Chapter 848 - 845 Why Are You Being Polite with Me
Chapter 848: Chapter 845 Why Are You Being Polite with Me
Tong Xiaohua lifted her head and saw the undisguised expression of disappointment on his face. Suddenly, she questioned herself if she had done something wrong.
"It’s about time; shall we go to the restaurant?" she tried her best to soften her tone.
This was actually her way of showing vulnerability.
Yan Bo looked at her, thinking she was avoiding his apology.
He sincerely repeated what he had said before again.
"I’m sorry, I was too abrupt just now!"
Tong Xiaohua moved her lips, wanting to say something, but then she heard him continue, "I don’t have any experience in pursuing girls, so if I do anything that makes you uncomfortable or upset, you must tell me."
Yan Bo spoke very earnestly, and Tong Xiaohua’s prior doubts turned into guilt.
She lowered her eyes to look at the delicate flowers she was holding.
Calling herself and him strangers wasn’t an overstatement, yet he cherished her and treated her with such care, so what was there to be dissatisfied with?
From the standpoint of their relationship, he had no obligation to do these things for her, and she, by what right, could be petulant with him?
With these thoughts, all the barriers and awkwardness Tong Xiaohua had in her mind dissipated.
She smiled at him, "It’s okay, I’m just being too petty and moody. Let’s go, we’ll go eat! You’re welcome to eat your fill later, don’t be polite with me!"
Yan Bo didn’t know her temperament well yet—for all, they’d spent less than ten hours together in total.
Seeing her interacting with him freely and without resentment, he even secretly despised himself a little for being overly nervous.
In front of him, she was but a child, treating him with an unguarded heart; he, too, should be like her, opening his heart to her completely.
Although, for him, it was not an easy task because from a young age, he had been in an environment full of scheming and deceit, where wearing a mask of hypocrisy and speaking only a fraction of the truth to everyone, reading the room, and such social skills had basically become instinctive.
Of course, he rarely took the initiative to flatter others, but he also rarely offended anyone.
Like what had happened just now, a loss of composure made uncontrollably, was something that rarely ever happened to him.
Yan Bo stood up, gave her a smile, "Don’t blame yourself; I was the one who overthought it!"
Because of his concern for her, he was careful about everything he said and did, fearing that the slightest transgression would scare her away.
Tong Xiaohua wasn’t one to hold grudges. After both had reflected upon themselves properly, they exchanged smiles, settled the bill, and headed towards the exit.
The restaurant wasn’t far from the coffee shop, just a few dozen meters down the sidewalk and a left turn into an alley.
"Shall we walk there?" Yan Bo glanced at the man standing in front of the coffee shop.
This man, he had seen him the day before, was Tong Xiaohua’s driver and bodyguard.
Tong Xiaohua glanced at the driver and nodded, "Yeah, let’s walk."
Yan Bo graciously stepped aside to let her walk closer to the inner side of the sidewalk. After a few steps, he pointed to the building across the street and said to Tong Xiaohua, "My company is on the 20th and 21st floors of that building, and my office is on the 21st floor. If you have time, you can come over for a visit."
Tong Xiaohua responded with a "Hmm" as she held a large bunch of fresh flowers, feeling as though everyone’s gaze followed her.
Yan Bo noticed her discomfort, turned his head to look at her closely, and silently, reached over to take the flowers from her.
Tong Xiaohua felt more at ease and remembered what he had just mentioned, so she asked out of curiosity, "So, do you have many employees? They must be mostly young people, right?"
Yan Bo nodded, "Yes, they’re mostly in their twenties, fresh graduates. Why, do you want to meet them?"
Tong Xiaohua was indeed curious about the personnel makeup of a regular company. Surely it would be different from the Tong Family’s businesses. Apart from the staff at KTV tending towards youth, the rest were mostly rugged men in their thirties and forties.
"No, I was just asking casually."
As the two chatted, they unconsciously turned off the main road and onto a sidewalk that led into an alleyway.
The two bodyguards who usually followed closely behind Tong Xiaohua kept their distance behind them.
The meal was just as delightful, if not more harmonious than the day before, given that the two had grown much more familiar with each other and the topics of conversation had widened considerably.
The dishes were once again chosen by Yan Bo, as Tong Xiaohua had said his selections suited her palate.
Once more, it was proven that Yan Bo had a better understanding of food than Tong Xiaohua.
Tong Xiaohua had overeaten again, but this time, Yan Bo was prepared, taking a jar from his own bag and handing it to the waitress.
After a while, the waitress brought over a pot of tea, and Yan Bo poured a cup for Tong Xiaohua himself, "Drink some of this, it can help with digestion."
Tong Xiaohua took a sip, finding the sour and sweet taste quite pleasant.
"What is this? It’s really good."
"Hawthorn tea, for stimulating appetite and aiding digestion."
After saying this, Yan Bo lifted the jar and placed it in front of her.
"Take this home or just keep it in the car. If you overeat or have indigestion, you can make some to drink."
Tong Xiaohua had grown accustomed to his thoughtfulness and attentiveness, she took the jar, unscrewed the lid, and sniffed it, the sharp scent of sourness making her wrinkle her brows involuntarily.
"It’s quite sour!"
"Yes, you can add some honey to it, according to your taste, to balance out the sourness."
Tong Xiaohua acknowledged with an "Oh", screwed the lid back on, and then placed the jar in her large bag.
"Thanks, ha!"
Yan Bo looked at her, "What are you being polite with me for!"
Tong Xiaohua stuck out her tongue at him, making a silly face.
Yan Bo stared at her as if looking at a monster, and after a long while, he "cough cough" coughed twice and turned his face away, taking a large sip from his cup of tea.
Tong Xiaohua noticed that Yan Bo was not always composed and mature; occasionally, he would have the shyness and restraint that a twenty-year-old young man should have.
However, compared to his peers, these traits did appear much less frequently in him.
Yan Bo had drunk most of his tea and finally regained his composure, pulled out paper and a pen, and started explaining difficult questions to her. Halfway through, Tong Xiaohua got up to take a phone call, and when she came back, she looked a bit serious.
Yan Bo glanced at her cautiously, "Is something wrong?"
Tong Xiaohua shook her head, but afterward, she seemed somewhat distracted.
Yan Bo deliberately slowed down the pace a lot, and he repeated several points over and over again, yet she still looked bewildered.
Clearly, her mind was no longer on studying.
"Xiao Hua, do you have work to do?"
Tong Xiaohua paused for a moment, then nodded honestly.
"Yes, I have to go check out the KTV in North City in a bit. Uncle Ming is waiting for me there."
