Chapter 912: Chapter 909: Nothing but Love for the House Extends to the Crows on its Roof
It had not been easy for Yan Bo to finally pacify her, and the bodyguards from Tong Family had picked up the luggage early in the morning. Yan Bo was simply responsible for happily holding Tong Xiaohua’s hand as they got into the car.
Yan Bo stretched comfortably in the car, then leaned over and gave Tong Xiaohua a peck on the lips.
"Ah... having a girlfriend really is different... no need to take a taxi back in the dead of night, besides, the feeling of being picked up by a beauty is truly awesome!"
He looked quite smug, even a bit self-satisfied, with a blissful smile in his eyes, shining brightly.
Tong Xiaohua gave him another look and pinched him hard on his waist.
"There’s something even more awesome!" Tong Xiaohua said with a hint of reluctance.
Looking at her expression, she seemed somewhat hesitant.
Yan Bo was curious and, ignoring the pain in his waist from the pinch, drew closer to her face, studying her carefully, "What could be more awesome? Could it be that tonight you’re planning to cook me something delicious?"
Yan Bo knew that Tong Xiaohua’s hands never touched spring water; obviously, he was teasing her.
Tong Xiaohua was self-aware, "I certainly can’t cook, so don’t get your hopes up! But, my mom did instruct Uncle Guan to make enough Midnight Snack for you too. She wants you to stay over at our place tonight, to save you the trouble of traveling back and forth."
Yan Bo understood that his future mother-in-law was worried about him coming back late, and having to hurry over early the next morning, so she had him stay at the Tong Family home tonight, to leave together for the Resort the next day.
"Aunt Tong is so nice!"
The thought of spending the night in close conversation with Tong Xiaohua until bedtime, instead of just relying on phone calls to relieve the longing, Yan Bo’s affection for his future mother-in-law soared.
"Yeah, she’s so nice that I, her daughter, am getting a bit jealous!"
Tong Xiaohua seemed to be jealous, but in reality, she was very happy.
Having her boyfriend liked by her mother proved that her judgment was really good!
"Jealous of what? Aunt Tong is only extending her love for the house to the crow. Because I am your boyfriend, she loves you, that’s why she’s good to me."
It had to be said, Yan Bo was really good at sweet-talking people, especially women.
Tong Xiaohua glanced at him, "Maybe not necessarily, you’ve charmed my mom so happily, it’d be difficult for her not to like you."
Tong Xiaohua’s words further indicated that Yan Bo, as the prospective son-in-law, had already gained the approval of his future mother-in-law.
On the way, the couple who hadn’t seen each other for a few days went from talking about Midnight Snack to discussing mom, and eventually, somehow, they ended up whispering sweet nothings to each other.
The driver, Brother Yang, was concentrating on driving and could only faintly hear the soft laughter and murmurs of Miss and her future brother-in-law from the back seat, the rest was all unclear.
Yan Bo’s business trip had been a last-minute decision, but despite the rush, he still considerately bought a bunch of local specialties to honor his future father-in-law and mother-in-law.
Yan Bo was sent by Aunt Tong to take a shower, she had slept a lot during the day, and now, was sitting in the living room with Tong’s father, looking at the gifts Yan Bo had brought.
Tong’s father was examining the local specialties, while Aunt Tong was looking at a purple clay teapot about the size of a palm.
"Yun Xiang, come take a look at this teapot."
Tong’s father leaned in to take a glance, "I don’t understand these things..."
Although he had known Shen Weiyao for at least twenty years, he had not picked up her elegance and appreciation for fine things. In his own words, he was still a rough man.
"This pot, I reckon, is at least a hundred years old, and it’s a rare treasure with very few remaining in existence. Xiao Yan’s gift is too precious!"
Shen Weiyao felt the pain on behalf of Yan Bo while expressing endless praise and cherishing of the exquisite little teapot.
Tong Xiaohua walked out of the bedroom, heard this appraisal, and, just like her father, who didn’t understand antiques at all, couldn’t help but become curious. She leaned over the back of the sofa, propping her head on her mother’s shoulder and seriously looked at the teapot in her hands.
After tens of seconds, Tong Xiaohua didn’t think there was anything special about the teapot.
"Mom, there’s nothing strange about this, right? I see a lot of similar purple sand teapots at our Tea House!"
Her mother turned her head and gave her precious daughter a look, "It’s so hard for Xiao Yan to put up with someone as uncultured as you."
Her mother’s words made her dad lift his head, and their gazes met. Father and daughter simultaneously revealed a knowing smile.
"Mom, this is called being real! If I don’t understand, then I don’t understand, there’s no shame in that." Tong Xiaohua admitted that she indeed didn’t possess such elegant demeanor.
"Yes, if you don’t understand, then you don’t understand. That’s being real, much better than pretending to know!" Her dad wholeheartedly agreed with his precious daughter’s words.
Her mother shook her head helplessly and glanced at the father and daughter as if looking at fools.
"You two must think I’m foolish. Our Tea House has so many similar purple sand teapots, so why would I cherish this one in particular?"
The father and daughter nodded repeatedly, "Yeah, why?"
"All those are replicas. Even if the craftsmanship is exquisite and perfect, they can only be considered high-quality replicas. Finding a genuine one like this one I’m holding, with such perfect quality, is extremely difficult. Anyway, to date, aside from one I’ve seen in the National Museum, this is the second one I have come across from the same era and of similar style."
Tong Xiaohua was now thoroughly convinced.
"Mom, I’m feeling very insecure now, what should I do?"
Tong Xiaohua said this as she wrapped her arms around her mother’s neck from behind, nestling her head in her mother’s nape.
"Hm?" Her mother obviously didn’t understand her daughter’s point.
"Mom, Xiao Yan is too good at winning your favor! Are you going to just see him as your son and not dote on me anymore?"
"Pfft!"
Her mother reached back to pat her head, "You really are still like a child, only Xiao Yan spoils you this much."
"Auntie Tong, how have I spoiled Xiao Hua?"
Yan Bo, fresh from a bath and feeling refreshed, overheard her mother’s last remark and came over, asking with a smile.
"I’m jealous! My mom treats you even better than she treats me!" Tong Xiaohua semi-seriously glared at Yan Bo, the "culprit" who caused this fuss.
Her dad added fuel to the fire. Spreading his hands, he also said, "I’m jealous too..."
Her mother turned around to give each of the father and daughter a stern look, then stood up, unable to resist teasing them.
"Just have some midnight snacks, you’ll stop complaining once you’re full."
Though claiming to have a midnight snack, Shen Weiyao herself didn’t eat a bite, instead sitting on the side, holding the purple sand teapot and carefully examining it.
"Xiao Yan, this teapot must have cost you quite a bit, didn’t it?"
Yan Bo was chewing on a bun and shook his head to deny it, "Auntie Tong, you don’t have to worry, I exchanged something for this purple sand teapot, it didn’t cost any money."
Originally, even though her dad often seemed awkward around Yan Bo, he had more admiration than criticism for him. Upon hearing his words, his instincts made him frown.
"Xiao Yan, what did you exchange for it?" He could only assume that Yan Bo was lying.
