Chapter 694: Chapter 694: It’s Also for Myself

After being unjustly blamed multiple times, the elevator finally delivered the six people of different ages to their destination. Zhu Qianying and Yan Han held their little boy, each to one side, and looked ahead at Chen Jing and Luo Yifan walking side by side. At this moment, she felt like she was just like her baby boy, a child.

Perhaps to the elders who they would be meeting with shortly, she really was still a child.

Perhaps because of their previous encounter, once everyone stood by the door, Chen Jing nudged Luo Yifan forward, signaling for him to ring the doorbell.

Luo Yifan did not refuse nor object, he extended his hand to ring the doorbell smoothly.

A few seconds later, a middle-aged man in his fifties opened the door from the inside.

Without a doubt, this was her own uncle.

As the metal door opened, Zhu Qianying heard her mother call out, "Brother!" Luo Yifan, however, addressed him as Mr. Chen.

It was understandable. After all, he and her mother were just boyfriend and girlfriend now. Mimicking her mother’s form of address would be too presumptuous.

"Uncle, I am Ying’er. This is my son, baby boy, and this is my husband Yan Han."

Zhu Qianying introduced herself, her son, and her husband to this middle-aged man who shared some resemblance with her mother. Inside, she felt a bit of excitement.

The anticipation of being on intimate terms with relatives was finally met with a concrete response.

"Ah, nice to meet you! Please, come in and sit!"

Her uncle seemed like a honest man. His smiling face seemed a little stiff when facing them. However, one could discern that it was just a bit of awkwardness; beneath that, his warmth came through.

Now Quianying believe her mother’s initial judgement.

It wasn’t that the uncle didn’t want to acknowledge her mother as his sister, but that he was too proud to admit it.

"Brother, where is my sister-in-law!"

After coming in once yesterday, Chen Jing was clearly no longer so nervous.

"She’s in the kitchen!"

Chen Jing and Luo Yifan had originally planned to go out to eat. But considering the two old people’s difficulties in moving, they finally decided to eat at home.

Chen Jing introduced Zhu Qianying and the child to the sister-in-law in the kitchen, before leading them to knock on a room door.

Zhu Qianying wondered, this must be her grandparents’ room.

"Come in..." An elderly voice, accompanied by a cough, came out from inside.

As Chen Jing pushed open the door, Zhu Qianying finally saw the two elders she was curious and eager to see.

"Grandma, Grandpa!"

Zhu Qianying walked to the front of the two elderly people in wheelchairs, and called out affectionately.

The two elders slightly lifted their heads and with their trembling hands, grabbed hers. "Are you Ying’er?"

Zhu Qianying nodded and beckoned to baby boy to come over.

Her son dutifully trotted over, and with a smiling face greeted the two elders. "Great-grandpa, Great-grandma! I am baby boy, I am my mommy’s son!"

Baby boy’s introduction, which was so very childlike, made Zhu Qianying burst into laughter.

Chen Jing also laughed out loud. Only the old couple, their eyes red, pulled him closer, carefully examing his features.

After having their fill looking at the baby boy, the grandmother suddenly remembered something and asked Qianjing, "Where is Xiao Yu...."

It seems that over the years, whereas they appeared indifferent towards Chen Jing, they were fully aware of the existence of their great granddaughters, Zhu Qianying and Zhu Qianyu.

Zhu Qianying had only been in the house for about 15 minutes, when she was sure that both her grandparents and her uncle did actually worry about her mother despite everything.

An earlier rift formed between their family because of Zhu Zhizhou, was gradually getting mended once Luo Yifan came into the picture.

No one mentioned the past at the dinner table. Instead, the grandparents asked Luo Yifan when he plans to marry their granddaughter.

Clearly, they were more concerned about their daughter’s happiness in the future.

"Uncle, Aunt, after Jing and I participate in the Food Exhibition, we’ll start planning everything."

He obviously didn’t want to disappoint the old couple. So, he concealed the fact that he hadn’t even proposed yet.

Only then did Zhu Qianying know, that Luo Yifan had openly talked about her mother participating in the Food Exhibition.

"Yes, that’s a good idea. Jing, you need to perform well this time. You were a Golden Award winner, don’t bury your talent because of unrelated people or things."

Watching her mother nodding her head vigorously, Zhu Qianying understood that when her grandparents decided to cut off contact with her mother, they were only acting out of tough love.

Now that her grandfather was mentioning those past events again, it was to remind her mother not to let her relationship with Luo Yifan interfere with the competition.

Luo Yifan clearly understood the hint, and immediately reassured them. "Uncle, you can rest assured. Jing has been in excellent condition recently, and we are confident she will get a good result."

Thus, in the first half of the dinner, the grandfather admonished her mother while they ate. In the latter half, the atmosphere became more relaxed when the conversation shifted towards Baby Boy and their yet unborn grandson.

It was apparent that Aunt and Uncle were similar type of people, honest with a touch of stiffness.

Zhu Qianying’s cousin was nearly 30 years old and still unwilling to get married. His parents had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of a grandchild, so when they saw the baby boy, they couldn’t help but adore him.

As for the oldest couple, they were also very fond of their sweet great-grandson, who seemed to have honey-sweet words at the tip of his tongue. The child became the focus during dinner, and bursts of laughter filled the dining room from time to time.

After dinner, the elderly couple who were usually prone to go to bed early, continued to sit in the living room in their wheelchairs, chatting with everyone. Though they were too old to participate in the conversation most of the time, they entertained themselves by playing with the baby boy. Occasionally, they would look up at their own children and grandchildren, creating a peaceful and joyous atmosphere in the living room.

This family dinner had far exceeded Chen Jing’s expectations.

So on the ride home, she was a bit excited. It was hard to say whether it was because of the wine, or the happiness in her heart, or both.

"Luo, thank you. Thanks to you for being so persistent yesterday, otherwise, I don’t know how long it would have taken for me to break the deadlock with my parents."

In Chen Jing’s eyes, Luo Yifan was someone who cared a lot about his image. That he acted so shamelessly and waited outside the door with her was solely for her sake.

Luo Yifan glanced at Zhu Qianying and the baby boy, then turned his gaze back and smiled.

"No need to thank me. I did it for myself too."

Zhu Qianying felt that the atmosphere in the car was incredibly subtle, and it seemed as if there were intermittent sparks lighting up in the air.

She regretted not asking the driver to bring two cars. That way, she, her son, and Yan Han wouldn’t have to turn into a proverbial third wheel, flashing in the dim light of the car like a lone bulb.
