Chapter 997: Chapter 994: Can’t Find the Person
Finally, having no other choice, Tong Xiaohua had to call Qin Ming.
"Uncle Ming, could you please help me check Yan Bo’s boarding records?"
The voice of Qin Ming, who sounded still quite awake, seemed shocked, "Xiaohua, what happened to Young Master Yan?"
"I don’t know, he sent me a message after eight saying he had arrived home. Usually, he would definitely call me around midnight, but he didn’t today. I texted him, but he didn’t reply. I couldn’t resist, so I called him directly, only to be told that his phone was turned off. I’m worried something might have happened to him."
Tong Xiaohua aired all her anxieties in one breath, and after she had finished, she let out a long sigh of relief.
"Is that so? Maybe something at home held him up for a moment, you’re just scaring yourself. I’ll have someone check his records now and get back to you later."
After more than ten minutes, Qin Ming called back.
"Xiaohua, Young Master Yan boarded normally, and surveillance cameras at Beijing Airport also captured him leaving the hall about twenty minutes after the flight arrived, roughly at eight. A tall man picked him up; it must have been his family’s driver or someone like that."
The results of Qin Ming’s investigation could not entirely reassure Tong Xiaohua, but at least she could confirm that he had safely returned to the Capital City.
That night, Tong Xiaohua tossed and turned, clutching her mobile phone until dawn, without closing her eyes.
During that time, she tried calling Yan Bo every twenty or thirty minutes. Still, the phone remained turned off.
She listlessly got out of bed, feeling immensely grateful that her parents were not at home. Otherwise, they would have been frightened to death by her ghostly appearance.
"Xiao Hua, what’s wrong with you? Are you sick?"
Uncle Yuan was quite frightened by her haggard appearance and reached out to feel her forehead.
"Uncle Yuan, I’m fine, just insomnia."
Uncle Yuan looked at her pityingly and shook his head helplessly, "Xiao Hua, even if you push yourself, you need to take care of your health!"
Uncle Yuan didn’t know that her insomnia was not due to work but because of Yan Bo.
Breakfast was laid out, but Tong Xiaohua hardly touched her chopsticks and only drank a cup of milk before listlessly putting down the bowl.
"Are you full?" Uncle Yuan looked at her worriedly.
"Hmm..."
Tong Xiaohua went back to her room and dialed once more the number which would normally be answered immediately but had remained turned off since last night, despite her countless attempts. She hoped optimistically that Yan Bo was just taking care of his mother, and therefore, had no time to charge his dead phone.
Of course, this reasoning was quite far-fetched; Yan Bo was not someone to be so careless.
Checking the time, it was already seven. Calling someone at this hour probably wouldn’t result in too severe a scolding.
Tong Xiaohua first called Tao Jia, and as she expected, the phone rang for a long time before it was picked up, "If this isn’t urgent, I’m going to kill you!"
A voice full of resentment came from the phone, clearly having been woken up by the persistent ringing.
"Jiajia, it’s me, Xiao Hua. Sorry for waking you up early, I just wanted to ask, do you know if Yan Bo has returned to the Capital City? Can you find him?"
Tong Xiaohua could no longer care about manners and directly stated her purpose.
From the other end came rustling sounds, and after a while, she finally heard Tao Jia’s voice, sounding a lot calmer, "Yan Bo is back? I’m not really sure. You can’t find him?"
"Yes, the last message he sent me was just past eight o’clock last night; after that, there was no word from him. My texts weren’t replied to, and my calls indicated his phone was off. Do you have any other way to find him?"
Tong Xiaohua felt a glimmer of hope surge within. Previously, Tao Jia mentioned that the Yan Family wasn’t far from the Tong Family.
"Unfortunately, I’m currently out of town. However, I can call his house to ask, or should I give you their phone number so you can call?"
Tao Jia was unaware of the quarrel that ensued the last time Yan Bo brought Tong Xiaohua to his family home in the Capital City; she assumed that Yan Bo had simply forgotten to give the Yan Family’s phone number to Tong Xiaohua.
"Please help me call and ask... I’ll wait for your call."
With a bitter taste in her mouth, Tong Xiaohua ended the call and hurriedly packed a bunch of baggage into her luggage.
She had made up her mind—if something really happened to Yan Bo or his mother, she would fly directly to the Capital City.
Halfway through packing, Tao Jia’s call came back.
"Xiao Hua, Yan Bo arrived home last night, but after ten o’clock, he took Aunt Qing to the hospital. According to Uncle Cui, Aunt Qing’s illness has worsened."
After thanking Tao Jia, Tong Xiaohua quickly finished packing her luggage and rushed out of the house, dragging it behind her.
"Xiao Hua, what’s this all about?" Uncle Yuan hurried over and stopped her upon seeing her in this hurried state.
"Uncle Yuan, Yan Bo’s mother is ill; I’m going over to see her. Please take care of things at home. I’ll ask Uncle Qin to help with the rest."
As the car slowly departed the Tong Family’s gates, Tong Xiaohua first asked Qin Ming over the phone to book the fastest flight to Beijing for her. She instructed him on a few work-related matters, then anxiously urged Yang to drive faster.
Her flight landed on time at Beijing International Airport at twelve noon. As soon as she turned on her phone, she received a message from Tao Jia.
Tao Jia sent over the address of the hospital where Yan’s mother was admitted and a brief description of her illness. Without a moment’s hesitation, Tong Xiaohua hailed a taxi and headed straight for the hospital indicated in the message.
The taxi stopped at the hospital entrance. Tong Xiaohua leaped out, eager to rush inside, but Yang, who had come with her, grabbed her while pulling the luggage and said, "Miss, perhaps we should buy some gifts if you’re going to visit the sick?"
Even though Tong Xiaohua hadn’t told Yang the details, he had guessed the gist from her conversations on the phone.
Tong Xiaohua hadn’t slept all night and had spent the entire flight worried, which left her looking rather pale.
Her mind wasn’t fully functioning either, but she realized the necessity of bringing gifts thanks to Yang’s reminder.
With Yang’s company, she purchased some nutritional supplements, a fruit basket, and fresh flowers from a supermarket near the hospital and entered the building with her hands full.
Yan’s mother wasn’t a commoner; therefore, she was staying in the Special Intensive Care Unit.
Following Tao Jia’s instructions, Tong Xiaohua told the nurse that she was a Miss from the Tao Family. The nurse eyed her carefully; even though she looked sweet and not like a bad person, and Yan Family’s young masters and misses had their names listed among the patient’s relatives, the nurse still cautiously made a phone call.
She spoke softly into the receiver for a few moments, then covering the mouthpiece, she asked Tong Xiaohua, "May I ask which Miss Tao you are?"
"Tao Jia!" All these details were provided by Tao Jia in her message.
Tong Xiaohua felt nothing amiss about this procedure, as she remembered having been so cautious when her own mother was hospitalized.
The nurse carefully checked the details before allowing Tong Xiaohua to go in, but under no circumstances would she let Yang enter.
Yang frowned, seeming wanting to say something, but Tong Xiaohua gave him a reassuring look, "Yang, just wait for me outside; it’s alright."
