Chapter 865 - 862 She Can’t Control Her Own Heart

Chapter 865: Chapter 862 She Can’t Control Her Own Heart

She couldn’t say why, but clearly, she wasn’t very familiar with him.

They had only met a few times and shared a few meals together.

Yet, she seemed to have a strange fondness for him.

Even an uncontrollable dependence she couldn’t manage herself.

Being drawn to someone she had only known for a short while, someone she couldn’t even claim to understand well—that was dangerous, she knew.

But she just couldn’t control her own heart!

"Alright then, whatever you want to eat tomorrow, it’s on me!" Yan Bo tried not to sound too excited.

"I’ll think about it and message you tomorrow."

Tong Xiaohua agreed with Yan Bo and, in front of him, took out her phone and dialed.

"Uncle Ming, Yan Bo and I are having a couple of drinks in the office and discussing some business; after that, I’ll be counting on you."

"Mm, all right, I’ll go back early to rest."

Tong Xiaohua hummed and hawed through the conversation, and finally hung up the phone, then gave Yan Bo a helpless smile, "My mom and dad aren’t home, and Uncle Ming is fussing like an old mother hen."

Her tone sounded like a complaint, but there was a faint smile in her eyes and brows.

"Uncle Ming and Uncle Yuan are all very good to you."

Technically, based on their level of acquaintance, Yan Bo shouldn’t be saying such things.

After all, he was just friends with Tong Xiaohua, whereas Uncle Ming and Uncle Yuan were like family, having watched her grow up.

But in Yan Bo’s heart, he didn’t know when he started to consider Tong Xiaohua as one of his own.

Perhaps, from the moment he decided to disregard conventional views and rashly hold a large bouquet of flowers outside Tong village to see her, she had already been admitted into the category of his own people?

Tong Xiaohua didn’t seem to think there was anything wrong with Yan Bo’s comment; she let out a long sigh and said, "Yeah... they really have been very good to me."

It was precisely because their kindness was sincere that she had borne with her insomnia without daring to take sleeping pills again during those sleepless nights.

But even Tong Xiaohua herself hadn’t expected that she, normally so easygoing, would experience insomnia.

So, after several sleepless nights, she had a realization.

Whatever happens, let it be and just go with the flow; there’s no need to make things difficult for oneself.

That’s why, when she heard Manager Shen saying that Yan Bo and a bunch of subordinates were drinking in the VIP room, she didn’t think twice before going to find them.

"They are all uncles who watched you grow up?" Yan Bo guessed.

"Mhm, they all have been helping my dad with his work ever since I can remember."

Qin Ming and the others were all brothers who had fought side by side with Father Tong to build their enterprise, "In a few more years, they’ll retire and enjoy life just like my dad."

Speaking of her father, Tong Xiaohua couldn’t help feeling a touch of melancholy.

"It’s the cycle of old and new, that’s the rule. While Uncle Ming and the others are still able to help you, you should quickly cultivate some capable assistants," Yan Bo urged.

The meals that Yan Bo and Tong Xiaohua had eaten together, for the most part, were actually spent discussing management issues, so this advice didn’t feel presumptuous—it rather seemed like guidance and a reminder.

Tong Xiaohua nodded, "I know, the key is, right now, there aren’t many of the brothers who are willing to truly respect and listen to me!"

This was the first time Tong Xiaohua had so openly expressed these feelings to Yan Bo, clearly showing she trusted him greatly.

Yan Bo could distinctly sense the change in her attitude from what she said, and he felt a secret joy in his heart.

It seemed that after being left to think for a few days, she really had come around to understanding some things. Although, during these days, he had been feeling pretty anxious himself.

"Let’s take it slow. Everything has a process," Yan Bo said soothingly, with a gentle tone.

Tong Xiaohua hummed in agreement, feeling as if the gloom that had lingered over her these past days had dissipated a good deal.

She pushed the empty glass toward Yan Bo, who bent down to fetch a bottle of soda water from the cabinet below the bar, pouring her half a glass and pushing it back to her.

"That should be just about enough. Once you finish this glass, I’ll have the driver take you home," he said still gently, but with an air of unmistakable firmness.

Tong Xiaohua obediently picked up the glass and took a sip, then suddenly remembered something.

"Right, why didn’t you call me when you brought your subordinates here for drinks?"

When she had just heard Manager Shen say that Young Master Yan had arrived, her heart had thumped wildly, wondering why he had come here without telling her—was he still angry with her?

Yan Bo stared at her intently, uncertain whether her question was just casual small talk, or if she was actually paying close attention to his every move.

Tong Xiaohua didn’t look away, meeting his gaze openly.

Yan Bo clearly saw disapproval and unhappiness in her eyes, leading him to reproach himself.

She was just a little girl throwing an occasional tantrum; what was he, a grown man, doing taking it so seriously? What was the point of being so stubborn?

Alright then, now he had made her unhappy and on top of that, he felt distressed about it. Why bother with all this?

"I’m sorry!"

Yan Bo reached out, gently ruffling her hair.

Tong Xiaohua was startled by his gesture and stared at him with wide eyes.

Yan Bo gave her a quick smile and swiftly withdrew his hand.

"Weren’t I about to call you just as you pushed the door open?" he said, and it wasn’t exactly a lie.

Although, at the time, he had been simply eager to know about her health, the intent to call her had been genuine.

"Besides, I only came back from the Capital City this afternoon and was a bit tired. I hadn’t planned to join them for drinks, but then I heard they were here, so I rushed over. Right when you came in, I had just started drinking with them, two or three glasses at most."

After hearing his explanation, Tong Xiaohua grudgingly accepted it.

Once Tong Xiaohua had finished her half glass of soda water, Yan Bo urged her to go home.

Since they had already arranged to have lunch together the next day, Yan Bo didn’t want to stay too late, especially since Tong Xiaohua really looked like she needed a good rest.

With good grace, Tong Xiaohua let him accompany her to the parking lot. After getting into the car, she held onto the car door and said to him, "Didn’t you walk here? Get in, let the driver take you back first."

Yan Bo had originally planned to go back to check on his staff, but now he found himself longing for more time with her. After hesitating for a moment, he finally ducked his head and climbed into the car.

"Brother Yang, this is Young Master Yan from Yanhuang Real Estate. Please drop him off at Yanhuang Real Estate first," she instructed.

The bar was only a long street away from Yanhuang Real Estate; it had taken Yan Bo over ten minutes to walk there, but now, it took only a few minutes by car before they stopped in front of the building where Yanhuang Real Estate was located.

Yan Bo got out of the car, bent over, and instructed the person inside, "Send me a message when you get home!"

Such a request was something Yan Bo would not have dared to make before.

Now, saying it made him a bit nervous, but Tong Xiaohua smiled and waved at him, "Okay, good night!"

Yan Bo had never expected that a simple outing to entertain a subordinate would lead to a reconciliation with Tong Xiaohua—and even more remarkable, their relationship seemed to have progressed further than before.
