt of pain through his eyes, but it was his understanding of what was happening that caused him to panic.
Someone threw a flashbang into his OAM, which would mean that not only did they lock on to his position, they also recognized him as an enemy and dove into his NIM without his notice.
The horror of it all erased the determination he had worked so hard to gather. His mind went into overdrive trying to find the mistake he had made, the oversight that had led to his presence being discovered, but before he could think of anything, something strange happened.
Despite having remained still after losing his sight, Finn somehow fell on his butt. He could have sworn that the floor disappeared from under him, but there were no sounds that suggested it broke, nor did it feel like he fell from a great height.
As confusion continued to fuel the chaos in his mind, something pressed on his mouth out of nowhere, freezing him entirely. The next moment, he heard a faint whisper in his ear.
"Bite me and I will kill you."
Finn recognized the voice almost instantly, but that did little to ease his distress.
"I will let go of you now. Keep it shut till your eyes recover."
The vast whiteness had already vanished, but it still took some time for its effects to recede. A few minutes later, Finn regained his sight only to be shocked once again. He was back on the rooftop of the building he had just infiltrated, somehow. The air vent he had used was nearby, and sitting close to it was a tomato head.
"You can see now, right?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. "Then move your ass. We’re getting out of here."
As he stood up and turned around to leave, Finn caught himself almost doing the same. He looked down and saw that the gun was still in his hands so, after a moment of thought, he raised his head and pointed it at the red-haired youth.
As if he had eyes on the back of his head, Dante came to and turned to look at him, his expression darkening.
"The hell do you think you’re doing?"
Finn didn’t answer, keeping his weapon aimed at Tomato Head’s torso. This way, even with his hands shaking, he still wouldn’t miss. Staring at him for a moment, Tomato Head clicked his tongue.
"Just look at you. You can’t even hold a gun properly. Did you seriously think you could kill a gang boss with that shaky aim?"
"..."
"Go ahead. Shoot." Turning to face him, Tomato Head spread his arms. " The bastards downstairs are on edge since the big boss is around, right? Even if you get me in the head, they’ll probably get to you before you can think of running." A smirk slowly spread on his face, the malice behind it unending. "You never killed anyone before, right? A little shit like you will probably be in shock for a couple weeks at least. You really aren’t ready for any of this."
Noticing his hands going down, Finn steadied his aim again. Sadly, everything he had just heard struck deep, making it very difficult not to see the truth in them.
"... why are you here?" He asked, realizing he wouldn’t be able to pull the trigger.
"To stop you from ruining my plans." Said Tomato Head. "I already told you we’re taking the bastards down. Couldn’t you wait for a little while?"
"I... I didn’t ask for your help..."
"You really are a moron, aren’t you? Who said I’m doing this for you?"
"..."
"I’m still gonna do it whether you’re in or not. It was never about you, moron. I just thought I would let you have that metal jaw so you would get off my back. But, hey, you already gave up on your dad’s gun. Guess I don’t have to bother with you again, right?"
Once again, the words cut so deep that Finn was unable to say anything back. Though he tried to fight it, his hands started to feel far too heavy. Eventually, he was forced to lower the gun, and his gaze went down with it. Even after everything, he was still weak, and he couldn’t do anything when his will was put to the test.
