Chapter 914: Chapter 911: Quite a Figure

Tong Xiaohua’s room, just like her personality, was so simple it bordered on austere.

The first thing that caught the eye was a large bed with black and white stripes, next to it a small bedside cabinet, not a large wardrobe stood on one side of the bed, and at the foot of the bed was a desk with some books laid out on it. Near the balcony, there was a small bar, which seemed to have some wine on it, but Yan Bo doubted it was anything but a façade.

After all, with a temperament like Tong Xiaohua’s, it hardly seemed like she was the type to enjoy sipping a few drinks in her leisure time; moreover, she often worked until late into the night—when would she have the time for wine?

Yan Bo’s gaze swept around the room, which was as tidy as any man’s, and he felt a pang of sympathy for Tong Xiaohua.

In her bloom of youth, she should have been enjoying carefree days shopping with girlfriends, dating boyfriends, and watching movies.

However, her life was filled with either the hectic or violent and bloody matters of the Tong Family, leaving no room for the freedom and beauty a young girl in her prime should have.

"Come in, what’s the matter? Is there a tiger inside?"

Hearing his words, Tong Xiaohua left the door open, walked past the desk, and pulled out a chair to signal him to sit.

Yan Bo walked over but didn’t sit down. Instead, he leaned against the desk and casually flipped through the books she had laid out on it.

"Quite the studious student, still reviewing when you come back?"

The book Yan Bo flipped through was one of her university textbooks, in which many sections had been marked with black lines and annotations.

"I still take a look from time to time. Although it’s all theoretical knowledge, when it comes down to it, it’s not as practical as what you’ve told me."

Tong Xiaohua couldn’t quite articulate how she felt—university life for her was more than just studying; it was also a place where she could experience what a normal life might be like.

There, she was just freshman Tong Xiaohua; she could forget all the Tong Family’s problems and simply live her student life.

Yan Bo turned his head and silently observed her.

She seemed very calm, without a trace of grievance or resentment. It seemed that she had long been mentally prepared for being the eldest child of the Tong Family, and even though she yearned for a normal life, she still accepted reality and dutifully followed the path her father had set for her.

The calmer she was, the more uncomfortable Yan Bo felt.

He reached out gently and took her into his arms.

Tong Xiaohua didn’t quite understand why Yan Bo had grown silent. Being pulled into his arms was not unwelcome to her—after all, it had been several days since they’d spent time together privately, and she indeed missed his embrace.

Tong Xiaohua was unaware of Yan Bo’s thoughts. She buried her head in his chest and, after rubbing a few times, actually detected a faint scent of smoke. But he shouldn’t smoke, right?

She squirmed in his arms like a mole for a while, then finally raised her head and looked at him.

"Hey, do you smoke?"

Yan Bo lowered his eyes to see her frowning slightly and couldn’t help but lift his hand to caress her furrowed brow.

"I don’t smoke, why do you ask?"

Tong Xiaohua tugged at his windbreaker’s collar, "Then smell yourself, there’s a scent of smoke."

Yan Bo gently pushed her away, raised his hand, and sniffed. There it was—a light, almost imperceptible scent of smoke in his nose.

"My friend’s a chain-smoker. I was at the hotel with him all day drafting a proposal; I took a short nap at noon, and I guess he must have worn my windbreaker when he went out to buy something."

Tong Xiaohua gave an "Oh" in response.

"Why? Do you really dislike men who smoke?"

Tong Xiaohua neither denied nor confirmed.

"My dad smokes too, I wouldn’t say I hate it, but I just don’t like it."

Yan Bo felt that if he hadn’t known Tong Xiaohua’s background from the investigation data early on, based purely on her character and everyday habits, he would definitely consider her a well-cultured young lady from a reputable family.

"Xiao Hua, do you take after your Uncle Tong more or your Aunt Tong?"

Yan Bo made Tong Xiaohua sit in a chair, and he himself sat askew on the desk.

Tong Xiaohua had never thought about this question, she tilted her head and pondered for a moment, "In terms of personality and the way I handle things, I’m more like my dad. Actually, I’ve always admired my mom. I think my mom has such an elegant temperament, but unfortunately, you can’t find a trace of my mom in me."

Tong Xiaohua felt somewhat disheartened and resigned.

But Yan Bo didn’t agree with her, "I think you resemble Aunt Tong more, although you definitely have more of Uncle Tong’s personality. But at first glance, you and Aunt Tong have a similar temperament."

As Yan Bo spoke, he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her closer into his embrace.

She gently pressed her head against him, her face rubbing against his abdomen, and felt it was firm and resilient.

Tong Xiaohua had always seen Yan Bo as having a bit of a scholarly businessman’s air, but the feel of his abdomen surprised her. She paused for a second, then reached out her hand to touch it, trying to confirm if it was just her imagination.

When her hand touched it, she could clearly feel his well-defined abs.

"What are you feeling?" Yan Bo’s voice came with a hint of amusement, and Tong Xiaohua looked up at him with a smile.

"Who would’ve thought, you’re pretty well-built." Her disheartenment and helplessness were completely overshadowed.

"I’m not too bad with my hands either..." Yan Bo said, looking at her with a half-teasing, half-serious expression.

Tong Xiaohua was skeptical and hesitated for a moment. Her hand moved around his abdomen, and at that point, she could almost confirm that he had at least six firm abs. But to say he had good physical skills—that must be a joke.

"You’ve worked out at the gym, right? But still, it’s quite impressive."

Tong Xiaohua was no stranger to men with six or eight packs, especially in Tong Village where robust men were plentiful.

But Yan Bo was a young master, and besides, with his usual gentle smile, of course his abs couldn’t have been developed through fighting.

Yan Bo shook his head, "These weren’t trained in the gym, they were trained through practical combat."

"Practical combat? Don’t tell me you’ve been in the Special Forces?"

Tong Xiaohua said this mostly in jest.

Unexpectedly, Yan Bo nodded, "You could say that..."

Tong Xiaohua completely pulled away from his embrace, looking at him in astonishment, "You’re kidding, right? I thought you studied abroad?"

Yan Bo didn’t know how to explain it to her, he ruffled her hair and briefly mentioned it.

"It was before studying abroad, I actually spent some time in a Special Forces camp."

People from his Yan Family had basically all had similar experiences, including his second sister, Yan Su.

Tong Xiaohua’s eyes widened like copper bells, wanting to ask something, but then she felt that Yan Bo didn’t want to delve deeper, and thought that since it had something to do with the Special Forces, there must be some secrets that couldn’t be revealed.

Therefore, Tong Xiaohua stopped at that point, feeling it was not appropriate to probe further.

Inwardly, she felt that Yan Bo was so impressive for having spent time in the Special Forces.
