Chapter 969: Chapter 966: Will always be with you
Tong Xiaohua brought over several gifts, and aside from the snacks and the cheongsam sent to Yan’s mother, the rest remained securely placed in the storage cabinet.
As Yan Bo led Tong Xiaohua past them, he first picked up the coat and scarf lying on top to dress Tong Xiaohua, then he himself put on his coat and picked up the gifts that hadn’t been given away.
Tong Xiaohua’s face still bore a hint of bewilderment, as if she hadn’t yet accepted this abrupt transition.
Yan Bo smiled at her, seemingly unperturbed as he said,
"The gifts you bought weren’t cheap, we can’t just give them away to be wasted. Come on, I’ll take you to eat something delicious."
Leading her out of the main house, they both paused in the corridor while Yan Bo took a deep breath.
"Xiao Hua, I’m sorry you had to suffer!"
Now regaining some normalcy, Tong Xiaohua met his gaze and shook her head lightly, "If we really get down to it, it’s hard to say who’s to blame for all this."
Tong Xiaohua knew that if she had just been a child from a common family, today’s treatment would probably have been completely different.
Yet, she was born into the Tong Family, a family that appeared to be fundamentally incompatible with the aristocratic Yan Family.
After they looked deeply into each other’s eyes for several seconds, they smiled simultaneously at the end.
It seemed they had both understood what the other’s eyes were saying, holding hands, they slowly strolled out of the Yan Family compound, composed and unhurried.
In the area where the Yan Family estate was located, there were many nationally renowned restaurants, and Yan Bo brought Tong Xiaohua to one that she had long heard about.
However, even though both wore smiles on their faces, it was clear neither had much of an appetite. After sitting down and ordering casually, they stopped eating halfway through their meal.
After paying the bill, Yan Bo packed up the remaining food to take back to the hotel, thinking it could be eaten as a midnight snack if hunger struck in the night.
Back in the hotel suite, each went back to their own room to take a bath.
Though they were dressed warmly, the temperature in Capital City was indeed low, and after walking outside for a while, even Yan Bo, who had lived in Capital City for more than a decade or two, felt unbearably cold.
This day had been filled with drama, and Tong Xiaohua still had an unreal feeling as if in a dream by the time she entered her room.
At this moment, she desperately needed a way to expel and banish the restlessness and confusion in her heart.
Fortunately, the hotel was well-equipped, with each room not only having bathroom facilities but also a sauna room.
She changed into a bathrobe, walked barefoot into the sauna room, adjusted the temperature and time, sat down on the long couch, and leaned against the wall with her eyes closed.
The temperature in the room steadily climbed, and the sensation of heat slowly seeped from the surface of her skin deep into her bones.
And those troubling thoughts in her mind seemed to be steamed away from her brain, little by little.
Gradually, her mind became muddled, as if she could remember nothing...
With a "ding", signaling the end of the set time, Tong Xiaohua stood up with her body feeling sticky.
After sweating profusely, not only did her body feel more relaxed, but she herself felt considerably lighter!
"Why is your face so red?"
When Tong Xiaohua came out of the bath into the living room, Yan Bo, who was sitting cross-legged on the sofa flipping through something, stared intently at her face.
Tong Xiaohua touched her still-warm face and laughed, "I steamed in the sauna for half an hour. Why don’t you try it too? It feels very refreshing afterward!"
Yan Bo had been worried that she was sobbing secretly inside, taking almost an hour to finish bathing without coming out.
Now seeing her smile brightly, her eyes shining, and her usual vigor and spirit restored, the anxiety in his heart eased slightly.
"Is it really that helpful? Then I’ll go have a steam later."
Yan Bo patted the sofa beside him, indicating Tong Xiaohua to come sit next to him.
Tong Xiaohua sat down beside him with ease, leaning her head towards him to glance at the data in his hands.
The data was densely packed with numbers.
Lately, Tong Xiaohua had been busy checking and verifying the bank’s accounts; the mere sight of numbers made her forehead throb with pain.
"Checking the accounts?"
She had no intention of spying on the secrets of his company. After a quick glance, she wrapped her arms around him and shifted her gaze away.
Yan Bo didn’t seem to mind her curiosity, "Yes, it’s a cost accounting sheet for raw materials of a project."
Tong Xiaohua let out a sound of acknowledgment and rested her head on his shoulder, whispering, "Then you continue, I’ll just lean on you like this for a while."
Yan Bo turned his head and kissed her face, "Alright, I’ll be with you once I’m done with this sheet."
Tong Xiaohua said no more, closing her eyes, while the rhythmic sound of his breathing and the occasional rustling of paper filled her ears.
Her heart, which had been adrift for the better part of the day, found inexplicable calm in these subtle sounds.
Perhaps what they call companionship isn’t always about braving through storms and fires together.
Just like now, with one person reviewing documents, while the other quietly cuddles up, taking comfort in the warmth of his body for a light rest.
This too is a fine form of companionship.
The course of life has its peaks and valleys. One can accompany through loud and wild adventures, or by attentively listening to the sound of time passing quietly, second by second. Only then can it be considered a long and enduring companionship, right?
"Yan Bo..."
Tong Xiaohua kept her eyes closed, her soft call sounding like a murmur in a dream.
Yan Bo felt a slight warmth brush past his ear, causing him to shiver involuntarily.
"Hmm?"
He lifted his head and saw the person leaning on his shoulder with closed eyes, assuming it was simply sleep talk, he gently stroked her head and returned to the accounting sheet he hadn’t finished reviewing.
"I’ll always be with you, even if Uncle and Aunt never agree..."
Tong Xiaohua’s voice was still low, but each word was crystal clear, obviously not sleep talk.
Yan Bo abruptly lifted his head, his sharp gaze landing on her charming face.
"Xiao Hua..." He was moved beyond words for a moment.
"If Uncle thinks my family background will affect them, then we... we don’t have to get married. That way, we probably won’t affect them, right?"
The words from Tong Xiaohua were not the result of deep contemplation, but had just suddenly bubbled up.
For a man like Yan Bo, even without marriage, even without the security of marriage, she believed he would make her live happily ever after.
Yan Bo felt both moved and ashamed; he moved the data aside, reached over to encircle her waist, and lifted her from the sofa to sit on his lap, face to face.
Tong Xiaohua naturally wrapped her arms around his neck, and he cupped her face with both hands, his dark eyes intently gazing into hers, "Fool, why are you so foolish?"
