Chapter 719: Chapter 719: Where to Put the Old Face? (Third Update)
If both Mr. Yan and Zhu Qianying, like their baby boy, have forgotten about the incident of their child going missing for a day and a night, then they have actually had quite a good few days.
Every night, the family of three slept under the same quilt. No one knew who was coaxing whom, but for the past two nights, their son has been babbling about something until he couldn’t keep his eyes open from yawning and fell asleep. Then Mr. Yan and Zhu Qianying, in order not to disturb him, simply lay quietly beside him waiting for sleep to come.
The third night was just the same.
son has been chatting about playing with Bai Xiaolu, and before long, he falls asleep.
In the darkness, their son’s even breathing when he sleeps soundly seems particularly pleasing.
In the silence, Mr. Yan reaches out and holds Zhu Qianying’s hand that is resting on their son, without saying a word.
Zhu Qianying curls up her fingers slightly, wrapping them around his slender fingers.
Both of them are just there, playing with each other’s fingers. At first, it was probably out of boredom, just something to do. But eventually, they fell asleep intertwined with each other’s fingers.
Mr. Yan has stopped his morning runs for several days. On this day, his biological clock is still on strike. When he wakes up and glances at the clock on the wall, it’s exactly eight o’clock.
That’s two full hours past his usual wake-up time.
Seeing that it’s already this late, Mr. Yan doesn’t rush to get up. He moves his hand and feels a pull. He looks down and realizes that his hand and Zhu Qianying’s hand have been intertwined since last night.
He tries to move, but finds Zhu Qianying’s fingers are wrapped tightly. Unless he forcefully pulls his hand out or pried her fingers apart one by one, he can’t free his hand.
Both methods would undoubtedly wake her up.
After a bit of a struggle, Mr. Yan ultimately didn’t bear to wake her up, so he places his other hand under his head and lies there waiting for his wife and son to wake up.
This kind of waking up but lying in bed doing nothing is something Mr. Yan, having grown up privileged, hasn’t really experienced before. However, he finds it’s nice to just occasionally space out and empty his mind.
When Zhu Qianying wakes up, she first tries to move their entwined hands, but finding she can’t, she opens her eyes to see what’s happening.
As she opens her eyes, she finds her hand being grabbed entirely by Mr. Yan and kissed at his soft lips.
"Wife, you awake?"
Zhu Qianying raises her other hand to rub her eyes, speaking drowsily, "Have you been awake for a long time?"
Mr. Yan looks at the time, "Not really..."
As a matter of fact, it’s already half past nine, which means he’s been simply lying there for an hour and a half.
But Zhu Qianying doesn’t realize this. Before they were married, she loved sleeping in and loathed to get up in the morning.
Now though, she’s concerned about making breakfast for her precious son and Mr. Yan. Even though she’s still somewhat drowsy, she gathers strength to get out of bed.
Mr. Yan glances at their son who’s still sleeping soundly, and pulls her back into bed with one arm.
"Lie down for a bit longer..."
"But breakfast..." Zhu Qianying is still concerned about this.
"We can have tea at the tea house later!"
"With baby boy..." Zhu Qianying’s words are quickly cut off by Mr. Yan, "The doctor said that as long as it’s not deep fried or too greasy, he can eat it. He also said that the little one is recovering faster than he expected."
While the little boy’s body is recovering fast, his psychological state still hides a time bomb.
However, Zhu Qianying and Mr. Yan try their best to remain optimistic and composed.
Since Mr. Yan said so, Zhu Qianying lies back down peacefully.
This is the first time since they’ve been together that they’ve lazed around doing nothing, saying nothing, lying in bed with their arms under their heads, spacing out.
After a while, Mr. Yan reaches out to touch her face, "Baby, come here."
Zhu Qianying fixes her gaze on him, hesitates for a moment, then carefully stands up, crosses over their son, and goes to his side.
Mr. Yan looks up at her. After a good night’s sleep, his facial features were all shining brightly.
He winks at her with his gleaming black eyes. Patting his belly with his big hand, he signals for her to sit down.
Zhu Qianying instinctively checks on their son. Mr. Yan catches her wrist, with a light pull, she falls onto his stomach unexpectedly.
"Our son is here..." Zhu Qianying’s gaze sweeps over their son.
Now that their son is five years old, he has some understanding of many things. She doesn’t want him to wake up and see inappropriate scenes.
Mr. Yan pinches her chin and pecks at her lips.
"Baby, where’s your mind at?"
Mr. Yan, with a teasing smile on his face, reaches his hand under her arms, lifting her effortlessly with both hands, then sets her down.
Thus, Zhu Qianying sits on his belly with her legs on either side of his body, facing him.
"Still want to sleep?"
Mr. Yan’s eyes are full of smiles, he puts his hand around her neck, and forcefully presses her against his chest.
Zhu Qianying secretly rolls her eyes but doesn’t dare to say anything. She doesn’t want to wake up their son, and she’d be embarrassed if he woke up and saw her like this.
"Alright, let’s close our eyes for a bit. When our son wakes up, I’ll wake you." Mr. Yan gently massages the back of her neck as if she’s a proud and lazy cat.
Zhu Qianying, in fact, enjoys his touch on her neck, so she closes her eyes slightly, pressing her face comfortably against his chest.
Mr. Yan’s heartbeat is steady and strong, thumping in her ears. The sound representing vitality inexplicably reassures Zhu Qianying.
"Once you sort out your studio, let’s go and relax somewhere."
Mr. Yan only mentions the studio, but Zhu Qianying understands that he’s also indirectly referring to their son’s situation.
"Alright..."
Zhu Qianying isn’t bothered by it, as long as she’s with her son and him.
In the past, she loved taking her son to places that were full of excitement.
But now, she suddenly feels like finding a quiet place where the three of them could hang hammocks under the tree shade, listen to the insects and cicadas, and lazily snooze away the afternoon in the breeze.
"Let’s find someplace quiet..."
A place quiet enough to be away from the hustle and bustle, where no one and nothing could disturb their family-of-three’s happiness and peace.
"Okay..." Mr. Yan gently strokes her hair.
They’ve been together for so long and yet she still occasionally surprises him.
He doesn’t know what other women’s pursuit and definition of life are, but he is sure that the hubbub and crowding most women yearn for, she doesn’t like.
It’s only at this moment that he recalls, that in all the time they’ve been together, she has never once mentioned accompanying him to parties and such as Mrs. Yan.
